[Qgis-user] GoogleLayers plugin not working?

2012-04-05 Thread Zoran Janković
Hi guys,

WinXP, Qgis 1.7.4 from Osgeo installer, new installation on 2 different PCs
(clean registry, no .qgis directory etc.). I get the Python error on
startup, as well as when I try to run GoogleLayers plugin:

OpenLayers plugin, same PC, crashes QGIS completely...

The same thing happens when using latest QGIS master 1.9.90.

What am I missing?

freezes: no errors, no response, no nothing. Worked fine in previous

[Qgis-user] Qgis crashes on Windows 7 when loading whichever Openlayers plugin's layer

2012-04-05 Thread G. Allegri
Hi all,
unfortunatley I'm working on an official Qgis release from osgeo4w, so I
cannot debut it in this moment.
The problem happens both on Qgis 1.7.4 and the qgid-dev version.
Qgis crashes when I try to load whichever type of layer (OSM, Google, etc.).
It happeans with any projection set, and with or without OTFR

I've seen various emails, both on this list and qgis-developer's, about OL
plugin issues but they don't seem to relate to this one.
Has anyone faced it before? Have I missed bug tickets already sent?

[Qgis-user] WFS client silently ignores values for fields with scandinavian characters

2012-04-05 Thread Ari Jolma

Hello,

It seems to me that the WFS client silently ignores field values (at
least) for those fields whose names have scandinavian characters (å, ä,
and ö). The fields are shown in attribute table but the values are
missing. The data is there, I confirmed with making the GetFeatures

I'm using 1.7.3. on Ubuntu.

Hallo,

the data is in lat/lon and WGS84 datum as stated on the download page
http://gadm.org/country

if you use this projection for the project you get the compressed
appearance
In order to get an appearance similar to DEU_adm.png you might e.g. use
UTM-WGS84 projection (in this case use EPSG:32632).

tick on-the-fly-projection in project properties.

The 1st would give a shape to the variable, the 2nde would apply a color

Say to me if my (request) is not clear.

I wouldn't oppose setting up a QGIS QA. I think I said so before.
It wouldn't fix the problem of our community being spread over many places,
but at least I'd hope that it would be easier to find answers to previously
asked questions.
On the other hand, I'm uncertain how many users would be too shy to use
stackexchange but fine to use a QGIS QA. Judging from my experience on
stackexchange, there are a lot of beginners questions coming in all the
time.
The phrase in FAQ about welcoming people who use GIS professionally has
also been changed to remove professionally. It wasn't meant to be
interpreted in a way to discourage people who are new to GIS.

I'm not overly keen on creating our own QA site just yet unless we can
start to see problems with gis.stackexchange.com. I like
gis.stackexchange.com because

   1. It's already well know
   2. Has a good range of questions already
   3. Access to professionals in other areas (QGIS + PostGIS)
   4. Move coverage for QGIS on the Internet.
   5. A growing user base

Starting our own would mean reinventing the wheel for all of the above,
plus dealing with spam, moderating etc.

Re: [Qgis-user] Re: Closure of forum

2012-04-05 Thread Lee
As a once new user, I found google regularly returned useful results from
both the mailing list and stack exchange. I have never joined the forums.
As long as the website remains clear on how these resources can be
accessed, I imagine the bases are relatively covered. As said above, we can
always wait and see if noticeable problems occur, before adding yet another
spread-out resource.

In general, I agree with the discussion carried on throughout, that some
degree of centralized information needs to occur. While manuals are great,
they can also be inaccessible. I am an advocate of a centralized hub of
past questions and answers and tips that improve accessibility to newcomers.

I wouldn't oppose setting up a QGIS QA. I think I said so before.
It wouldn't fix the problem of our community being spread over many
places, but at least I'd hope that it would be easier to find answers to
 previously asked questions.

[Qgis-user] about some ellipsoïdal distances

2012-04-05 Thread blavet

Dear QGis Developpers and Users

First of all many thanks to the Developpers of Qgis for this wonderful
and user friendly Sofwaret. I'm sure that Qgis will become more and
more a "standard" in the next few years

So, just a small point (and I hope to be wrong with this, but if it
is the case i don't see where) : as i needed to find quite exactly some
ellipsodal distances, I'm afraid to have also found that in some
cases theellipsodal distance could have some problem in QGIS 1.7.4
(tested versions Windows and Debian). This could depend on the
algorithm used and the geographical position of the points.

The following table suggests for few studied points that the
ellipsodal distances computed in Qgis 1.7.4 was overestimated and
quite different than ellipsodal distances computed with the help of
two geodesic estimations
