Hi Doug

Are you able to use any non-authenticating ArcGIS servers/WMS/XYZ tiles etc. on
QGIS?

Hi Doug

Can you send through to me the AGOL server link? I know that in ArcMap/ArcPro
it is slightly different to connect to than QGIS, usually. As you mentioned it
is OpenID, I assume there are no credentials required.

fortunately, the OSGeo4W setup gui does get me info on specific libraries as

The gdalinfo binary has a –build flag

C:\OSGeo4W\bin>gdalinfo.exe --build

PAM_ENABLED=YES

OGR_ENABLED=YES

CURL_ENABLED=YES

CURL_VERSION=8.1.2

GEOS_ENABLED=YES

GEOS_VERSION=3.12.0-CAPI-1.18.0

PROJ_BUILD_VERSION=9.2.1

PROJ_RUNTIME_VERSION=9.2.1

You should be able to find this in your QGIS installation as well somewhere …

That covers GDAL, but not the components that GDAL was compiled with. I did

Re: [Qgis-user] [pyqgis] looping through a raster (andrea antonello)

2023-05-05 Per discussione Newcomb, Doug via QGIS-User
Andrea,
Why not call GRASS r.series through the python interface, average the stack of
rasters there, then select the point value from the result. It's a bit brute
force, but when I have used r.series directly in GRASS with hundreds of large
rasters at a time, there was fairly low memory usage.

[Qgis-user] Embedding and referencing geotagged photos inside a geopackage

2020-09-29 Per discussione Newcomb, Doug
Hi folks,
I know it's possible to create a point layer form geotagged images in QGIS.
What I am wondering about is if it is possible for those geotagged imaged to be
embedded in a geopackage with the vector data set so that the points and photo
that illustrate the location can be stored ( and moved) in a single file. An
extension to this would be to have multiple photos of the same location over
time.

Thanks for any insights!

I have a virtual instance of Ubuntu 20.04 installed on my home computer and
have successfully installed 3.10.4 from the standard Ubuntu 20.04 repositories.
I suspect that you have different libraries and versions of QGIS left over
from your 18.04 installation and it may be complicated by the possibility that
you may have used the UBUNTU GIS PPA to install your previous version.Hard
for me to tell without more detail.

I would suggest that you use aptitude search to find all instances of gdal,
grass, proj, and qgis that you may find and remove them with apt. Then start
with a simple qgis installation using apt.

You can also make a virtual instance of 20.04 ( using KVM) and install qgis
there. I nfs mapped my base systems drives to the virtual instance to access
my data on the base system.

[Qgis-user] SVG files in QGIS print layout

2020-02-13 Per discussione Newcomb, Doug
Hi Folks,
I recently made up a poster using QGIS 3.10.2 and ran across a few issues with
SVG files when using add image.

1) I use Inkscape 0.92.4 on windows to create customized North Arrows. When
adding a large text N to the SVG file, it will not appear until I convert the
text to a path using object to path.

2) Exporting a graph from R to an svg file using:
svg(file="graph_filename.svg", width=7, height=7).
When using add image to the print layout, none of the text associated with the
graph is visible. Loading the svg file in Inkscape , the text shows up fine,
but the convert text to a path method does not work on these files.

Before I dive into this further, is this known behavior that is being worked
on? Do folks have an easy fix?

Yes, I could use png files, but vector graphics look better 

Hi Folks,
I reopened the project today and the Add North Arrow option was back. Either I
was very tired yesterday, or I needed to restart QGIS. I'm betting on the
former. Sorry for the noise.

Hi Folks,
I noticed that between 3.10.1 and 3.10.2 the Add North Arrow item was removed
from the Print Layout menu, reverting back to the 3.4.x behavior of Add Image
and then sync to map for the image. Will this be permanent?

Andrea,

Thank you. Double checking the minimum distance got me on the right track.

One thing to note. I used the buffer layer to clip a soil polygon
layer that was multipart. The clipped layer needed to be converted to
single part to place a single point in each polygon derived from the
buffered layer clip.

Are there any plans to make the number of tries to be a user
accessible variable in the GUI?

[Qgis-user] qgis random points in layer bounds not all points created

2020-01-09 Per discussione Newcomb, Doug
Using 3.10.1-A Coruña.
I have 81 points that I buffer by 25m. I then run the random points in
layer bounds tool to generate 100 points. I get 43 and a message that not
all points were created.
I ask for 300 points, and I get 160 .

Kind of wondering why I don't get all the points requested.

[Qgis-user] Record the cracks in our (private) streets

2019-12-13 Per discussione Doug
I have imported a set of drone pictures to QGIS. They show the streets
in my subdivision. I want to "record" the cracks in the pavement to be
able to compare them over time. I want to be able to segment the
streets in arbitrary lengths. For each segment, I want to "draw" the
cracks (in layers) to record where they are. Every year or two I will
repeat the process. The purpose is to be able to compare the set of
cracks in successive snapshots to see how the asphalt is holding up
and identify underlying problems. I would love to have some software
to find the cracks for me and generate the crack layer, if anyone
knows of such software.

First problem: I can trace the outline of the streets to generate a
layer which represents to road surface. Is there a way to slice that
layer by picking two points to "slice" the layer and then have two
layers? And then repeat the process so that I get the segments that I
want? Alternatively, is there a way to create a segment and "snap" to
next segment so there is not overlap or missing space?

Second problem. Given that I have a layer representing a segment of
the road surface, can I "draw" the cracks for that segment such that
every line in the cracks layer is related (as in SQL) to the segment
it reside in?

Once I have the road surface segments, and the associated cracks, I
can then use SQL to generate all sorts of reports on the cracks:
average and median length, number of horizontal and vertical cracks,
total crack length per road surface segment (or square feet), etc.

Thanks.

Doug

[Qgis-user] Edit raster (DEM) values with polygon

2019-03-26 Per discussione Doug Johnston
Hello all.

I am attempting to edit (change) the values for all pixels in a DEM in
region of the DEM.

The real-world problem is I want to burn in a proposed flood wall/dike into
an existing DEM.

I have a polygon with the desired elevation field, and I also have a raster
with the desired elevation values (rasterized from the polygon).

I have looked at rasterize tool, however cannot find the correct way burn
the overlying polygon into the dem (referencing an attribute field), or if
it is even possible.

I would also think raster calculator would do it with the two rasters, but
I do not have the syntax down:

pseudo-code: if dike-dem is_not "no_data" |> use dike-dem; else use
original-DEM.

Here is a screen shot of the two rasters.

All help is appreciated; thanks in advance.

[Qgis-user] Re: Re: QGIS 1.5 Update for ECW/SID support crashes

2010-10-18 Per discussione Doug Lane

Fellow users, I am stuck using MrSid from both my local government and my
state. I am slightly unclear how much that is affected with ECW, but I am
under the impression that they are tied together. So If We migrate to a new
version of GDAL that does not support this, I will be relegated to an older
version of QGIS, and will have a harder time trying to spread the word, since
many people who are interested are also learning the leading commercial stuff
and would want some of your newest additions to code, and would not be as
inclined to join lists and do much research to see how to support MrSid (or if
it has been reinstated to a dependancy and thus supported by default).

just my 2 cents.

doug

Thank you all for your hard work on code, manuals, and spreading to word. This
is truly a great program and seems to be gaining momentum, that I don't think
anyone would want to see be lost.

[Qgis-user] MRsid/ ECW

2010-08-03 Per discussione Doug Lane

I am reposting this from the forums since I haven't gotten anything yet, and am
still not sure what I have done wrong

Ok so I have attempted to follow the directions in the release for the
ecw/mrsid install of Qgis 1.5.

I
deleted all previous installs and the .qgis folder.I have installed
1.5. Now I have run into the problem of not being able to get the
codec. I registered, and have refreshed, but version 3.3 is no longer
available, and I am not sure if 4.1 is released yet, I am not getting
any download option I can download everything else on the site

Hopefully I am missing something simple, all of the local imagery is MRsid, so
this is a big component for me...
and Yes I did add the two gdal files on osgeow installer...

I am running winXP and using osgeo to install.
