[Qgis-user] Questions regarding the QgsProcessingAlgorithm class
Hi list - I have a couple of (probably dumb) questions on how to use the "QgsProcessingAlgorithm" class. * A have a lot parameter inputs placed in the "advanced" section af the processing input dialog. It's parameters that seldom has to be changed. How do I present the "Avanced" section /not/ unfolded? The default is to unfold this section and thus possibly confuse users by showing a lot of seldom changed parameters. * One of my input parameters is a "QgsProcessingParameterString" parameter that will contain a password. How can I obfuscate the parameter input, i.e showing '***' instead of the password ? -- Med venlig hilsen / Best regards Bo Victor Thomsen ___ QGIS-User mailing list QGIS-User@lists.osgeo.org List info: https://lists.osgeo.org/mailman/listinfo/qgis-user Unsubscribe: https://lists.osgeo.org/mailman/listinfo/qgis-user
Re: [Qgis-user] Flatgeobuf in google drive ?
Thanks for all the answers. I made a Google cloud bucket and uploaded my files to that. It is (surprisingly) stable and fast ! The only downside is that it takes a long time the first time you open the layer, because QGIS will read the entire layer to ascertain the number of objects. When you have a layer with ca. 6.000.000 objects it takes a looong time. But opening the project after that is snappy. I'm no expert on Google Drive but it looks like you're using the URL for the friendly "view this file" page, rather than the URL that contains the raw file content itself. You'll probably have to try to download the file and grab the download URL it gives you there and use that instead. [Qgis-user] Flatgeobuf in google drive ?
Hi list - I'm experimenting using the flatgeobuf file format with files placed on the web. My current test setup is a simple web site located at one.com. I uploaded the .fgb file to the site and let QGIS access it using the data manager: That worked as a charm ! And QGIS behaves different regarding /both/ read and write operations when these file are present. This is probably the explanation of the longer reading times, even if nobody actually is editing the layer. When the user stops the editing mode for the layer, the 2 files disappear. You can check if this is the explanation: 1. Open the gpkg layer in read mode on one computer, check the access speed of the same layer on /another/ computer. 2. Set the layer in edit mode on the first computer, check the access speed to the layer on the second computer 3. Revert the edit mode on the first computer, check the access speed to the layer on the second computer. I am guessing, that situations 1 and 3 are fast, while situation 2 is slow. First of all: Never, ever try to implement some kind of multi-user editing on a file based format, where the file resides on a networked drive. It will never, ever work reliably. At some point 2 users will try to edit the same layer at the same time and it will go kaboom (I can read from your mails that you are aware about this). This goes for - probably - every file based format on a network drive. Secondly: What about making the gpkg file read-only at the network share level for most of the users. And only granting write access to the gpkg file for certain users that are instructed in /not/ setting the layer in edit mode unless it's strictly necessary ? Re: [Qgis-user] [EXTERNAL] Re: Geopackage slow on NAS if not read-only
When any user on your network access the geopackage layer and (maybe unnecessarily) puts the layer in edit mode, there will be created 2 extra files in the same directory as the gpkg file resides in. [Qgis-user] Transformation of vertical datum for points
Hi list - I have a question regarding transformation of ellisoid heights to geoid heights.. I have a dataset consisting of points, where the z coordinate is a attribute column for the layer. (If necessary, this can be changed to a 3 dimensional layer type - or the x, y values can be placed i 2 attribute columns - whatever) The data is in EPSG:32825 (UTM32N/ETRS89) and the present height values are ellisoid height values for this CRS. I would like to transform the height values the the corresponding DVR90 ( EPSG:5799) geoid height values Can this be done in QGIS using some kind of expression function. "A picture is worth a thousands words"... I don't have any tips on using more cores from QGIS. However, My own hack: * Install a Postgres/PostGIS database system local on the same computer as QGIS. * Setup Postgres to use as many cores as you wish. Newer version of Postgres is *much better* at multiprocessing. * Upload necessary data to the database. * Redesign the data processing workflow as table-creating queries in Postgres. * Use QGIS as a visualisation tool for Postgres data results. I know, it's not the solution for everybody or any data processing situation, but it works at lot of the time for me. The -sql "select a,b..." might eliminate this problem by only including one of the geometry columns in the field lidst. Re: [Qgis-user] Functional dependency seem not working in group
Hi Peter - (This comment has nothing to do with your original question; however, the query caught my eye): You query is probably not as efficient as it can be. If you read the documentation for PostGIS about "ST_Expand": -- quote -- Pre version 1.3, ST_Expand was used in conjunction withST_Distance <https://postgis.net/docs/ST_Distance.html>to do indexable distance queries. For example,|geom && ST_Expand('POINT(10 20)', 10) AND ST_Distance(geom, 'POINT(10 20)') < 10|. This has been replaced by the simpler and more efficientST_DWithin <https://postgis.net/docs/ST_DWithin.html>function. -- quote end -- So if you're using a PostGIS later than 1.3 you could improve the query by doing this: drop table if exists stevns_test_urban_ped; create table stevns_test_urban_ped as select urban.id as id, urban.geom as geom, min(urban.pop2019) as pop2019, count(forest) as ped, min(urban.pop2019)/(count(forest)+1)::float as pop_forest_ped from (select * from stevns_test_p where lu_type = 1) as urban join (select * from stevns_test_p where lu_type = 2) as forest on *ST_DWithin(urban.geom, forest.geom, 1000.0)* group by urban.id*, urban.geom* ; Med venlig hilsen / Best regards Bo Victor Thomsen Den 17-10-2022 kl. 09:04 skrev Hans Skov-Petersen via Qgis-user: Dear Michael Functional dependencies are, according the Net, applied in PostgreSQL:https://stackoverflow.com/questions/66065987/postgres-sql-column-must-appear-in-the-group-by-clause-or-be-used-in-an-aggrega And accordingly, you shouldn't worry about it in PostGIS. [Qgis-user] Latest development version of QGIS as a .msi standalone installer ?

Within the scrip I can do everything what I can do in a Python-script, so there I can select some features in a layer and show that selection. But this selections are “hard-coded” in the script, I cannot pass over these parameters to the myscript.py. In “Pure Python” I can pass parameters to a Python Script using “python myscript.py arg1 arg2 arg3”. This seems to be not working in the QGIS-Command-Line as the parameters are interpreted as “layers to load”. Am I right with my analysis? One workaround is to write the parameters to al file and use this file within the myscript.py to define the selections. Re: [Qgis-user] MapInfo export issue
Hi Paul - It's maybe not pertinent to case but I tried to export a Postgres-based layer to both the MapInfo MIF and Tab file-formats and showing the layers afterwards in QGIS - but using QGIS v. *3.22* on Windows 10. It worked perfectly. I checked the first part of the generated MIF text file. It looked fine and contained all the necessary parts in the header : version info, projection info and data structure info. Regarding your MapInfo error when reading MIF/MID: It is probably caused by the MIF-file is missing "Version 300" as the first line - causing the MapInfo interpreter to look after it until it find the first "Region" definition in the file (MapInfo speak for polygon). Why, I don't know... But QGIS v. 3.16 is a strange beast. Did you check if the projection was correctly set in the "Save features as" dialog before exporting the data ? Med venlig hilsen / Kind regards Bo Victor Thomsen Den 01-12-2021 kl. 18:04 skrev Paul Wittle: Hi, I’ve tried exporting to MIF instead of a tab file and it generates an error of “Found [region] while searching for [version]” when you try to load it into the MapInfo. The output is also creating an error when QGIS tries to load the data as well although I’m not sure if QGIS could ever directly load MIF files. The main issue is that if you save to TAB and select “Add saved file to map” it draws in a different place. This feels a bit wrong to me. In any case we are trying to get people to upgrade to the latest version of MapInfo so GeoPackage is supported. I will just advise our users to export to GeoPackage instead and use that as the main data sharing format instead. Thanks for all the tips and suggestions though. When using the authentication manager each PostGIS connection gets its own ID which in turn is then referenced in the connection string to the layer. Re: [Qgis-user] LTR Support Improvements for 2022
Hi Marco - First of all, I would like to thank you and the PSC for keeping the concept of LTR. I was worried after the discussion on developer list recently. My personal opinion - based on empirical observations of QGIS usage and as a member of the steering committee of the Danish QGIS user group - is that a vast majority of QGIS user (at least in Denmark) is using a recent version of QGIS LTR as their primary QGIS system. And the adventurous users or users in need have a parallel installation of a later, non-LTR QGIS on the same pc. It would be detrimental to the effort of expanding or even keeping the QGIS user base if you abandoned the LTR concept. Regarding your questions: * The reduction of number of 12 yearly point releases to 4 has no practical disadvantages and will reduce the work effort of getting the releases out of the door. I don't know a single organisation that install all the point releases. 4 is fine. * The saved time could - and probably will - be used for more extensive testing the 4 releases. This will result in overall better releases with fewer errors than before. * And - again - my experience is, that the vast, vast majority of QGIS users is on Windows. It makes sense to maximize the pre-release testing effort on this platform. * AFAIK, my installed QGIS is communicating with QGIS.org using the newsfeed facility. You can turn it off if you want to. I don't see anything problematic in delivering information of the operating system type together with the QGIS version. So a big +1 and thumbs-up on all 4 proposals. Med venlig hilsen / Kind regards Bo Victor Thomsen Den 20-11-2021 kl. 08:00 skrev Marco Bernasocchi: Dear community, since their introduction, QGIS LTR versions have gained wide-spread popularity [0]. LTR point releases have always followed the regular monthly release cycle [1] creating a constant flow of point releases that likely exceeds the update frequency that LTR users desire and actually roll-out. To further improve our LTR offering and ensure the reliability of our installers, we propose to introduce pre-release LTR package tests. These semi-automated and manual tests will be performed during a two-week period between packaging and announcement of new packages. The 2022 budget proposal will account for the additional costs of pre-release LTR package tests. To stay within a reasonable budget and allow for an appropriate number of tests, we propose to reduce the LTR point release frequency to quarterly (four times a year) and initially limit testing to the platform with our largest user base (Windows). If accepted, the new quarterly schedule would start as soon as the whole testing infrastructure is ready. This would probably be introduced stepwise during the 3.22 lifecycle and become definitive in the 3.28 cycle. Together with this proposal, to quantify the userbases by operating system, and be able to make data driven decisions in the future, the QGIS network user agent now includes a generic string mentioning the user’s operating system. You can read more about the change here [2]. We are looking forward to hearing what you think about these news plans and your ideas how they may be improved. [Qgis-user] raster to polygons conversion with float value pixels
Greetings list - I have a question about polygonization of a raster layer/file with float values as pixel values My raster layer contains pixel /float/-values from -0.97 to +4.78. When I run the///"//Polygonize (raster to vector)//"/ processing algorithm I get a new layer with nice polygons in the layer. However, all my depth values has been converted to integers in the range from 0 - 4. And the polygons has been dissolved in fewer and larger polygons that what I wanted. Is there a method i.e some qualifier or whatnot, that I can add to the GDAL command-line that would classify the decimal values from meters to centimeters, i.e I would get a polygon layer with depth values like -0.99, -09.98 ... 4.78 (around 577 discrete values), and a larger number of smaller polygons ? I'm aware that I could take the raster layer, multiply the pixel values with 100.0; convert to integer; create the the polygon layer from the modified raster layer and lastly update the depth value in the polygon layer by dividing it with 100. And yes, I can make a processing model to do the work But alas, I have hundreds of raster layers to process, so I trying to minimize the work for processing each of these raster files. -- Med venlig hilsen / Kind regards Bo Victor Thomsen ___ Qgis-user mailing list Qgis-user@lists.osgeo.org List info: https://lists.osgeo.org/mailman/listinfo/qgis-user Unsubscribe: https://lists.osgeo.org/mailman/listinfo/qgis-user
[Qgis-user] Transform vectordata using affine transformation
Hi list - One of my customers just received a data file, where the coordinates is not in any projection: Center of map data is (0,0), units in mm. not meter, maybe some rotation too. However, at least it's a planar coordinate system (I hope). Instead of sending the #¤%&! data file back to the "GIS no-good" architect who send it , I've decided to - once and for all - to find a method to transform this kind of data to a reasonable CRS using an affine transformation. * I'm aware of the Processing algorithm "Affine transform" that can do the actual transformation once I know the translation, rotation and scale coefficients of the transformation. * And I know how to find the affine transformation matrix using a set of points from the data that corresponds with a set of points in the destination CRS. However, Is there any plug-in that can: 1. Digitize a set of positions from the original data. 2. Digitize or manually set the corresponding positions in the destination CRS 3. Create the translation, scale and rotation parameters using data from (2) 4. Run the "Affine transformation" algorithm to transform the data to the right position in the chosen CRS In short - a Georeferencer for vector data * A name of a functioning plug-in would be lovely * A set QGIS classes/methods that could help with establishing the transformation matrix and other stuff would be really nice * A "No" to all my wishes would suck. [Qgis-user] Use of embedded styling
Hi list - I've been experimenting with the new "embedded styling" facility in QGIS 3.20 and used it on a number of MapInfo Tab files. And it woks amazingly well. Using "Embedded Symbols" as symbology type, the TAB based layers look exactly the same in QGIS as in MapInfo. Even the symbology of point objects is spot on (because I have a - long, unused - MapInfo installation lurking on my pc with its TrueType Symbol fonts). However, I would like to convert to a "normal" categorized symbolisation , because I want to export the tab layer to another format and keep the styling. So I want to add the OGR Feature Style text for each object into a text column for the layer. And using this column as the categorization column. So (at last) the question: Is it possible to get the "OGR Feature Style" definition from data formats that supports embedded styling? Perhaps as an expression variable, so the OGR feature style text could be saved into a field and subsequently used as a categorization field ? Alternatively, some (maybe Python based) method to get a text representation of style definition for each and every object in a layer?? -- Med venlig hilsen / Kind regards Bo Victor Thomsen ___ Qgis-user mailing list Qgis-user@lists.osgeo.org List info: https://lists.osgeo.org/mailman/listinfo/qgis-user Unsubscribe: https://lists.osgeo.org/mailman/listinfo/qgis-user

I had a look at the most obvious place for a filter definition: The properties of a WMS layer, section "Source" and a possible "Provider Feature Filter" textbox, but alas: No luck finding it. Re: [Qgis-user] Hardware comparisons
I'm not aware of any systematic comparison of memory consumption for MapInfo, QGIS and ArcGIS On my Windows 10 (64 bit / 48 GB Ram) QGIS consumes around 200 MB on startup. And around 400 MB with a (for me) typical QGIS scenario with 10 GeoPackage based layers and a WMS. I do not find that excessive. One possible explanation for the memory usage. QGIS uses the user-specific "appdata" directory extensively by default. So this directory has to accessible on the app-server. This operation might consume some memory (This is just a guess) AFAIK, there no method to restrict Remote App (RDS) memory usage on Windows Server. It's the underlying OS assignment to toggle the compute resources. Being a little bit snarky: The list price for one (1) "MapInfo Pro Standard Concurrent Permanent" (The necessary license for MI on Remote app-servers) is $5.887. That amount of money will get you ca. 0.5 TB ECC ram to a server class PC. Hi Pekka - I think you ran into a QGIS - Postgres problem using the "identity" type qualifier. I tried to execute your "create table" example with the "Identity" type definition for the primary key. It doesn't create the sequence that QGIS assumes exist. Changing you sample code to: CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS data.sample_point2 ( fid serial NOT NULL, wkb_point geometry(Point,3067), name varchar, CONSTRAINT sample_point2_pk PRIMARY KEY (fid) ); i.e change the PK column to a "serial" will produce the expected sequence in Postgres. Re: [Qgis-user] Combing Vector Layers - With Attributes
You can use processing algorithm "refactor fields" on the layer(s) that have fields to be changed. This operation will give you a temporary file/layer the same number of columns and -names as the original layer, but with column type(s) redefined by you. Afterwards you can merge the temporary file/layer with the other layers Just be sure to have the latest (functioning) version of QGIS installed: 3.16.3. From the error message you included, I suspect you have an older version of QGIS installed. Re: [Qgis-user] Qfield on TDC600
Hi Ivan - I've experienced similar problems with other GIS applications and platforms. In some of these cases, the problem was caused by the GPS delivering "to many" positions to the application. Instead of generating (perhaps) 1 fix/sec the GPS generated 10 fixes/sec and overwhelmed the input buffer in the application. The visible symptoms is that the GPS position trails behind the actual position. If you stop walking, the the GPS position eventually catches up to the actual position. You might try the slow the number of fixes/sec (if it's possible). This is just a guess. I have no experience at all with the Trimble TDC600 at all. I prepared a project in QGIS (3.14.16). The cursor on the screen does not move at the same time as I move, there is a delay of about 70 seconds. I'm also sending a picture where I've tried to illustrate the problem. After I arrived at a certain place, I immediately made a point in front of the entrance to the building. The cursor at that time was about 100 m from that place and the position of the point was also recorded there (showing accuracy below 1m). The cursor was still moving to my place. By the time I took the photo (using a widget for photos), the cursor moved to a place about halfway between where I was standing and where the point was recorded. The coordinates of the cursor at that time were assigned. But the photo (towards the entrance to the building) was taken from the place where I was standing. Occasionally, the cursor reached the actual position and pointed accurately. But, if I wanted to add a new point, after saving, there was a delay again after adding it. There was no such problem with other applications (LocusGIS, Google maps, TerraFlex). The problem also occurred in these applications when Qfield was turned on simultaneously. I have good experience using the Qfield app on other devices (Trimble TDC100, android 5) or phones with higher versions of android. Can you help me how to solve this problem? Re: [Qgis-user] Best practice, database vs WFS
As a former (Q)GIS administrator for a Danish municipality with: * Ca. 100 QGIS users, some experienced and some total newbies * Several hundred different spatial data layers in both MS-SQLServer, PostgreSQL and some file based formats. * Most of the layers read-only but a significant number of layers editable. I'll suggest: * Don't use WFS for local connections. The added layer of complexity will make the complete system much slower, more unstable and more difficult to administer. * Use .qlr files to present the individual layers from the databases for users with symbology and without them having to use the database connection tabs in the Data Manager. * You can save all the different .qlr files in a common network based directory that can be accessed by all users. And make this directory a "favourite" directory in the QGIS Data Manager. This will make data access easy and uniform for every type of data. * You can group the .qlr files in logical groups using a directory structure under the main directory. And give the qlr files some easily understood names. * Use the database access systems to control the individual user access rights. * If you're in a Windows domain based system with windows pc's and postgres servers running on windows, take a look at the SSPI access method. This will give you a "Integrated security" like access to Postgres. So if all your geodata is on one database then it is all easy enough but if you have multiple database types / instances then you are relying a lot on users being able to find the right database / instance and then having potentially different login mechanisms for each database. This is why the idea of WFS seems appealing because we can authenticate at access to the WFS server using a single method; expose all the accessible datasets in a single list and in theory potentially employ greater consistency to the method of updates. We have found that the SQL issued by each database driver can vary in terms of the SQL optimisation because each one is developed independently of others (i.e. the Oracle data access is not necessary developed with much reference to the Postgres or SQL database data access clients). Whilst fundamentally the SQL statements are still in effect translated into the appropriate SQL for each database type the original statement should in theory be more consistent? In terms of speed; I suspect you are definitely correct hence my asking the question really. The comments above are really to simply flesh out the question as to whether or not using a database is really simpler though. That said; we may also use something like a custom plugin or GeoNetwork as a data discovery tool which is another way of helping users add the right layer without needing to know which database it comes from. I hope that clarifies the question a little better? The constraint is that you will need an application (like QGIS) to access your data.. WFS is a web service standard for interoperability, it is ideal for sharing data on the internet over HTTP, there is no need for a particular application to use the service: any HTTP client is able to do that. We have concluded that in theory the WFS and WFS-T protocols are an OGC standard (https://www.ogc.org/standards/wfs) and that using an OGC compliant server they can be used to front various data source formats; i.e. Postgres, Oracle, SQL Server etc. In theory that means that if you use WFS and WFS-T in QGIS it should mean that user experience becomes more consistent for the people using those layers in QGIS. That all sounds great, but I can’t seem to even get my WFS to load correctly in QGIS at present and it doesn’t seem to be something that is recommended online. Given that both WFS and direct database access both return full details (vector geometries and attributes) to QGIS; would you expect performance of WFS to be similar or significantly slower? I assume that the Windows 10 update didn't mess directly with your QGIS installation. So the error stems from some missing dependency for "binqgis_core.dll". So the update has perhaps updated/ removed / renamed / torpedoed / barfed a dll, that "binqgis_core.dll" is dependent on. You could try using "Dependencies.exe" on the dll "binqgis_core.dll" and look for the entry point "clCreateCommandQueueWithProperties" and check if any dependencies is missing. Re: [Qgis-user] Installing QGIS 3.14 or 3.16 on Windows: it only runs as administrator
Hi Jorge - If it's an so-called "enterprise" setup of the new Windows PC, the IT department might have mucked around with all sorts of security and userdata setups. QGIS needs to have read/write access to the %userdata% path to read and write parameter settings, installing and loading plugins and so on. You can try: * To start QGIS with the--noplugins qualifier. This will stop QGIS from loading plugins on startup. * To start QGIS with the --profiles-path The--profiles-path qualifier gets QGIS to use another directory for profiles storage than the default must point to an existing directory path where you're certain you have read/write access to. If it actually works with the second suggestion, your IT department probably has made the userdata directory inaccessible for QGIS. [Qgis-user] Plugin to export project + data into a new geopackage
Hi list - I'm looking for a method / plugin to take all data, symbology, layer order and so on - from a existing (and opened) QGIS project and save all data - vector, raster and all - into a new geopackage. And where the extend of the current map window is used as a filter for data. In short: Make a copy of a project limited in geographical extend, but with all the data and symbology intact and copied into a single geopackage I'm not sure it can be done 100 % and I haven't yet found a plugin with this functionality. Hi Michael - All your questions are pertinent and needs to be redressed. However one small personal nitpick: If I had a task involving importing 200 or more layers into Postgres from some other data-source I would never use DBManager import with it's manual point-and-click. That's simply to risky I would use a command-line tool OGR2OGR, which is included in the QGIS installation: https://gdal.org/drivers/vector/pg.html. It can be started using the shortcut "OSGeo4W Shell" placed in the same program group as QGIS. -- Med venlig hilsen / Kind regards Bo Victor Thomsen Den 19-04-2020 kl. 16:35 skrev Michael Dufty: Thanks Jorge, The DB manager also 'just works' apparently regardless of which boxed I tick. Create spatial index – this sounds like a good idea, but the one youtube tutorial I found (Klas Karlson) he left it unticked and said the layer already had everything. Hi Michael - It is 100% voluntary if a company wants to pay for a sustaining membership. Pay what you feel is appropriate. Or pay a one-time donation. As an example : The Danish QGIS Usergroup (of which I'm a board member) pays as a "Large Member" each year. We represent a number of municipalities and companies that using is QGIS. Every institution pays around 300 Euro /year for membership in the Danish User Group. A large part of the usergroup's income goes directly to the international QGIS organisation. The rest is used for QGIS activities related directly to Denmark. Some of our members also supports qgis.org directly or by supporting QGIS development. The point is: Every organisation supports QGIS with the amount of money they find is appropriate. Or by other method, like directly supporting the development of new functionality. -- Med venlig hilsen / Kind regards Bo Victor Thomsen Den 16-04-2020 kl. 02:45 skrev Michael Dufty: Sustaining membership works out a bit steep for us if you follow the guideline – about 10 times what we currently pay for commercial software (Manifold). Even if I love QGIS, sometimes there is a better tool for certain GIS jobs. In this case: *ogr2ogr*, which is a command-line tool that's included in the QGIS distribution. Do the following (I assume you want to make a shiny new geopackage file instead of old fiddly shapefile): * Create a directory in which to save the geopackage. Let's call it : *c:\data* * Create a text file with the following content: ogr2ogr -f GPKG c:\data\census.gpkg -nln census -nlt PROMOTE_TO_MULTI /vsizip//vsicurl/https://www2.census.gov/geo/tiger/TIGER2019/TRACT/tl_2019_01_tract.zip/tl_2019_01_tract.shp FOR %%G IN (02,04,05,06) DO ( ogr2ogr -f GPKG c:\data\census.gpkg -nln census -nlt PROMOTE_TO_MULTI -append -update /vsizip//vsicurl/https://www2.census.gov/geo/tiger/TIGER2019/TRACT/tl_2019_%%G_tract.zip/tl_2019_%%G_tract.shp ) * save it as: *c:\data\cc.cmd* * start program "OSGeo4W Shell" it's located in same program group as QGIS 3.12. It will start**a dos command shell. * in the command shell: type: *call **c:\data\cc.cmd* * Voila! the cmd file will create a geopackage c:\data\census.gpkg that contains census tracts 01, 02, 04, 05, 06 * You can extend the number of census tracts by extending the linepart: 02,04,05,06 with (example) 02,04,05,06,08,09,10,11,12,13,15 etc. * This www page *https://www2.census.gov/geo/tiger/TIGER2019/TRACT/ *has a list of all available files. The available numbers is between 01 and 78 * The file names and www addresses can off course be changed to other values. Re: [Qgis-user] ISSUE QGIS keeps freezing - QGIS Desktop 3.10.4
Hi Koos - From your description I suspect you had a memory issue, i.e running out of memory. It might be caused by QGIS but it's probably caused by some other app running on your computer. Some (badly implemented) apps are "leaking" memory, i.e: allocating memory, but never deallocating it after use. After some time the bad app has allocated large amounts of memory that's not available to other apps. If you are short on available memory on the computer the OS will begin to swap contents from the memory to and from a swap-file usually placed in the root of C: (the hard-disk containing the OS). This can explain the sudden periodic "freezing" of QGIS: The OS has to load pieces of out-swapped QGIS content into memory before QGIS can continue. If you additionally are short on available disk space on the system drive and are creating some largish temp files (which usually is placed on the system drive), the situation can rapidly escalate to a system crash (BSOD) To avoid this situation: * Install more memory on your computer. * Only have a minimum of apps running at the same time. * Frequently reboot you computer (It's Windows, after all :-) * If you have two hard-disks on your computer: Move the temp directory to different drive than the one containing the swap-file. You already done the "right now"- steps anyway so the mail is more a reminder for other readers or google-searches :-) And by the way: QGIS and Postgres/PostGIS is a killer combination :-) . IMHO it beats other GIS applications hands down. -- Med venlig hilsen / Kind regards Bo Victor Thomsen Den 10-04-2020 kl. 08:55 skrev Koos Fransen: Dear Bo and Andreas Thank you very much for your insights. Re: [Qgis-user] LTR installs
Hi Paul - If I download the "advanced network installer (64bit)" and run it, It eventually (Advanced install -> Install from internet -> All Users -> some local directory.. -> Direct connection -> http://download.osgeo.org.. -> expand "Desktop" ) gives you the following choices: (The above bitmap is not the complete picture) When clicking on "qgis-ltr: QGIS Desktop (long term release)" it shows "3.10.3-1" as the first selection. I know that I can click twice on the QGIS option instead of qgis-ltr-full and that will give me version 3.10.x but how do I know what other library versions I should be installing? To give an example; in the past I’ve selected qgis-ltr-full then hit next to add the dependencies. I then head back and the install shows all the dependences it has selected like grass, python and GDAL for example. This allows me to see which additional ones I need, such as Oracle for example. I don’t have so much confidence when doing the same process in this one month window between the first and second releases so is anyone able to provide a definitive list of what should be selected to get the equivalent of qgis-ltr-full for version 3.10.x at the moment? Re: [Qgis-user] Qgis crashes while loading WMTS layers
Hi Patrick - Swap space is an internal component the underlying operating system (OS) uses for handling memory request that exceeds the ram resources of the computer. A normal user program like QGIS has no "knowledge" about this facility and can't directly manipulate the swap system. As Jonathan describes, "swap" space for for other program is temporary file storage, usually placed in a specific directory (in windows designated by the environment variable %TEMP%). QGIS uses this directory too. A QGIS crash can be caused by running out of memory resources and/or temp file storage. However, that is result of a bad setup of your operating system, which can limit how much swap space, that can be allocated to memory hungry programs and the size of hard-disk used for swap space and/or temp storage So what to do: 1. Check memory consumption when using QGIS. Is it really using all the ram - memory and starting to swap ? 2. Check the setup of the swap space parameters. It it using a hard-disk which is running out of storage space. 3. Check the setup of the temp storage parameters. It it using a hard-disk which is running out of storage space ? Are the user allowed to allocate enough storage? (I can't be more specific not knowing the operating system you use) If the above checks out OK and you still have issues with QGIS crashing.. The shift from QGIS 2.x to QGIS 3.x meant a complete change of the underlying graphics subsystem QT from ver 4.x to ver. 5.x (and a huge amount of other changes). One or more of those changes might cause a failure as you described. However, you have to check the above and then write an error issue (https://github.com/qgis/QGIS/issues) where you describe error messages, your specific setup like operating system and version, QGIS version and - if possible - test-data and project to replicate the issue. -- Med venlig hilsen / Kind regards Bo Victor Thomsen Den 26-01-2020 kl. 13:19 skrev Patrick Dunford: Good day to all. Not so long ago I wrote a post about issues handling large numbers of raster files. This results from what appears to be an architectural design limitation of Qgis in that it only has enough resources available for a certain (unknown) number of raster layers and does not have any effective system for dealing with the exhaustion of these resources. I also noted that the software does not appear to have the ability to use the swap (virtual memory) resources within a system to deal with the apparent exhaustion of resources, as other software would. For example, Gimp which I use for graphical editing is able to handle certain projects using a swap space of 200 GB, which consists of 32 GB of physical RAM and the rest in SSD. It is not unusual with some of these graphics projects to have 100 GB or more of swap space in use, without crashing the system. (This being possible since Gimp 2.10 with its ability to write files of more than 4 GB) Whilst it is possible to manage the number of layers with file based rasters, this cannot be done with a WMTS server because there is no way I am aware of to manage the number of layers that can be downloaded from the server. Version 2.18 and earlier almost never crashed with excess layers, usually all that would happen is a layer would be displayed with invalid data. However, crashes have become the norm with 3.x versions of software. It seems to me there is a big architectural problem in the software with its inability to utilise the full resources of the system in order to process the number of layers that a WMTS server is capable of issuing. ___ Qgis-user mailing list Qgis-user@lists.osgeo.org List info: https://lists.osgeo.org/mailman/listinfo/qgis-user Unsubscribe: https://lists.osgeo.org/mailman/listinfo/qgis-user ___ Qgis-user mailing list Qgis-user@lists.osgeo.org List info: https://lists.osgeo.org/mailman/listinfo/qgis-user Unsubscribe: https://lists.osgeo.org/mailman/listinfo/qgis-user

Re: [Qgis-user] Polygonize - No result
The problem is that the *stand-alone* installation of QGS 3.10 (64 bit at least) doesn't set the PYTHONPATH environment variable, so the python interpreter can't find the module. However, the "*network installation*" of the same QGIS version do set the variable. And that version works without a hitch If you add a custom variable *PYTHONPATH* with value *C:\PROGRA~1\QGIS3~1.10\apps\Python37;C:\PROGRA~1\QGIS3~1.10\apps\Python37\Scripts *to the stand-alone version of QGIS 3.10 (and restart the program) the "polygonize (raster to vector)" works in this version too. So I suspect we might have a packaging problem with with the stand-alone installation -- Med venlig hilsen / Kind regards Bo Victor Thomsen Den 07-01-2020 kl. 10:08 skrev Luigi Pirelli: do you have python_gdal installed and/or check that gdal_polygonize.py is available... a osgeo4w packaging problem can result in associate gdal_polygonize.py to a interpreter. Re: [Qgis-user] Experiences using QGIS + PostgreSQL/PostGIS in a multiuser environment?
This reply is rather long and some of the information has already partly been given in other replies. However, the following list is my "checklist" for using Postgres/PostGIS with QGIS and other GIS programs. * Postgres is an excellent platform for creating a multi user spatial data platform. And - for QGIS - faster than using just about any other spatial storage technology. But you have prepare your Postgres setup. * Memory configuration: Out of the box Postgres is *very* conservative about using memory. Tune the configuration. If you don't have the know-how or time use a tool like this: *https://pgtune.leopard.in.ua/#/* (there is one aber-dabei: Choose "Linux" as the operating system even if you server is Windows. The old advise about using only 512 MB shared memory on windows is obsolete: *https://momjian.us/main/blogs/pgblog/2018.html#December_17_2018*) * If you have a serious multi CPU server (And who hasn't ?): Use Postgres 12 / PostGIS 3 for getting maximum performance using multiprocessing in Postgres/PostGIS: *http://blog.cleverelephant.ca/2019/08/postgis-3-parallel.html *(and tune your Postgres accordingly - see above). Yes I know about QGIS troubles with Postgres 12. They will hopefully be resolved quickly. * If you have a "Windows only" setup i.e both the server and the clients are Windows, consider using SSPI sign on method: *https://wiki.postgresql.org/wiki/Configuring_for_single_sign-on_using_SSPI_on_Windows* It's equivalent to "Integrated security" for MS-SQLServer and will reduce the hassle about user credentials for Postgres, because the server will reuse the windows logon identity inside Postgres. * And a little know trick: If you have a lot of large complex geometries and some extra disk capacity you can speed your queries considerably by *not* compressing TOAST data for your spatial tables: *http://blog.cleverelephant.ca/2018/09/postgis-external-storage.html. * * (This information is probably not pertinent for you as this time) If you have a "large" pool of users where a small part is "editors" and a large part "read-only" users, consider having 2 Postgres servers: o One for editing users, where the Postgres setup is tuned for editing. Only editing user is allowed access to this server. The server can probably be quite small. o A second Postgres server tuned for read access. All Postgres users has only read access to this server. This server is the larger of the servers. o Connect the 2 server in a master/slave replication configuration using the "editor" server as a master. This will remove any problems for "editor"-users when "read"-users blow up the read server with some convoluted query (And they will !!) -- Med venlig hilsen / Kind regards Bo Victor Thomsen Den 20-11-2019 kl. 11:10 skrev Hernán De Angelis: Hello QGIS:ers I am evaluating setting up a server running PostgreSQL/PostGIS for use as data sharing/collaborating environment for spatial data. Seems like all segments should have been merged into a single linestring. Any thoughts as to what's going on? Re: [Qgis-user] Several icons for plugin
Hi Christoph - The resources.py file is generated (transpiled) from resources.qrc using a tool called pyrcc5. This tool *should* be called from pb_tools. However if your path command doesn't contain the directory for pyrcc5.py. It won't work. A workaround. Create a file with these commands I'm showing it as a bitmap, because 20.000 virus scanners would howl if I was sending it as actual dos commands. The command file will create a new resources.py overwriting the existing resources.py file using the contents of resources.qrc You can remove the "pause" commands -- Med venlig hilsen / Kind regards Bo Victor Thomsen Den 30-08-2019 kl. 09:25 skrev Christoph Jung: Hello everybody, I have a problem with the integration of additional icons in a plugin besides the main icon for it. Re: [Qgis-user] failed to add WMS layer
Stewart.. It's the wms server that doesn't work. It has (probably) nothing to to with QGIS. I've tried the activate the wms address directly in a Firefox browser and it does not return a getcapabilities document (it doesn't return anything) . The wmts adress works though. Both the WMS and the WMTS addresses are correct according to this http page: https://basemap.nationalmap.gov/arcgis/rest/services/USGSTopo/MapServer So I conclude, the USGS has a server/network problem. Since others on the list can get a list of layers using the same http address with QGIS it's probably a routing problem in the internal network of USGS. Regards Bo Victor Thomsen AestasGIS, Denmark Den 01-08-2019 kl. 20:08 skrev Stewart Holt: I use USGS WMS and WMTS layers. At some point in the recent past the WMS layers stopped working. I am almost sure they have worked in QGIS V3. I usually use WMTS because of the speed, but for final publishing, I have seen some cases where a corresponding WMS layer is higher definition, so I would like to be able to use it. Also the long timeout while starting the project is unfortunate and I don't want to delete the WMS layer. Here is a WMS layer which fails: https://basemap.nationalmap.gov/arcgis/services/USGSTopo/MapServer/WMSServer?request=GetCapabilities=WMS And a corresponding WMTS layer which works: https://basemap.nationalmap.gov/arcgis/rest/services/USGSTopo/MapServer/WMTS/1.0.0/WMTSCapabilities.xml On the failing WMS layer, I have removed it and added it back. When I test it I get a message saying that a get capabilities request has failed. I hope someone who might be able to figure out what is going on can give this URL a try. Re: [Qgis-user] Version 3.4.7 (LTR) is locking MapInfo tab files
The original bug: https://github.com/qgis/QGIS/issues/29885 The original fix: https://github.com/qgis/QGIS/pull/3034 Excerpt from the bugfix: *rouault <https://github.com/rouault> * commented on 27 Apr 2016 <https://github.com/qgis/QGIS/pull/3034#issuecomment-214999338> "Additional precision for completness. The name of the PR is maybe a bit misleading. It should read "concurrent opening". Modification in MapInfo while a dataset is opened by QGIS is not possible. But this was already the case with GDAL 1.X. But modification in QGIS is possible and MapInfo will see the changes. MapInfo apparently needs an exclusive access to the files to allow saving them. Fixing that isn't in the immediate scope of interest and would require both changes in GDAL and QGIS so that QGIS asks GDAL to close file descriptors when it doesn't need access to the files." As I read this excerpt, it means that it's not possible for MapInfo to update a tab-file while an instance QGIS is using it whether it's for update or for read purposes. I don't know if there is other bugfixes that has addressed this issue. I've been in the same situation a while back with an organisation having 2000 - 3000 tab files. My solution was to put all data from the tab files into a Postgres database and create tab files that "pointed" to the new tables, and let both MapInfo and QGIS users use the Postgres tables in stead. This was a long and exhausting process but it - for once and all - solved the concurrency problems. It not the mechanical process to convert the tab-file to a table that is the problem. That is a task that can be solved using ex. ogr2ogr. The worst problem is deciding which version of each and every tab file that is the most current and complete and choosing this tab file for conversion to postgres. [Qgis-user] How to use spatial filtering in dataprovider filter
Hi all - Im am experimenting with using the dataprovider based *spatial* filtering in QGIS For example: with a Postgres based datasource I can write a filter like this: ST_Intersects( "geometry", ST_GeomFromText(' Polygon ((582084. 6143051. .. lots of coordinates ... 582084. 6143051.))', 25832)) This will show a layer that only contains objects which actually intersects with the text defined polygon even if the unfiltered datasource contains a large number of objects taht does not intersect withe the text polygon Something similar can be done with SQLserver to: mygeom.ST_Intersects (...) = 1 But what about ogr file based vector sources like tab or shape files ? You can define a *alfanumerical* filter like this : "myfield" > 27 to a ogr file datasource. Works like a charm. But what about *spatial filtering* ? Iv'e tried to use the same expression like the postgres one but on a shapefile. I don't get any errors :-). However the filter function doesn't work and let all objects through the filter :-( What am I doing wrong with the file based spatial filtering? Or is it simply impossible ? -- Med venlig hilsen Bo Victor Thomsen ___ Qgis-user mailing list Qgis-user@lists.osgeo.org List info: https://lists.osgeo.org/mailman/listinfo/qgis-user Unsubscribe: https://lists.osgeo.org/mailman/listinfo/qgis-user

Re: [Qgis-user] QGIS 3.4.2 still very slow to work in Windows 10
Just my - very late – 2 cents. I have 2 computers that is exactly the same type: Lenovo Thinkpad P50. There is no difference in cpu, memory, SSD or graphics. One is running Windows 7 and one is running Ubuntu 18.04. Both have QGIS 3.4.2 with the same plugins installed. The Linux pc starts QGIS 3.4.2 in just 4 seconds or less. The windows machine is at least 5 times slower starting up. When QGIS is running the Linux pc is slightly faster. The crucial difference is the startup time of the plugins. On the Linux pc you hardly notice the "Restoring loaded plugins" text. However, it takes – forever - on the Windows pc. My guess is that the initialization of the python plugins runs very, very slow on the Windows pc. Re: [Qgis-user] User question of the month
Hi Anita - Thanks for the effort in trying to establish user and upgrading patterns for QGIS :-) I think however, that the answers ar skewed, because the "enterprise" segment of users probably doesn't even know about this mailing list or "Planet QGIS", so the answers mostly represent "power" users. . My own experience with enterprise rollouts of QGIS - and I have made a couple of these - tells me that your average IT-department prefer a yearly rollout, might accept a major upgrade every 6 months and will absolutely *refuse* anything on a timescale lesser than 4 months. YMMV Enterprise users are roughly split in two groups. 25% are curious and embraces new versions. The other 75 % doesn't give a flying fig about new versions and functions as long the current version are stable and have a tool-set that covers the conceived needs for the individual user. Again, YMMV Just my 2 cents Kind regards Bo Victor Thomsen Den man. 3. dec. 2018 kl. 22.24 skrev Anita Graser : > Dear users, > > The answers to the user question of November have now been published: > http://blog.qgis.org/2018/12/03/user-question-of-the-month-dec-18-answers-from-nov/ > > We also have a new question for December: what you think QGIS.ORG should > focus on in 2019? https://goo.gl/forms/2xOP1rSz8AaDCCi02 > > Regards, > Anita > > > On Sun, Nov 11, 2018 at 10:23 PM Anita Graser wrote: > >> Dear users, >> >> QGIS 2.18 is the third LTR since we started this effort back in 2015 and >> next year will see the first LTR of QGIS 3. Re: [Qgis-user] geopackage spatial query
Hi Klaus - Even though the GeoPackage format is using a spatialite database as the foundation, the internal format of the geopackage geometry type differs from the spatialite type. So yon can't directly use spatialite geometry based function with geopackage geometries. However you can "wrap" every use of GeoPackage geometries in a converter function: *CastAutomagic(geom)*, which converts a GeoPackage geometry to a Spatialite geometry. So a call to: /st_area (geom)/ becomes /st_area(*CastAutomagic(*geom*)*)/ (No, It's not nice and it certainly not effective use of computer resources, however it works.) Ok, after some googling, I have a glimmer of understanding of the (technical and personal) issues. Enough said about that... So technically, GPKG support in QGIS is a hybrid of a "simple" GPKG implementation bundled/merged with the spatialite sqlite-extension incl. conversion functions, so you can convert the GPKG binary object to and fro a spatialite ditto - when you have to use som spatialite-specific functionality like spatial SQL, projection support and so on ? Re: [Qgis-user] Geopagkage and "geom" in DBmanager
Hi Lene - I've made a few observations regarding the use of GeoPackage in DBManager... I have a *GeoPackage* based table called "renhold" containing polygons. Primary key column is an integer called "fid" and the geometry column is called "geom" - It's pretty close to your setup If I use the *DBManager* with the *GeoPackage *dataprovider and execute the following statement: *select fid, st_area (geom) from renhold , *it returns a table with 2 columns as expected. However , column nr. 2 contains only nulls. However, the statement does not result in an error. The function "st_area" simply doesn't return a value besides null. An now the mystery!! : If I use the *DBManager* with the *Virtual Layers -> Project layers *dataprovider and execute the following statement: *select fid, st_area (geometry) from renhold , *it returns a table with 2 columns as expected. And column nr. 2 do contain the expected area values. Go figure... NB! The "renhold" layer is visible in the map and named "renhold" NBB! In the *Virtual Layers* dataprovider you have to use the standard name "geometry" to represent the geometry column - not the real column name ("geom" in this case) Actually I have a reasonable explanation: The 2 different dataproviders uses different internal functions to calculate the area. However the function used by the GeoPackage Dataprovider doesn't work ! [Qgis-user] current_value function doesn't work ??
I'm trying to recreate the functionality from the "form value relation" plugin that was available in QGIS 2.x using the "current_value" function together with the "value relation" widget in QGIS 3.2.2. This is done using 3 tabels - all WFS based. * "points_table" containing fields "mec" and "ec" fields (data table) * "m_elements" table containing field "mec" (lookup table no 1) * "elements" table containing "mec" and "ec". The "mec" field has foreign key constraint to table "m_elements" in the database dataprovider for the wfs. (lookup table no 2) The "mec" field in the "points_table" has a "value relation" widget using table "m_elements" and field "mec" as lookups. This works.. The "ec" field in "points_table" has a has a "value relation" widget using table "elements" and field "ec" as lookup - and a filter expression like this: "mec" = current_value('mec') This dosn't work. There are no candidates in the widget drop-down even if the "mec" field has a value . If I remove the filter expression all the possible candinates from table "elements" are present in the widget drop-down. Is the current_value function working at all? Can the error be related to the use of wfs ?? -- Kind regards Bo Victor Thomsen ___ Qgis-user mailing list Qgis-user@lists.osgeo.org List info: https://lists.osgeo.org/mailman/listinfo/qgis-user Unsubscribe: https://lists.osgeo.org/mailman/listinfo/qgis-user

I have tried to change the element to which resulted in this rule part: " *underelement_kode LIKE '0.001'* " Not much better :-/ The last result tells me,that a solution mioght be something as a attrubute to the 10e-004 element - perhaps something like this: 10e-004 Which, unfortunately, doesn't work Has anyone a solution for this problem ? Re: [Qgis-user] degrees: is degr/min/sec still used? Or decimal preferable?
I don't think the problems with accuracy stem from the limited number of decimals in a /double/ variable * The circumference of earth: ca. 40.076 km. * 1 degree in meters 40076 km / 360 = 111.32 km/degree = 111320 m/degree. * A double has 52 bits precision, roughly 15 digits (in 10 exponent). That means that the decimal degree has a precision of around 111320/1000 = 1.1132e-10 m = (ca.) 1e-7 mm. (That should be enough for everyone...) * However, if you store your decimal degree value as a single precision real with 23 bits precision (aka. 7 digits precision in 10 exponent), it's another story: This will give you around: 111320/1000 m = 0.011132 m = 11.132 mm So store your decimal degree as doubles, not single precision real. You'll get the beer(s) when we meet at some FOSS4G or Qgis event.. DelazJ: Yes, I was referring to the "Save as image". I simply couldn't remember the English translation for the menu item (Working with a Danish Qgis) Karl-Magnus: (regarding snipping tool) - That's exactly what my users presently are doing. But even that is a bit too much work with the mouse and keyboard :-) Richard: Actually, there already is a feature request for this function (http://hub.qgis.org/issues/10319) . I'll update the existing request. And thank you for the Qgis3 update (You'll get a beer too :-) . If it becomes necessary, I'll update the plugin to 3.0. But I hope that some developer with commit rights will have mercy on me and write this functionality into Qgis 3.0 core. While not part of the QGIS app, one could use this PyQGIS snippet to do so (tested quickly on macOS 10.11.6 under QGIS 2.14) from the PyQGIS console: from PyQt4.QtGui import * QApplication.clipboard().setImage(QImage(QPixmap.grabWidget(iface.mapCanvas( This avoids having to re-render the QGraphicsView (QgsMapCanvas) to a paint device, like an image. Re: [Qgis-user] Corporate Users
Ok - I've added some extra information to the GitHub description of the alternative installation method: " https://github.com/Frederikssund/Alternativ-QGIS-installation/blob/master/Readme%20-%20english.md " " During the ordinary Qgis installation two dll - files is copied to directory C:\Windows\System32. The files are Microsoft basic support files that is used by Qgis. To ensure that the files are present in subsequent Qgis installations the files has to be copied from C:\Windows\System32 to the Qgis program directory, subdirectory \bin, ex. "C:\Program Files\QGIS 2.18\bin\" The names of the two files is msvcp120.dll and msvcr120.dll, if the version of Qgis is 2.18. For earlier Qgis the names *might* be msvcp110.dll / msvcr110.dll or msvcp100.dll / msvcr100.dll. NB! If a Qgis 32 bit version is prepared using a Windows 64 bit PC, the dll files has to be copied from directory C:\Windows\SysWOW64 - *not* C:\Windows\System32. " I've checked that both QGIS 2.18 and 2.16 and Grass 7 are working if you move the aforementioned dll's from C:\windows\system32 to the \bin subdir of the Qgis program directory. So the method will work for these versions of Qgis and Grass. Regards Bo Victor Thomsen 2016-11-07 17:33 GMT+01:00 Jürgen E. Fischer <j...@norbit.de>: > Hi Bo, > > On Mon, 07. Re: [Qgis-user] Corporate Users
Sorry for answering this mail this late; I'm at a GIS conference and not in my office. When the problem about missing dll's pop up, I usally solve this by finding the missing dll's in c:\windows\system32 on the computer where I first made the "regular" installation and copy them to the \bin directory - before you do the roll-out on the end users pc's. It's 2 files - and I can't recall the specific names for the dll's, but the error messages wil give you the exact names for them. There is a small caveat: I'f you're preparing a 32 bit QGIS installation on a Windows 64 bit operating system, the relevant 32 bit dll's will be placed in the C:\windows\syswow64 directory and *not* the c:\windows\system32 directory It's not my experience, that you have to register the specific dll's to get them to load and work. It might have something to with the placement of the dll's in the qgis bin directory and not a common system owned directory like C:\windows\system32 I'll find the names for the dll's and update my github readme to reflect this extra catch and the workaround (In the evening after the conference ends ;-) Regards Bo Victor Thomsen 2016-11-07 13:59 GMT+01:00 <burghardt.scho...@stadt.wolfsburg.de>: > Hi, > > > > you’re right.
