You know the plugin for that?
http://www.bc-consult.com/free/bcccoltbl1.html
You have to enable experimental plugins and add the repository
http://www.bc-consult.com/free/plugins.xml
manually.

Please be aware that the plugin does not work with 'QGIS Dev' (1.9.x).
It is fine to use up to QGIS 1.8 (current stable version) and will be
superseded by Etienne's work from QGIS 1.9.

[Qgis-user] problems making grass training map via qgis

2012-08-15 Thread Samantha Goodchild-Brown
Can anyone tell me how to make a training map for supervised
classification using QGIS Grass (1.8).

I have successfully made the polygons with label attributes (as a grass
vector layer - attribute table now looks the same as the sample datasets
from installation) but these attributes are lost when converting to
raster. Hence my raster comes out as one cell (one value to region extents).

If I use Grass GUI (6.4.2) to convert a vector polygon to a raster,
georeferencing gets lost.

Are these known bugs? can someone give me a workaround? Or fix my

[Qgis-user] Accessing an Oracle database, natively or through ArcSDE

2012-08-15 Thread Jonathan Moules
Hi List,
I'm investigating QGIS as a possible suplement to our corporate systems
(ArcGIS/MapInfo). We store all of our vector data in an Oracle Locator
database and can either connect to it directly or through ArcSDE.
Unfortunately it doesn't seem that QGIS is able to natively connect to
either of these.

I've done some brief searching, but most of the results point to
qgis.orgwhich isn't responding for me currently. What I can find
suggests that most
things want to go either either OGR or GDAL as an intermediary layer, but
I'm concerned these will greatly slow down data loading (some of our layers
are very big, including Ordnance Survey MasterMap).

So my question is simple - what would be the optimal way for QGIS to read
this data (we're not interested in writing)?

Thanks,
Jonathan

Re: [Qgis-user] Checkbox missing in WFS Client

Hi Katharina

From 1.8 on, there is a checkbox 'check features' in the WFS dialog. If
you zoom to the desired view and uncheck the box, the WFS only downloads
the view extent (plus it reloads the required features if you zoom out
of that extent).
If you don't want the WFS client to reload when zooming out of the

column in the dialog and enter the filter xml in quotes.

Re: [Qgis-user] random locations sample from the actual map

2012-08-15 Thread richard burcher
Hi Chathura,

For vector data try the fTools. Look under Vector -- Research Tools, there
are several ie Random Selection & Random Selection within subsets. This
would do for selecting already present polygon/point type features & export
selected layer from table of contents as a new layer.

To select only a range of coordinates (point based data) you can add the x &
y columns to attribute table. select layer for edit, add column of type real
(remember to set precision to > 2) & from Geometry group in Function list
window select $x or $y. Save & stop editing, you may notice that the columns
go null -- this is a bug (i'm using 1.8 windows 7), close & reopen attribute
table. You can now use the query builder to filter out a range of values,
export selection & apply the fTools discussed above.

For more advanced options I would look at the mangeR plugin.

Plugins of interest:
Point Sampling tool
Spatial Data Analysis for point pattern -- very extensive functionality

Cheers,

Richard

Context menu provides option for transparency for that symbol.

I don't know why the color table issue comes up, but it shouldn't

Do You know that You can use 'gdalbuildvrt' command to create virtual
raster layer containing all your raster files and load it as one layer.
Than files matching your viewport will be automatically loaded by

Ah, confirmation! I was thinking to go to linux - any comments on which
is the better to use?
include a parameter "labelcol=" to give the resulting raster
categories a text label in addition to the numeric cat value.

Also be sure to run g.region vect= before
converting.

This is new, thanks. This could be a missing link.

If I use Grass GUI (6.4.2) to convert a vector polygon to a raster,
georeferencing gets lost.

That should certainly not be happening. What do you get from v.info on
the input vector, and r.info on that output raster?
In the process (with this interface) it does complain about a colours
column that it needs extra - have tried a few different methods there.
Indicates it made it sucessfully but 'couldn't resolve the colour table
issue' (with everything I have tried) - then when you zoom to that layer
you are at the CM's and of course - no colours. But I didn't know about
g.region.vect.
Are these known bugs? can someone give me a workaround? Or fix my
methodology if I am making common dingbat errors.

Thanks
Sam

Hi.
You can use the full GRASS CLI also within QGIS.
If you need additional options, please open a ticket on QGIS trac, or
better make a patch yourself (it is simple), and I'll apply it.
Thanks.

[Qgis-user] sobre vector resumen

2012-08-15 Thread Eduardo Arévalo
Buenas Tardes tengo una consulta creo que es un poco compleja y espero que
me deje entender:

Hay alguna forma de ejecutar el siguiente análisis con las herramientas que
se dispone el qgis 1.8?

1) Tengo 12 vectores (1 por mes) de las areas sembradas por regiones.

mes 1
| región | área sembrada1 |

mes 2
| región | área sembrada2|

..
..
..

2) Como puedo obtener un vector resumen

mes1 + mes2= mes total

Mes total

| región | area sembrada total |

gracias
espero que se entienda

Or use OTB, also through sextante.

Hi Paolo,

Could you please elaborate on accessing the grass cli through qgis?

I only see the grass plugin shell command prompt which doesn't seem to work?
(gives dos prompt without access to grass plugin modules).

setup:
qgis 1.8
win 7

Cheers,

Richard

FWIW Gdalbuildvrt is also available in the QGIS menu under Raster>Miscellaneous
But there are cases where using an action to load a raster from a tileindex is
preferable...

Hi Richard,
the shell you mention is a full GRASS shell, so you can run any GRASS
command from there.
Please let me know if you encounter problems on it.

Re: [Qgis-user] Vector/Raster Projection Problem

2012-08-15 Thread Terry Morse
Thank you for the suggestion, Andre.

I tried to install Openlayers using the plug-in installer, but it appears not
to be in the official
plug-in repository. The closest I came was OGR2Layers, which exports OGR
layers to
OpenLayers html. I also tried googling it, but didn't locate a download
source. Any
suggestions on how I can find and install it?

Thanks,
Terry
