Re: [ql-users] Request for speakers

I have a big problem, which is a big mouth. When Roy asked me to give a talk at the Hove show I said yes. Even worse, my moles deep in the heart of Quanta tell me that I am advertised as a star performer in the next Quanta Magazine. In general I have been working on an idea of giving a live presentation of articles that have appeared in QL Today. Not necessarily my own work, but for example demonstrating other people's software. We have a good issue of QL Today coming up for publication at Hove, but unfortunately it does not have any suitable material for a live presentation. I can fall back on the presentation I had prepared but did not give at Byfleet, but if anyone has anything they would like presented at Hove - or other ideas, please let me know. I can't promise, but I shall look at all suggestions, Best wishes Geoff ___ QL-Users Mailing List http://www.q-v-d.demon.co.uk/smsqe.htm
[ql-users] Request for speakers
I am in the process of organising the talks at next month's Quanta AGM and I was hoping that Chris Cave would be able to come along and give a talk about 'C' programming on the QL but he I, unfortunately, unable to attend on that day. One thing that occurred to me, as a result of the discussions on this list over the past weeks, was to have a debate about native QL versus Emulation. And in the red corner we have. well could it be you? I am looking for two people to volunteer. One to stand up and put the case for native hardware and one to do the same for emulators. It would not need to be a long dissertation. We could then throw it open to discussion. How about it? I think it could be very interesting. If anyone else would like to tackle the 'C' on a QL subject please let me know. -- Roy Wood Q Branch. 20 Locks Hill, Portslade, Sussex.BN41 2LB Tel: +44 (0) 1273 386030fax: +44 (0) 1273 430501 skype : royqbranch web : www.qbranch.demon.co.uk ___ QL-Users Mailing List http://www.q-v-d.demon.co.uk/smsqe.htm

Roy, Why do we have have a split, I have both emulators and native hardware. I have never understood, why I can not have it all... I suppose you could call it supporting the hardware and software developers. In message [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes SNIP Roy, I imagine that the reason you are proposing such a debate is to try to clarify the future well in that case what about a SWOT analysis of the future of the QL instead of the old debate of hardware vs emulators? I did not intend it to be a confrontational thing It just seemed to me that some people have strong dislikes for one side of the fence or the other. I thought it would be interesting for the people who attend the show to hear arguments (as in the debate sense not the hitting each other over the head with chairs) for and against. Analysis of the future is one thing you could apply to this but there are few people who can actually affect the future either for hardware or software so any discussion of the QL's future would probably have to academic rather than formulating a plan of action for the future. Mind you - who knows? -- Roy Wood Q Branch. 20 Locks Hill, Portslade, Sussex.BN41 2LB Tel: +44 (0) 1273 386030fax: +44 (0) 1273 430501 skype : royqbranch web : www.qbranch.demon.co.uk ___ QL-Users Mailing List http://www.q-v-d.demon.co.uk/smsqe.htm

Mind you - who knows? I think this is an interesting idea and need not be antagonistic. There must be many people - like me - who are interested in both sides of the equation and a reasoned argument showing the pros and cons of each approach would be beneficial to both camps. There are things that both sides can do that the other cannot so the idea of having both emulation and original hardware need not be mutually exclusive. Personally, I love using the old hardware and tinkering, but I do realise that a lot of the attraction to this comes from nostalgia value. In fact, I am just about to move into the QPC2/QDT camp, but I don't intend to leave my black boxes behind!!! ___ QL-Users Mailing List http://www.q-v-d.demon.co.uk/smsqe.htm
