[Qgis-user] qgis browser hangs while opening big shapefile

2016-08-30 Thread Reginald Carlier
Hi,

I downloaded the latest shapefile of OSM for Belgium.
When I open QGIS browser and point to the buildings.shp (size : 325959kB) the
application hangs, so I can't change the CRM.
I also tried clipping the buildings.shp with a polygon shape of a town but that
resulted in the same unresponsive behavior.
I'm using QGIS 2.16.1.

Re: [Qgis-user] qgis browser hangs while opening big shapefile

2016-08-30 Thread Reginald Carlier
Tyler;

I tried to clip without adding to the project.
It took about 20 seconds to complete. When I opened the resulting shapefile it
was empty.
The algorithm gave a warning that the two shapefiles were in a different CRS.
So maybe this is the problem. I will try to put them in the same CRS.

Reginald;
I am on 2.14.5 (thought I had also installed 2.16.x but I guess I skipped it).
The first thing I noticed is when opening the file my memory usage doubled and
qgis-ltr-bin.exe moved right to the top of the processes list. I didn't get any
hang-ups but I feel I may have gotten close. Did you try using the clip
function without adding the layers to the project? My machine did the clip
faster and the result didn't not come in sluggish and I clipped it by about 1/3.

[Qgis-user] clip still not working on osm shape

2016-09-01 Thread Reginald Carlier
Hi Nicolas,

I changed the CRS of the shapefiles so they match (EPSG 4326).
It takes about 30 seconds before the algorithm (Vector > Geoprocessing >
Clippen) finisches.
Then it loads the resulting shapefile in QGIS but the attributetable is empty
and the resulting shp is 1 kB.
It looks as the Clip function doesn't work.

2016-09-01 Thread Reginald Carlier
Hi,

I found that the problem was the conversion of the CRS. When I select the shape
of the town (Lambert 72) in QGIS Browser and choose WGS 84 as CRS the extent is
still in Lambert coordinates. I tried the same in ArcMap and there I got the
same result. Then I tried a function in the toolbox under Data Management >
Projections and Transformations > Project where you can choose the CRS and also
the transformation algorithm. Then the shape of the town was shown in the right
spot. I wonder if there is such a tool in QGIS.

Hi,
Are you running the latest Qgis 2.16? If so, vector tool should be in the
processing toolbox and not in the vector menu. I have only worked one day with
2.16 but it was long enough to see that it needed a complete removal of all
previous versions as the menu had a mixe of the old and the new version. After
that, vector tools disappeared from the vector menu and reappeared in the new
processing menu. I had read about this in a French blog so I was expecting it.
 Could this be the cause of your problem?

If not, make sure both layers are in the same CRS (like you did) but that they
also align properly when the "CRS on the fly" is not activated. Try loading
only those two layers. You could test to see if it's the osm file format that
is giving you problems by testing the two .shp file.

2016-09-01 Thread Reginald Carlier
Hi,

No as I used QGIS Browser there is no option to save the changes. Also it would
be great if there was an option to copy, paste or delete a shape.
I guess I have to load the shape in QGIS and change the CRS and then use ‘save
as’, but when I do that the saved shp shows in the same place as the unchanged
shp.
How can I adjust the extent so that it shows in the right location?

Hi,
Did you resave the file in a new projection or just specified the layer
projection by clicking on the layer in the layer manager?

You need to save the file for the changes to be permanent. There are also more
complex reprojection tools in Qgis.

Re: [Qgis-user] clip still not working on osm shape

2016-09-01 Thread Reginald Carlier
Hi Nicolas,

I’m a little lost here. I use QGIS 2.16.1. When I right click next to the
toolbars I see no plugin that changes the CRS.
When I save a file there is no option to choose the input CRS and output CRS.
You can choose the CRS and there’s a checkbox to choose the extent which is not
checked by default. So I don’t know what to do if I want to change the extent
to the new CRS.
Which of the 111 geo algorithms should I use to change the CRS and reproject
the extent?

Hi,
To modify the shape files, you need to activate the toolbars by right clicking
next to a toolbar. You will find a number of plugins also to help modify
object.

When you save a file, I think you have a input CRS and a output CRS. Make sure
the add both. If it's not there, look in the processing toolbar for Qgis
reprojection tools. What version of Qgis are you working with?

Hi,
Reginald, in QGIS, Layer menu --> Save As ... (or simply a right-click on the
layer) helps you create a reproject the layer in another projection. This is an
easy way you could (actually) change the crs of your layers. Once done, the
clip process should have succeeded.
Changing the projection in the layer properties is not the way to do it.

Hi,
Are you running the latest Qgis 2.16?

Hi,

By "extent", I now understand the you mean that the layer is not in the correct
spot. (In my mind, extent only changes once the clipping is done.).

The coordinates may not change much depending on the type of transformation you
are asking. The idea is to get both layer to overlap in the right spot. Then
to clip the layers using the clipping tools.

For both layers (clipping and osm), ask yourself the following: Are both
layers overlapping? Are both in the correct CRS? Are both correctly
georeferenced? If so, then you should be able to clip them.

If the layers overlap, then does the clipping tool work? Try with a simple
file and test with different files formats. It may be that the osm file format
is giving you problems. The OSM is a vector file?

Make sure you turn off the "on the fly CRS". If it's activated, the layer
will be reprojected on the fly using the project CRS that you see in the lower
right corner of the screen. I usually use a wms server as a background to help
georeferenced things.

Hi,

The clip function is working properly. The problem is the fact that by changing
the CRS the extend is not transformed. In ArcMap the same happens except if you
use the tools available in the toolbox (under Data Management). In this
projection tool you can choose a transform parameter which places the changed
shapefile in the right location. So far I did not find this transformation
options in QGIS and whatever I try, after changing a Lambert 72 shape to WGS
84, the file is not placed in the right spot. I used the QMS Service and added
Mapsurfer OSM Roads. The osm shapefile shows in the right place but the shape
of the town is not transformed to this WGS 84 coordinates and is placed far
above the place where the osm shapefile is placed.

Make sure you turn off the "on the fly CRS". If it's activated, the layer
will be reprojected on the fly using the project CRS that you see in the lower
right corner of the screen. I usually use a wms server as a background to help
georeferenced things.

Hi,
You are correct. Sorry, I was working from memory. Try Qgis geoalgorithms,
Reprojection layer. You can search the processing plugin with"reprojection".

The right click is to activate toolbars for the "digitizing"and "advanced
digitizing toolbars."

When I save a file there is no option to choose the input CRS and output CRS.
You can choose the CRS and there’s a checkbox to choose the extent which is not

Which of the 111 geo algorithms should I use to change the CRS and reproject

[Qgis-user] qlr browser not working anymore

2016-09-06 Thread Reginald Carlier
Hi,

I'm using QGIS 2.16.1.
When I add a layer from qlr browser the layer is placed in the layer panel but
it isn't showing on the map.
In the OGR tab of the log panel there is a notion saying: Datasource is not
valid
Last week everything was still working.
The qlr files I added that were based on a WMS still render but those that are
based on shape files don't render.
Is this a bug?

[Qgis-user] QField error data source is not valid

2016-09-14 Thread Reginald Carlier
Hi,

I'm testing QField. On my desktop I made a project with a shape point layer
made to inventarise streetbenches.
Then I put this project in the storage folder (DCIM) of my android phone.
On my phone I open QField and I browse to the project and I open it.
In stead of a map I see only a point marker in QField.
The error message I see is: OGR Data source is invalid()
What am I doing wrong?
Also I could not find any documentation on QField. Any pointers in this
direction?

What is a OGR dataset? I’m using a aereal photo raster and a shapefile in my

The documentation gives a 404 error. Who is the developer of this app?
Where can I find his mail address so I can give a notice about the broken

Reginald;
I have been having problems with OGR datasets that have an assigned vertical
datum. I suspect Matthias is correct but if that doesn't solve the issue and
you are using a vertical datum that might be the issue.
On the documentation site http://www.qfield.org/ there was amention about some
possible issues with OGR datasets but I get a 404 error now so I cannot
reference the specific passage under the supported data formats.
Hope that helps some;
Tyler

[Qgis-user] QField doesn't see my data

2016-09-15 Thread Reginald Carlier
Hi,

Thanks Matthias for pointing me to the URL of the correct documentation.

I have a folder with my project and data files and I placed it in
/Android/data/ch.opengis.qfield/files
as the documentation suggested.
When I open QField and try to open a project I get a dialog to browse to this
folder but QField doesn't see this new folder.

I also tried to copy the contents of my folder to the documents folder inside
/Android/data/ch.opengis.qfield/files but when I browse to this documents
folder to open a project QField finds nothing inside.

In the filebrowser on my phone I see the files are there (also the folder I
copied previously is shown).

Am I missing something?

Did you create pyramids in the gpkg rasters?

Generally, Geotiff should be well supported - definitely more tested than gpkg

Hello
I'm also disapointed with gptk raster : too slow, not easy to prepare
For QField, we rather use .mbtiles format, created from QGis and the QTiles
extension.
All formats that QGis uses can be converted in .mbtiles, it's very very easy to
prepare.
QField uses .mbtiles raster very well, it's fast to display
Tested with a 4Go .mbtiles

[Qgis-user] scale dependent drawing of symbol with point displacement option

2016-10-03 Thread Reginald Carlier
Hi,

I'm looking for a way to stop drawing symbols for a feature when a certain
scale is passed, using the point displacement option.
I am trying to label addresses of buildings but when I zoom out those
concentric circles keep growing and give the map a weird view.
So I think it would be good if those circles had a maximum proportion or if
those adrespoints would stop showing up after a certain scale is passed.
In the style tab of the layer properties I can't see any option to do that.
I'm using QGIS 16.3.

[Qgis-user] plugin doesn't find exiftool executable

I installed the windows executable.
When running the 'Import photos' tool it gives following error:
Can't locate exiftool executable! Make sure it is installed and available in

Is there another place where I can set the plugin settings? Should I rename

Hi Richard,

you should specify just directory where exiftool.exe located, not full path to

Re: [Qgis-user] plugin doesn't find exiftool executable

2016-10-05 Thread Reginald Carlier
Thanks Alexander,

I couldn't find the documentation because in the plugin manager the links point
to locations which are not available.
Maybe you can edit these links. :-)

It does. Now I see, you just do it wrong and without reading documentation :-).

"ExifTool Config" field used to specify custom config file, not executable.
Path to executable file should be configured in plugin settings.

Please check documentation at
https://github.com/NaturalGIS/geotag_and_import_photos/wiki

Hope this helps

[Qgis-user] repeat arrow every kilometer

2016-12-08 Thread Reginald Carlier
Hi,

I have a linefeature representing a route and I want to symbolize it using an
arrowhead that repeats on every km along the line.
I can repeat the arrowhead on every vertex but that is not what I want. Is
there a way to do this in qgis?

Putting a close button next to it could solve this.

[Qgis-user] show vertexes during editing session

Hi,

Is there a similar way as in ArcMap to visualize the vertexes of a polygon? In

How can I visualize the vertexes in QGIS during an edit session?

Re: [Qgis-user] show vertexes during editing session

2017-02-01 Thread Reginald Carlier
Hi,

My question was not very clear I guess.
I have a layer with parcels.
I have an other layer with parcels that are suitable as building site.
When I draw features of this layer I want to snap to the parcels layer. I can
do this with automatic tracing.
Every couple of years the parcels shape change, so I have to manualy adjust the
parcels that are suited as building site.
I use the node tool, but I want to visualize the new vertexes of the underlying
parcels features.
I’m also looking for the same functionality as the ‘replace sketch’ menu item
that exists in ArcMap. That function allows to create new features by taking
over the shape of the underlying feature of another layer.

Hi,
Using the automatic
tracing<http://docs.qgis.org/testing/en/docs/user_manual/working_with_vector/editing_geometry_attributes.html#automatic-tracing>
 option, you wouldn't need to visualize them. QGIS will snap to vertices as you
move the mouse close to them.

Hi Reginald,

See Settings --> Options --> Tabs "Digitizing". Perhaps for some reasons the
markes are set to "none".

You can also choose to display markers only for selected polygons.

I don't know about a shortcut to toggle visibility of the markers - sounds
useful.

[Qgis-user] show vertexes during editing session

2017-02-01 Thread Reginald Carlier
Hi,

I was able to snap to the vertexes of the underlying layer thanks to an xml
style that was sent to me by Morgan David. It styled the parcels and showed
every vertex marked by an 'x'.
The 'reshape features' tool didn't work as I wanted. I think I could try
copying one feature from the underlying layer and paste it into my editing
layer?

[Qgis-user] Bug copying features

2017-04-20 Thread Reginald Carlier
Hello,

I am using QGIS 2.18.6 on Windows 7 (OSGEO).
I am encountering a bug everytime I want to copy features from one layer to
another. Some fields of layer 1 are the same in layer 2.
As I add the layers to the project, I then set the two layers editable. Then I
open the attribute table of layer 1 and select all the features. Then I copy
all the features. Then I select layer2 and I paste all the features. As a
result the features are copied to layer 2 but in the attribute table I can only
see null values.
The solution for this problem is to save the project and reopen the project and
then do the steps mentioned here above again. Then the features are copied in a
correct way.

Hi Richard,

Yes my second shape has a subset of attributes of the first. In fact only one
fieldname matches with the first shape.
In fact the first shape is a modelshape from the digirup project (Belgium) and
the second is a modelshape from the DSI project.
If I find the time I will test it on linux. Maybe it is a bug in windows only.

Hi Reginald,

I tried to reproduce your problem here with 2.18.6 (on Debian though).
And I cannot reproduce it. I:

- opened a dataset and saved it as a 2nd shape
- removed all features from the 2nd shape (to have a shape with exact the same
attributes)
- openend both shapes in QGIS
- copied one feature from 1 to 2
- stopped editing of both layers
- note: still not a saved project
- and see the right features in 2...

So question: is your second dataset maybe ANOTHER shape with a subset of the
attributes of the first one?

Anyway, this looks like an issue, feel free to create an issue for it, BUT make
it as reproducable as possible: add small datasets to it.
Because as you can see it's not easy to reproduce apparently :-(

Regards,

Richard Duivenvoorde

[Qgis-user] qad measure command

2017-06-08 Thread Reginald Carlier
Hi,

I am trying to implement the measure command in order to show points along a
line with the QAD plugin.
Somehow it fails to work.
I have selected my point layer (editable).
I have a line layer (editable).
I click on the measure command. I have to select the object to measure, so I
try to select the line to measure which is only possible if I select the line
layer.
When I push on enter it says that only a point layer can be used
Can anyone help me with this plugin? Is there an English tutorial or help
function?

Thanks,

I forgot: and as a workaround you can use:
year(todate(now()) - year(todate("GDate")) which will produce correct ages, or
you can use your own python function (expression builder->functions->new file):

from qgis.core import *
from qgis.gui import *

from datetime import datetime
from dateutil.relativedelta import relativedelta

@qgsfunction(args=2, group='Python')
def GetAge(values,feature,parent):
 '''
 call this function GetAge("fromdate","todate")
 in years
 '''
 d1 =datetime.strptime(values[0],"%Y-%m-%d")
 d2 =datetime.strptime(values[1],"%Y-%m-%d")
 difference = relativedelta(d2, d1)
 return difference

Hi Reginald,

pip and setuptools are both available through the OSGeo4W installer. You might
as well try to use the OSGeo4W-Shell and not the default Windows CMD to install
further python modules through pip or setuptools. Using the OSGeo4W-Shell takes
care for setting up the right environment for Python.

Hi,

Maybe this question should be posted to the development mailinglist but as I am

I have written a python script that depends on external python packages
(python-docx, pymssq, and others). When I am trying to deploy it on other
computers, where there is a standalone installation of
QGIS-OSGeo4W-2.18.17-1-Setup-x86_64.exe on Windows 7 and where I have opened a
cmd window as administrator, executed a bat file that sets the path right for
the python environment of the installed qgis, I get an error when I try to
execute pip commands.
I execute them as : python -m pip install python-docx Then I get a mentioning
of setuptools that are not installed.
I tried to install setuptools with pip but then I got a mentioning of there not
being a version of setuptools.
The python version is 2.75. I downloaded setuptools and unzipped it and
executed easy_install.py but then I got a mentioning that I might have no
rights to write to this directory. As I am administrator this can not be the
case.
How can I install setuptools or use pip to download external python packages
for the qgis python installation?

Regards,

[Qgis-user] unable to install external packages

2018-04-05 Thread Reginald Carlier
Hi,

It's not an option to install a virtualbox or other virtual machine on the PC's
of the users. Besides that the script wouldn't work in a virtual environment
because it has no access then to the resources it needs.

Hi Luke,

I have this repo installed:

https://qgis.org/debian-nightly-release/

What is the repo for 3.01? I can’t seem to find it on the qgis website.

I tried to install two snap versions of QGIS but every time that failed.
When will python support be added to QGIS 3 on ubuntu?

Re: [Qgis-user] localisation of date fails in QGIS 3.2

2018-08-08 Thread Reginald Carlier
Hi Nyall,

Somehow my post shows the code but my previous post doesn't.
Anyway this is how the code looks:

vandaag = datetime.now()
dag = vandaag.day
maand = vandaag.strftime("%B")
jaar = vandaag.year
datum = str(dag) + " " +  maand + " " + str(jaar)

I suspect that maybe strftime changed in python 3.6?

I forgot to mention that I import datetime as follows:

from datetime import datetime

In the console I get the same result as from my script.
Maybe I should use QCoreApplication.translate or some other explicit way to
tell python to translate a string from English to Dutch?

Do you see the same from a standalone python console? (I'm not sure
that this issue is related to QGIS at all or whether it's a Python
specific thing).

Reginald,

Using QT:

locale = QLocale(QLocale.Japanese)

locale.toString(QDate.currentDate())

And, if you want to use the same settings that you set in QGIS, just use the
default locale:

locale = QLocale() # Default locale from QGIS options/settings

locale.toString(QDate.currentDate())

That's not correct - the dialog is shown if your algorithm defines any
input parameters which require user interaction. If you remove all the
input parameters from your algorithm, then no dialog is shown and the
algorithm/script is run immediately.

When using the arcgis connector plugin I can connect to my ArcGis Server

When I try to import a layer I get an error message:

[Qgis-user] increase resolution output.tif gdal-merge

2016-05-12 Thread Reginald Carlier
Hi,

I have three geotiffs I created with QGIS 2.14.1. I need to merge them into one
file.
So I used gdal_merge:
gdal_merge input1.tif input2.tif input3.tif -o output.tif
As a result I get a notification window that python has crashed and an output
file.
When I open the output.tif the resolution is only half as sharp as the input
files.
I know that gdal_merge uses the resolution of the first file so I tried
gdal_merge in a different order of input files.
The result is that I get the message that python has crashed on 2 of the 3
trials.
The resolution of the outputfile remains the same.
It seems I can adjust the resolution of the outputfile with the ps parameter:
Gdal_merge -ps ? ? input1.tif input2.tif input3.tif -o output.tif
What numbers should I use to double the resolution?
Meanwhile I used the ArcMap Mosaic to raster tool to create an outputfile from
the tree input files.
In ArcMap the resolution is OK and the tif displays fine. When I load the
output.tif in QGIS only one color of the output.tif is displayed.

Any help?
Thanks,

Reginald Carlier

[Qgis-user] summing line lengths

2016-06-22 Thread Reginald Carlier
Hello,

I'm want to sum up the length of all the streets in my community.
I have a vector file with the streetmiddlelines.
Under Vector there are the analysis tools and one of them is called
"Lijnlengtes sommeren". It seems that this would be the right tool. When I open
up the dialog and fill in the output file and select the streetmiddlelines, the
tool complains that I haven't selected a vectorlayer as output. There is
another dropbox where you can select a polygon vector layer (Why would you do
that if you want to sum up lines?). If I select a polygon layer then the tool
keeps running indefinitely. Seems that this is a useless tool, or am I doing
something wrong?

Reginald

[Qgis-user] summing linelengths

2016-06-23 Thread Reginald Carlier
Hi,

I'm using QGIS 2.14 and found that the 'Vector tool' > Analyse-gereedschap >
Basisstatistieken was what I needed.
I still don't know what the tool 'Lijnlengtes sommeren' does. This tool should
be removed as it does not generate any output.

Hi Richard,

Unfortunately in QGIS 2.14 there is no help dialog with the tool so I did not
get the explanation you posted.
I tested the tool and it does work indeed. It makes the sum of the line
features for each input record of the polygon layer.
I agree with you that the name should be changed, and I am glad there will be
explanation available in future QGIS versions.

Hi Reginald,

Running QGIS in english, you get the following descriptions in the dialog (at
least with me here on QGIS master, in 2.14 there is no 'help'
text I see...):

Sum line lengths

This algorithm takes a polygon layer and a lines layer and measure the total
length of lines and the total numer of them that cross each polygon.
The resulting layer has the same features as the input polygon layer, but with
two additional attributes containing the length and lines count of layers
across each polygon. The names of these two fields can be configured in the
algorithm parameters.

Did you check that too?
I'm not sure what exactly the purpose or use-case is for this. But instead of
removing maybe someone can provide a better name?

Regards,

Richard Duivenvoorde

[Qgis-user] Library for data sources

2016-08-03 Thread Reginald Carlier
Hello list,

Does anybody know if there is a plugin that adds a library to the QGIS

I'm looking for a library of data sources (shapes, databasetables, WMS, csv)
that one regularly uses, so you don't have to fetch them from your harddisk or
open the database manager.
I have attached a screenshot of a plugin for a library I use in Arcmap.

Hi Steve,

We use a plugin developed by CEVI (Centre For Informatics in Belgium).
They have also a plugin for querying the kadastre which is very useful.
If my developersskills were a little better I would try to write a similar
plugin for QGIS ;-).

[Qgis-user] Get the translation of a core string in Python

2023-10-05 Thread Reginald Carlier via QGIS-User
Hi Michel,

I think the easiest way to use the translationdata would be a dictionary.
You could try to parse the ts file and load the values from the source and
translation tags into a dictionary (BeautifulSoup lxml parser for example)
https://realpython.com/python-dicts/

Re: [Qgis-user] QGIS-User Digest, Vol 218, Issue 10 Moving many project files - bulk updating

2024-04-11 Thread Reginald Carlier via QGIS-User
Hi,

Just reading about a script to bulk change qgz and other files.
A couple of years ago I needed this functionality when the servernames changed,
so I wrote this script:

import os
import zipfile
import ntpath

# Wijzig deze map zonodig
startdir = "C:/"

newserver = "somenewserver"
oldserver = "10.195.6.122"
oldserver2 = "10.195.5.110"
oldserver3 = "10.195.5.101"

def path_leaf(path):
head, tail = ntpath.split(path)
return tail or ntpath.basename(head)

def replace_servername(fl, svname):
print("opening file " + fl)
f = open(fl,'r')
filedata = f.read()
f.close()
newdata = filedata.replace(oldserver,newserver)
data2 = newdata.replace(oldserver2,newserver)
data = data2.replace(oldserver3,newserver)
f = open(fl,'w')
f.write(data)
f.close()

def change_servername(fname, zonder_ext, ext):
if ext == '.qlr':
replace_servername(fname, newserver)
if ext == '.qgz':
with zipfile.ZipFile(fname, 'r') as zip_ref:
zip_ref.extractall(os.path.dirname(fname))
qgsfile = zonder_ext + '.qgs'
qgdfile = zonder_ext + '.qgd'
replace_servername(qgsfile, newserver)
os.remove(fname)
zipObj = zipfile.ZipFile(fname, 'w')
zipObj.write(qgsfile)
if os.path.isfile(qgdfile):
zipObj.write(qgdfile)
os.remove(qgdfile)
zipObj.close()
os.remove(qgsfile)

for (root, dirs, files) in os.walk(startdir, topdown=True):
if files:
for f in files:
fl = os.path.join(root,  f)
zonder, extension = os.path.splitext(fl)
if extension == '.qgz' or extension == '.qlr':
change_servername(fl, zonder, extension)

print("klaar")

Yes, I toyed with that, but somewhat painful with thousands to process.

Has anybody scripted or coded something for this?

Hi Tony,

You can unzip the qgz file and change the text in the qgs files. qgs are text
files. Afterwards, you can create the zip again with the qgz extension or open
the qgs file directly.

I hope it helps,

Jorge
