Re: [Qgis-user] (no subject)

2023-06-21 Thread Micha Silver via QGIS-User

Hello
  Loke:
We are
working on a project in Date orchards. We also tried to create
a point layer of tree crowns using drone acquired LIDAR. We
created a Canopy Height Model, then used a local maxima
procedure to identify crowns. It was a bit
  disappointing. It seems that dates,
especially, have local peaks not at the tree center: Some of
the central fronds extend outward from the tree center and
they are the highest points. So we got more than one "crown"
for each tree, and not really at the tree center.

A better
approach was to delineate the circumferences of each tree as
polygons, from the CHM, and a minimum height above ground.
Then we took the centroid of each polygon. That worked more or
less OK on young orchards. But with older orchards, having a
wide spread of fronds, and the canopy of one tree touching the
  next, this method also failed.
So, not
really a helpful suggestion, only possible pitfalls to look
  out for...

Best,
Micha

Hi Loke

Richard suggested using a NDVI approach
which would require data in the Near Infrared (NIR) band.
An orthomisaic would contain 3 colour bands, but not the
NIR.  NDVI provides an understanding of plant greenness
and health and may not be suitable for detecting oil
  palm's.

If you are getting 90 percent plus with
your current approach , you may find that you will spend 4
times longer capturing the additional 10 percent.

NIR data,are available from various
satellite sensors however, their resolution would not work
  at the individual plant level.

Some drone sensors record the NIR band.

Probably when you imported your . CSV you did not define the types of the
columns, especially the join column, so that the column in the .SHP is say
integer and the matching column is string.

If that's the case, you can either reimport your .CSV taking care to define
the types of the columns or you can add a new column of the appropriate
type (e.g. integer) and use the field calculator to convert the join column
into it, then redo the join on the new column.

Dear Viktoria,

I think the problem is with the network connection or the URL.
Do you want to connect a public server?
Can you access the net?
What if you type in the browser the URL of the WMS server plus
"?service=wms=GetCapabilities"?
You should get an XML. Until you don't get this XML QGIS won't work.

To the OP: agreement within 11m for a pseudorange solution is entirely
ok. I don't call that an error; I call it matching. As an experiment,
find a physical point you can reoccupy, and on 10 days not all at the
same time of day go take a measurement and then tell us the statistics
of the data set.

You would think, but it seems that the geoid model in some receivers is
very coarse.

I've found that with a u-blox F9P (and I think 8 series), the internal
model gives me a value that's about 4m off from EGM2008. And it's not
an EGM96/2008 thing -- there is some variance (around me) between those,
but far smaller.

So it seemed like the geoid model was nowhere near 15', more like 2
degrees, but I haven't been the least bit rigorous in checking it.

Still, all of this is maybe 4m, which if you aren't doing RTK is really
hard to discern.

Hi,

Thanks for the precision. So they are basically prone to the same problem
(which is reassuring). My guess is that the true befits is that they add a
compass with the barometer so you can take a heading reading when not moving...
I guess that is worth 100 bucks!

Hi Nicolas. You can set the barometer my using a known point and elevation or by
setting the current atmospheric pressure. As with an anologue altimeter, your
readings will change throughout the day as the pressure changes. This is less
of a problem if you are out on a sunny day with a high pressure cell with a
small pressure gradient. but becomes bit more problematic if a low pressure
system is moving in.Sent from my Galaxy

Hi jean:

Another issue is that you can set your elevation reference point in most
Garmin units to either use the height above the ellipsoid or and
approximation mean sea level.  This setting will also have an impact on
your observed elevation.

The 30m resolution of SRTM data refers to the spatial resolution,
not the resolution of the elevation reading. A number of factors
come into play when determining the vertical accuracy of SRTM data,
but according to this link,
the RMS error for SRTM vertical measurements is 3.56M. Because of
the configuration of the satellites used to calculate elevation with
a GPS, the vertical resolution is significantly worse than the
horizontal resolution. Further complicating matters, many Garmin
units contain a barometric altimeter which is preferred over the GPS
reading by the software. However, unless you calibrated the sensor
at a known elevation before starting your readings, you have no idea
how accurate it is.
TL:DR - the SRTM value is probably better than your GPS reading.

Olá Tiago,

You can do what you want by using select by expression and then use the
count aggregate function:

https://docs.qgis.org/3.10/en/docs/user_manual/working_with_vector/expression.html?highlight=expression#aggregates-functions

Anything where count > 1 should be a duplicate

Count("my_field", group_by:="my_field") > 1

You sure can, you can create a difference grid using the Saga tools.
You also can use profile tools for liner features to compare route
elevations.  One would expect the Lidar to win if it was processed with
kinematic GPS.

QGIS has a range of tools for comparing two rasters. Once you have

Hi Carolina,

The tiff file does not contain the style but only the data. Both
applications will somehow guess what would be a nice visualization of
this, and they take different guesses.

The good news is that you can change the layer style in both
applications. In QGIS you can set it to "singleband gray" to get what
ArcMap made for you.

If you want ArcMap to show your layer in the QGIS style you need to
change the symbology too, but I don't know what that is called. Probably
something called "unique values" or "discrete". Otherwise ask some
ArcPeople on an ArcForum. ;)

Good luck,
Raymond

Hi,
you probably have to install additional libraries. Please paste here the text
of the error message, and check the plugin requirements.
Cheers.

As QGIS 2.X is no longer supported I would start by updating to at least the
latest long term release version (3.4.11 for windows) and having another try at
loading the plugin.

Version 3 will load to a new directory if you accept all the defaults.

I had attempted sudo apt remove qgis which surprisingly said it was
updating a bunch of dependencies. The system did act as if qgis had

Hi Helder,

Which style format do you need? Is it a specific Leaflet style format?

Do you use any map server (QGIS Server, Mpaserver, Geoserver, ...) to
provide tiles for your Leaflet client or do you display the shapefile
directly on the client?

Re: [Qgis-user] (no subject)

2019-01-26 Thread Brent Wood
To add a point, you need to create a new empty point layer and make it
editable, so QGIS has somewhere to write the points to.

If you already have a layer to add to, then open that & make it editable
instead of creating a new layer.

If you are digitising features, you might also enable the digitising & advanced
digitising (if appropriate) toolbars. (View -> Toolbars on the main menu bar)

A DXF has vertices defined by coordinates. You need to tell QGIS what
coordinate reference system these coordinates use.

In general, there is a welth of help for this stuff already out there - Google
is your friend (in this case :-)

If you google for "how to add points in qgis" there are on line videos,
tutorials, etc... should provide all you need to know...

The same applies to almost any task in QGIS, that is how I justy found a plugin
you can install, just click on "Plugins" and once

QGIS had downloaded the list of available plugins, search for DXF to find
"Another DXF Importer / DXF2Shape Converter"

Hope this helps

Re: [Qgis-user] (no subject)

2017-06-01 Thread Tudorache, Marian
Hi Fred,

You include quite a lot of questions.
Changing layer color is done by styling.
You click right on the layer and choose properties. Go to the tab Style.
You can change the color of the features displayed in your layer, the
transparency, unit of measurements etc.

Also I can't see a line of crosses, points opposite the nodes by the polygon
so I don't know how to do this does any know how to correct this, sort it out?
I think you refers to the points which build a specific feature.
If you use vectorial layers there are three types: points, lines and polygon.
You cannot have a layer with mixed types.
When you work with point layers it is simple. Each feature on the layer is a
point.
When you work with lines you see the lines which connect the point defined by
your clicks on the canvas.
If you want to visuals those points you need to have the layer in edit mode
and select a specific line feature, You can see the defined points by a small
red x.
The same with polygon layer type.

Be aware the lines which are drawn manually are simple. They do not follow the
contour of the earth like Great Circle, Rhumble lines. If you want to draw a
great circle line you need create plugin or used one of the plugins which exist.
You have all kind of processing algorithm which can operate on you layers.

Changing the layer symbols.
You can change the symbol but not the layer type. Go to layer style as I
explained above.

Do I answer to your questions?

I am on lesson 6.2 part 2. Though I am still struggling to work out how to do
this as my area of my places layer should be a different colour which I have
tried to change but I don't know how as its shows as green on the tutorial but
white at the moment does anyone know about this? .Also I can't see a line of
crosses, points opposite the nodes by the polygon so I don't know how to do
this does any know how to correct this, sort it out?. Also each of the layers
appear as symbols which I can't find, remember this being in the tutorial does
anyone know how to change these layers so there are symbols. I am basically
just stuck on this lesson which I am finding very tricky and I badly need help

- I use the process extract After attribute value
- Now there is this value not - entire routine is aborted
- But instead QGIS should  perform another routine

Unfortunately, I have found nothing in the documentation.

Many thanks and greetings,

Yes, not likely difficult to implement.

Also a quick key shortcut to bring up the snap settings.

hi Springfield,

ah ok, I just thought this is also implemented in QGIS, but I tried it on
QGIS 2.8.3 on Windows and it is not.
When I press the space bar during digitizing in QGIS, I can move the map
with my mouse, but snap is still activated.

. so I agree, it would be nice to have the same "snap stop"
functionality in QGIS like in ArcGIS or Manifold GIS.

Hello Ralf,

For Manifold, it is also the space bar. Once snapping is
enabled it is then turned on/off with the space bar so it can be interrupted.

You can export a world file with georeferencing information along with
the composer. In the "Composition" tab, "Export settings", check
"World file on" and select the map (I guess there will be just one map
in your case).

I do not think this will work for pdfs but it will do for image
formats (pdf, tiff, jpeg...)

Hope it helps

2015-10-17 Thread Brent Wood
Hi,
Don't save as a pdf - these do not generally work as georeferenced images &
QGIS cannot create a geopdf.
The easy way is without using the print composer, just save the project as an
image (Project menu) - the default is a georeferenced png (png + world file).
Avenza cannot read these, but QGIS can. Open the png image you just saved as a
new raster layer in QGIS, & then save it as a Gtiff format image. This should
create a geotiff of the map that you can read with Avenza.
Cheers,
Brent Wood

I am a new user to QGIS, and interested in making referenced pdf maps for
Avenza App.  I find this app excellent out in the middle of no where as the GPS
on my phone places me on the map.  I tend to be rather adventurous, and often
can find images of maps for places I travel, but not with the geo referencing.
I have tried to use QGIS and was able to make images with references, but when
using print composer to save the pdf, Avenza says the map is not referenced.  :(

Obviously I am not doing something correctly, could some one give me a short
tutorial or point me to a tutorial?

I have attached link of a map of interest.

Hi everyone,
Many people here also speak french and other languages (and I have given him

best list and the nature of the web is international.
Indicating to people that this is an English list (i have seen this comment a

saying English only, others not wanted... I very well know that this was not
anybody's intention.nbsp; Just be careful:).nbsp;

2015-02-19 Thread Johanna Botman

Thanks to those who took the time to think about my issue. My projections
were / are fine, and I only have line geometry in this table

I have been able to isolate the error to one involving MapInfo and Easy
Loader in 64bit. All my original tables were loaded using 32bit MI. Since
then we have updated to the latest 64bit version. Loading my table using
that seems to have caused the issue.

It surprises me that the only program that had issues with representing the
layer was QGIS. It is usually so forgiving.

Helllo abhijeet,

To hide certain columns you need to go to the layer properties - fields
tab. Then, for each of the desired fields, you can set the Edit Widget as
Hidden.

To sort the attribute table by an especific column, all you need to do is
click over the column name. First click will sort it descending, the second
one will sort ascending.

I hope it helps,

In that case, you need to use an expression to select the desired rows.

An expression like this will probably work:

Name_column LIKE 'abc%'

After this you can click on the bottom left button and choose Show
selected features only.

If you want to make it more permanent (i.e., not dependent of the selected
features) you can use the expression on the layers filter (right-click the
layer filter)

You will need to somehow assign geographic references (Lat/Long) to each
address. This might be achieved by geocoding from the addresses. Under plugins,
check if the experimental MMQGIS plugin is loaded. This has a menu item for
geocoding the addresses from Google and Open Street Mapping.

If that still isn't enough use GDAL Translate found on the Raster menu

FYI, if you want LZW specifically you need to pick one of the

What tool in QGIS are you using to adjust the raster? Can you please
include the exact command you are currently using.

If you are using something from the Raster Menu (aka GDAL Tools) then
you need to set the compression and type of number manually.

The type of number stored dictates a large amount of overhead, there is
a huge difference between Integer and Float.

-co COMPRESS=LZW -ot Int16

See http://www.gdal.org/gdal_translate.html for options. Pick the

You must compile gdal with OGDI library, replace your gdal in qgis with
this new gdal.

2014-04-01 15:01 GMT+02:00 Thomas Ferris tmfer...@yahoo.com:

 Hello,

I'm new to QGIS. I was hoping that someone can answer a very basic
 question for me.

Can QGIS display Digital Nautical Chart (DNC) data in Vector Product
Format (VPF) from the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency of the United
States government? Here's a web page describing these DNCs.

 https://www1.nga.mil/ProductsServices/NauticalHydrographicBathymetricProduct/Pages/DigitalNauticalChart.aspx

The Supported Data Formats page under the User Manual section of the QGIS
 website provides the following link:

 http://www.gdal.org/ogr/ogr_formats.html

This page says that the OGDI libray, which is necessary for VPF data, is
not compiled into the OGR library by default.

This is why I'm asking the question.

 Thank You in advance,

 Mark

but with different data ( columns like income and % shops) . How can
you use Qgis to get that Rs between income and %shops?
I can do that in EXcel by copying both columns , rank them and get a
fomula to get it, but I like to do this directly in Qgis. Is there a way
 (not too complicated I hope)?

Hi Willem,

mmm, rank correlation coefficient... [0] ?

it is not clear to me if you really need two layers. Does your (spatial)
data have both columns income and %shops?
If so, there is no need to load the layer twice, but you can use the
Field Calculator (see [1]) to create/calculate the value via the
creation of your formula using the values of the two columns.

if the data is NOT in the same dataset (eg you have a shp file with
zip-codes and and excel file with columns), you could create a join
first between those two datasets and THEN use the field calculator.

but to be honest, statistics is not my stronges point :-(
so please correct me if I'm wrong.

Re: [Qgis-user] (no subject)

2012-06-28 Thread Andreas Neumann
You have to decide for one zone and then you can reproject data from
the other zone. QGis does it automatically on the fly (your data stays
in the original projection).

You could also decide to reproject data from both zones to a different
projection.

Have a look at the project settings and enable On the fly
reprojection. Also make sure your input data has the proper projection
information assigned.

Hope this helps,
Andreas

Interesting questionb. I do not know how, but if needed, I have done
it by selecting the UTM zone of your preference within which you want
to merge together in a map (e.g., zone 13 and 14 North), and
represent

them slanted on the fly. Yet, how does Google Earth do that and get

I agree. There are evidences of the contrary, for example many plugins
that have GUIs that are developed under Windows and render bad under
Linux and OsX.

The printing issue (of large layouts) is a known regression (used to

Sure, I guess it all depends on what you consider to be common. I certainly
haven't seen this problem with _most_ plugins, but it is more than just one or
two.

Recent examples I can think of are the Contour plugin (I think its dependencies

There's also the point that on Windows if a plugin has an unusual dependency
you have to actually go looking for a Windows package, rather than just
installing it from your distro's package manager. And I've tried a number of
plugins with python dependencies that you have to install by manually
extracting files into the right place from a Windows installer package. This
isn't particularly user friendly ;)

I would say many Win users do not report and follow bugs, and they are not
used helping (by coding or by sponsoring) to fix them.

Yes, I guess that's the other contributing factor.

  5. FWIW I get a reasonable number of crashes when I try to run QGIS on
64 bit Windows 7, and none on 32bit Windows XP. I do always run a
self-compiled (on XP) master version of QGIS, not an official build,
but I don't really see why that would affect running on 64bit Windows
  7. As you have seen though, some people report no trouble on Windows 7.

I think these are local (compilation) problems. I use regularly qgis on a
variety of win machines for courses, and I do not encounter major
 problems.

Actually, in the past when I used the OSGeo4W packages I had even more crashes
on that Windows 7 machine, so I'm wondering if there's something wrong with the
machine...

How do I best work with layers in different CRS?

are you using layers from the openlayers plugin? if yes, then you must
reproject everything in the google mercator CRS.

Thank you Giovanni,
Does that mean I cannot load openlayers maps and WMS maps at the same time. The
only option I seem to have for the WMS maps is WGS 84 and UTM zone 19, or is
there a way to display both within the same project?
Thanks very much for all your work on the list
Jake

Hi Jake,

no, it means that the layers from the OL plugin are not reprojectable,
so you must reproject everything else in their own CRS, google mercator.

RE: [Qgis-user] (no subject)

2012-03-09 Thread Jake Maier
It looks now to me that all layers always loaded correctly. What seems to be
the problem is that I cannot get Google Streets or OpenstreetMap to display.
Both these layers were placed underneath the shp and the NAIP (WMS) maps.
Turning off the NAIP layer should activate the Google Street map, which is
directly under the NAIP layer and turned on, but I cannot get it to display. I
turned the layer on and off, and checked and unchecked (repeatedly) the render
button. But nothing happens. When I zoomed into the map, the complete google
streets displays, which is odd because by zooming in it actually zoomed out.
Maybe this is a bug?
Jake

how do I convert polylines to polygons?

Go to Vector/Geometry tools/Lines to polygons. There is also a plugin
(poligonizer) with this function. A word of advice, your polylines must
begin/end on common nodes

Hope it helps

I think you should try using the pluging eVIS

Hi,
for me no problem, ecxept for the type of field ID. It's float, but it
has to be integer if you use it to create the key column in the GRASS
vector.

This is the test command used:

v.in.db database=/home/leo/prove/ table=conc2 driver=dbf x=X y=Y key=ID2
output=conc2

Leonardo
