And IIRC he first played it at full volume in his car on the way to

Another famous occasion was travelling back from a QL show somewhere -
he put this toy sheep on his shoulder and the looks (and swerves!)
from drivers passing us seeing this were priceless.

Mike, I've moved over to ql-chat - just in case !

Hungry, me ? I'm afraid that I don't actually have to hunt to eat. I have a
perfectly good set of local farm shops, and farmer's markets which I
frequent when the need to feed the freezer arises.

As for digging a trench - you've abviously never tried digging a trench
through Heather roots, if you had, you'd know better than to suggest it. Too
much like hard work.

I did try decoying them once, but mixed results - it seems to work best in
the breeding season, but then, you're not allowed to kill them then - and
for good reason. Seems that when the season starts proper, the little
beggars know and seem to be able to recognise the decoys.

I tend to prefer stalking them - I've had better results that way, and it's
more 'man against nature' as well.

:o)

you must get hungry, try digging a narrow trench, 6" wide x about
2' deep on the south facing side of a steep hill, put some
treacle mixed with oats in the bottom, and leave overnight. You
will find this catches them, once in the hole they can't walk
backwards. You can then dispatch them with the bow and arrow.

got bored. Using a shotguyn on such a small creature was a bit (lot)
unsporting. I only use a bow and arrow now - makes it difficult to get as

I was out with Dilwyn and Marcel that night, and Jochen too. Marcels face
when he ate the first mouthful of korma was priceless.

.And as for the "birthday cake" we got him, the less said about that
the better :-))

Now you've done it Marcel, the Dilwyn Jones and Darren Branagh official joke
topic of the decade is out.

For years now there have been jokes flying between us over how much Irishmen
and Welshmen like sheep - We've even bought each other some. (Dilwyn got me
a nice blow up one last time!!)
Even when he worked at the BBC in the sound dept, he sent me an audio
cassette of half an hour of Sheep bleating

Oh yes, that was really bad. Worst birthday meal ever ;-)
But actually I'm not that much into pizza anymore. While I have eaten
one or two per week over a year ago it's now more like once per month.
Still I'd prefer it over curry without a doubt :-)

Hehe. No, despite this incident I really enjoyed the stay. I still
have the electric mointain, snowdown etc. flyers. And actually I
should return with my almost-sister-in-law. She's a very big fan of
sheep and that's something you really have enough up there :-)

He he. Wish I'd known what a Pizza fan Marcel was before a gang of us
tried to force curry on him for his birthday a few years ago... Oops.

Then I'll have one pepperoni pizza please :-)

Watch it Per, Marcel is one great pizza fan...

Which proves Geoff's statement... Greeks (or their
inventions... ie Pizza ;-) are everywhere ;-). "Our" legacy
does affect even Marcel :-P hehehehe

Now I heard a program on fast foods and they said there that an American
went over to Europe in search of a fast food to rival the hamburger. He
brought back the original Pizza - a small bread base with tomato puree
and cheese - and everyone said this will never work. They then added
some more toppings and today's pizza was born. Rather like the Indian
dish whose name escapes me the re-exported the fake Italian dish back to
Italy. Maybe this was wrong.

I believe that both statements are absolutely right... Both
products serve their own purpose and both are VERY well
done There's nothing w/o pros and cons of course and as
for example the Q60 is expensive, so on the other hand QPC
runs on Windows ;-) (Hehehehe just joking here don't shoot)...
Seriously though, being the owner of a Q40 (as of yesterday...
don't have it in my hands yet) AND qpc I can tell you that
there's no reason why someone can't have both (if one can
afford both although with the price of QPC where it is at
now... it simplifies the choice)

Ahem. My thoughts exactly.

Personally, I think it is pretty cheap, considering what you get for it.
Just to avoid getting accused of a pro-QPC bias (and why couldn't I

Well, there are also:

Fabrizio Diversi, who modestly only says that he accepts to be a
tester for new versions, but is also doing some Q60 related stuff.
Jerôme Grimbert had also announced he would participate.
Timothy Swenson tackles the task of trying to put some order into
the documentation.

Such as the list of basic keywords. François van Emelen has
offered to do that part of the job - please send him your emails in
this respect. For the three persons who have already sent me
emails, don't worry, I'm forwarding them.

(Lack of developpers)

I'm afraid I thaought that this was going to happen and I thnik I
stated this already. Of course, Richard Zildlicky will tell us, as he
already did (I think it was him) that this was a self fulfilling
prophecy since people like him wouldn't participate under this
abominable licence...

Somehow, I still have my doubts...

Frankly, that's what I had expected. Perhaps one or two more. Of
course, if we had "released SMSQ/E into freedom" instead of into the
licence as it is, there would now be zillions of developers around and
Wolfgang would have to register them 24 hours per day. NOT!

I've been ignoring the "please somebody develop YAE (yet another
emulator) further because it's a free one" as I think nobody capable
of this would spent one minute thinking about it (if it isn't already
their own emulator, that is). If anybody wants a good old QL, take
QemuLator. For the more advanced needs take QPC. Both are commercial
for a reason, because it costs time and money to develop software like
that. Yes, QPC is not the cheapest software on earth, I know that. On
the other hand QPC is now in its ~9th year of development! I couldn't
really devote that much time (we're talking thousands of hours here)
without getting anything in return. At this point I want to say a big
"thank you" to all of my customers out there. Without you buying QPC I
certainly wouldn't now spent time on improving SMSQ/E for all
platforms or e.g. working on small fixes in QPAC2 which I did just
yesterday.
So you see, by buying QPC you not only support QPC but my whole QL
related development work in general. Thanks again to everybody who
contributed financially and morally support. And for being the nice
guys that make up that certain charm the QL scene has and certainly
distinguishes it from most other scenes :-)

Wlenerz had just told me that there were only *two* confirmed SMSQ/E
"developers" (modestly forgetting himself), namely you and (wait for it) -
me! (And I signed up mainly to help with the coffies and put the jelly beans
on the pizzas ;)

Of course there are other activities than kernel hacking that go towards
making the QL a better system and help to keep it up to date, but I do get
worried when people on this list talk about improving Qlay and Qlem and this
and that when theres so much to be done and so few to do it. QL developers
should be looking towards QL *users* and be thinking about how to move ahead
with this. They should be focused, and avoid distracting projects. The last
thing the retro-enthusiasts want is development. Let them have their way!

What QL users want is development. Weve moaned on this list for years about
all that is wrong or lacking. Nows our chance. I know of a whole bunch of
more-or-less active programmers and tinkerers who have more right to be
called developers than me. They should sign up, if for nothing else than to
show support and give themselves and users a sense that they are justified
in maintining their confidence in the world's last real computer system ;)
Anyone who is part of the project is less likely to rebel and split out of
pique that things arent going their way.

Currently were working on upgrading all the SBasic keywords in
SMSQ/E v 3.01, eg:

100DEFine PROCedure Test(text$)
110IF text$ = "": PER_SAYS_GOTO 200
120WL_IS_THE_GREATEST_PRINT text$
130MARCEL_REWROTE_THIS_BEEP 2, 2
140

If you dont like it, better sign up!
