[Ql-Users] QLis30 dinner

2014-06-19 Thread Colin Mckay
I expect to attend the event, and the evening meal. I opt for the carvery.
If this is to be at the Toby Carvery in Corstorphine, then I can thoroughly
recommend it from visits there approximately 4 years ago. However, seating
probably would be on the basis of find a seat for yourself. At lunch times
it can be quite crowded. Is it expected that accompanying womenfolk will be
welcome to attend the dinner?

Re: [Ql-Users] QLis30 dinner

2014-06-19 Thread Urs Koenig (QL)
Update from my side: Flights (easyjet from Basel), Car and Hotel are booked
now. Arriving on Wednesday with my family, the trip will have 3 major topics
Scotland, Edinburgh and the QLis30 workshop.

I prefer a QLers dinner on Friday. Other family members should be
allowed/welcomed ;-), but I think my folks will enjoy this evening on their
own (let Daddy talk on his QL things) ;-).

@Geoff: When running the QLis25 show in 2009 I had great success using
Doddle to manage attendance for both the show and dinner, including
preferences. It's easy to setup and use and it's free.

In my opinion emails on this list are ok but will not reach the complete QL
community and may not show the full picture.

Cheers,
Urs

I have thought up a good Scottish Menu ;-)

Starter: Porridge
Main Course: Haggis, Tatties and Neeps
Dessert: Deep Fried Mars Bar

(Well that's buggered up my working relationship with SQLUG!)

Best Wishes,

Geoff

Actually if it is the Carvery it will be in the Holiday Inn as we think
that will be the a venue that could accommodate a large number,

Speaking as a Jock in exile, I can honestly say that I have never seen a deep
fried Mars bar, in batter or otherwise,  anywhere but in the deepest darkest
county of England.

Further south from where I am, a deep fried Creme Egg is De rigeur. Yuk.

DFMBS are available here in Leeds aplenty.

Cheers,
Norm.

Evening Dilwyn,

Stonehaven is a place I visited frequently when I was working in Aberdeen. I
never saw one there either. However, that is not to say that there were none of
course.

I left Aberdeen for deepest darkest Leeds (Bradford at the time) in 1996 so
maybe I missed it. :-)

Alison partook of a deep fried and battered Picnic bar recently, in a local
Italian that we frequent. I think the chef did it as a joke. I abstained on the
grounds of culinary taste! ;-)

Haggis, neeps and tatties, on the other hans, are right up my street. As long
as it is not one of those awful MacSweens (MacSweans?) haggis. They are
particularly "offal"! :-)

Cheers,
Norm.
