Well known issue, downgrade back to previous version you had working if
you need GRASS layers working in QGIS or the QGIS+GRASS Plugin.

Expect QGIS 2.12 to likely work with GRASS 7.
http://www.gissula.eu/qgis-grass-plugin-crowdfunding/

Longer answer the QGIS+GRASS plugin is being rewritten to support GRASS
7 which is fairly new. 2.10 is somewhere in no mans land where it
doesn't work with either 6 or 7 for the plugin (The grass functions in
the toolbox are related only indirectly, so those working combos differ).

Alex

Thanks Enrique, it is there either something with Debian Jessie or with my

mentioning that the same problem occurs with trying to move groups or

[Qgis-user] QGIS 2.10 + GRASS - changes in behaviour?

2015-08-11 Thread Carlos Grohmann
Hi all,

After upgrading to 2.10 (running kyngschaos pkgs on OS X), I noticed that
the "add grass raster layer" and "add grass vector layer" button from the
GRASS plugin are gone. Is this a bug or there were changes in 2.10 related
to GRASS layers?

Suddenly I can't even visualize my GRASS layers anymore..

[Qgis-user] Conversion from World to Geo coordinates

2015-08-11 Thread Tudorache, Marian
Hi everyone,

I currently have some GIS data using the world format x and y where those were
obtained by approximate the Earth with a modified GRS80 datum where the
Semi-major axis = Semi-minor axis = 6381711.641389.
I would like to know if there is a plugin in QGIS which can convert
automatically back to lat and long of any standard or custom datum.

Thank you,
Marian

I have added that line back and it should be fine now.

Thanks for taking care,

by the way: by copying the gdal algorithms from processing 2.10.1 to
the
2.9.3 folder (.qgis2/python/plugins/processing/algs/gdal), I gained
access

to the new GDAL dissolve polygons :)

Unfortunately, the model from before (GRASS6) didn't work anymore, and
all
attempts to adjust it via diff of a test model failed. So reworking my
model
(for the 10th time or so) in Ubuntu 2.8.3 from ubuntugis-ltr with
working

GRASS7, SAGA and everything and a partially upgraded Processing 2.9.3

I'm on my way ... finally .. hopefully ...

Gave Windows another try: Removed everything, and installed the
simple

QGIS 2.10.1 with Processing 2.10.1 and GRASS 6 working.

switched back to Ubuntu, cause of a bug in the modeler version of
GDAL

Dissolve Polygons (which is crucial for me).
https://hub.qgis.org/issues/13174

Ubuntu: Now that I installed 2.8 with the debian repository only (so
without ubuntis depencies), my GRASS 6 works (sorted out another
error,

that GRASS takes a column name "OR" from shape as an sql-command or
sth), update to Processing 2.10.1 worked as well.

The drawback, no SAGA, which might come handy cause the now available
algos do not really do what I expect ;)

I think the problem is within Processing in combination with the
packaging:
When e.g. I install QGIS 2.8 with ubuntugis-ltr dependencies (where
nobody on the install page claims I shouldn't do), GRASS7 and the
modeler are working, but Processing version is 2.6. Updating
Processing

to current Processing 2.10.1 (as recommended) seems to work.
(Besides that v.clean in the modeler only returns a polygon layer
from

an polygon input, if I also set an output name for the error layer,
otherwise I get an empty line shape)

But: The next time I run QGIS and want to run an GRASS algo: Missing
depencies

I can now replace Processing 2.10.1 with the second latest 2.9.3 from
https://plugins.qgis.org/plugins/processing/version/2.9.3/
and there v.clean does what it should in Processing AND modeler.

But: Now I do not have GDAL Dissolve polygons which is in Processing
2.10.1. Well, I could switch back to Windows QGIS 2.10, but, grr,
there

is the bug in this algo ...

You see, I'm trapped.

Thanx for you attention
Bernd

Both are Ubuntu 14.04 based.

I'm not sure if this is a bug in Processing, or in packaging. I
recall
in OSGeoLive 8.5 that we had custom packages with a patch. Note,
you can

get those versions for your Ubuntu system from
https://launchpad.net/~osgeolive/+archive/ubuntu/release-8.5

We freeze a copy of the working versions in our own ppa for long
term

history.

2015-08-11 Thread Brent Wood
Hi Stephen,
What sort of database?

While QGIS can talk to several popular spatially enabled databases directly
(MySQL, PostGIS, SQL Server, Oracle, etc - sometimes with a bit of work) and to
non-spatial databases with virtual data sources, it may be simpler in your case
to export the data as CSV and open it as delimited text in QGIS.
You will need to specify the field delimiter character, & the columns to use
for X & Y coordinates, & the CRS (EPSG:4326 if lat/long decimal degrees), then
QGIS will plot your data fine. If you still want to create a shapefile, use
QGIS to save the layer as a shapefile.

Re: [Qgis-user] vector files time manager

2015-08-11 Thread Alexandre Neto
Hello Pablo,

I think you can use atlas to do what you want.

I would do the following:
- Create a coverage layer (a simple non spatial table) with all desired
dates (you can simply make and import a CSV), it should have a year_field
column;
- Create a map with the desired extention, and use the already created
layer as atlas coverage;
- In the map canvas, style your universities layer with a rule-based
symbology, and set an unique rule with:
   "YEAR" >=  attribute(  $atlasfeature , 'year_field') AND "YEAR" >=
(attribute( $atlasfeature , 'year_field') + 5)

I think you can then export your atlas for each 5 year to PDF or SVG

Hope it helps

[Qgis-user] vector files time manager

2015-08-11 Thread Pablo Medina Lockhart

Dear all,

I have a problem with the (wonderful) extension Time Manager :
I have a georeferenced database of all European
universities with their creation date (eg Bologna
- 1088). I tried to use this extension to extract
a map of Europe every 5 years (from 1088) in a
vector format (ideally pdf) : I need this format
to be able to reprocess these maps.
Howewer this extension don't produce vector data
(I have already ask to Anita Graser, she doesn't have solution).

Do you have another solution to generate vector files automatically?

Thank you for your answer

Pablo

Re: [Qgis-user] moving features in multiple layers at once by mouse

2015-08-11 Thread Saber Razmjooei
Hi Richard,

In Mapinfo there is a similar functionality but not across multiple layers.
TAB file supports multi geometry so when you move a node in common between a
line and a polygon from the same layer for example, it moves both in one
go.

Both the one in MI and the one you mentioned are very useful functionalities
and good additions to the core digitising maybe.

Cheers,
Saber

Hi,

anybody aware of functionality to edit (selected) features in different
layers?

Usecase:
- having a polygon layer plus a point layer (every point = a testpoint IN a
polygon in the polygon layer)
- using the Multiple Layer Selection-plugin select a polygon + the
correspondig point (in 2 layers)
- when moving the polygon (just by edit tools, like moving it 50 meters to
east) it is needed that the point moves exactly the same distance and
direction

see this as a sort of spatial relation, those polygon+point should stay
together...

Idea's?

[Qgis-user] Cumulative count cut on rasters

2015-08-11 Thread Andrea Peri
Hi,
trying the rendering of a raster floating point using the cumulative count cut.
I see it is quite good if I set the values 2.0,100.0% (not 98%) and
use the accuracy at value "estimate".
Instead always with the same values for cumulative count cut, but
using the accuracy "actual".
The result is really poor. The image became totally black with only
few isles of grey.

This is a surprise for me because the accuracy "actual" take a long
time and the name seem to say more precision.

I like to know what is the strategy used for actual: estimate and the
strategy for accuracy: actual.

Many thx.

Glad you're making some progress. I must admit I didn't know about the
simplified/advanced views in the processing toolbox, it must have been by luck
that I got into the advanced bit!

Have you had any luck with v.transform.pointsfile? Below is an example of the
points text file that you'd need to feed it. The first 2 columns are the x,y of
your unreferenced drawing and the second 2 are the x,y of the correct location.
I used the coordinate capture plugin to get these points.

Hope this helps

P.S. It would be REALLY amazing if support could be added to the Georeferencer
for vector layers. It seems that just provides a really nice interface for
getting these same coordinate pairs.
I would have thought that it would be a simple thing to add vector support in
there (big words from someone with no idea how to do it!) and would be
massively useful for us at least.

Thanks Anita, that "hidden feature" was pointed out and it did the trick. As I
mentioned earlier, the option may not be a bad idea, it just needs to be put at
the top and made more obvious.

Hey Yourself,

Very interesting, this is what I get, bugger all:

So what accounts for the difference? Some installation quirk
no doubt. I did select GRASS as an installation option. In 2.8.3 it was
listed under plug-ins, but under 2.10.1 is no longer there. But it was
installed as a standalone.

Consistency does not seem to be a strong point here.

Re: [Qgis-user] Where can I get a shapefile made from a table of co-ordinates to map a bird monitoring project ?

2015-08-11 Thread Adrian Wooster
Stephen,

When you say "database", if you have a Postgres database with the
PostGIS extension then you can add a geometry column with something
like:
SELECT AddGeometryColumn('my_schema', 'my_table','the_geom',27700,'POINT',2);
UPDATE my_schema.my_table SET the_geom = ST_SetSRID(ST_Point(easting,
northing),27700);

Replace 27700 with your own projection - I'm in the UK and 27700 is
the UK's Ordnance Survey projection. Once you have the geometry
column, you can add it to QGIS by simply adding a PostGIS layer. (You
will also need a column of unique integers)

Otherwise, if you export your table to a CSV file, you can load it
directly into QGIS using the "Add delimited text layer" below the
"Layer/Add Layer" menu. When you click on it there are options to
specify the X and Y co-ordinate columns.

2015-08-11 Thread Stefan Kiefer
Hi Stephen,
you can import the textfile directly to QGis (layer-->add layer-->import
textfile). Afterwards you can save the layer as shapefile (layer-->save as)
(Shapefile is default).
The file should be like:

x,y
1,2
2,3
3,4

if you have other column names you have to set the correct column for
coordinates in the import dialog!

cheers
