RE: [ql-users] Status of QPC1
Thanks very much for the reply and offer(?) I'd be really glad to return to QLing albeit onna XP machine. I will be delighted to return to the wrangling necessary to get a DOS program to run in a DozyDosBox.. How can I acquire the programs I need? Thanks for all the feedback, Dave Isaacs 1986 on QL'er Hi Dave, Lightining is not needed with QPC1 (QPC1 runs SMSQ/E which is faster than the regular QDOS Driver - IIRC QPC1's driver is even faster as it is written in pure x86 assembly - Correct me if I am wrong Marcel ;-) ). Professional Astrologer runs fine and so do most of the DP programs if you don't use very deep pathnames. (just tested it on QPC 1 although It was a pain to find a machine to put it in ;-) For good measure I can send you also soQL-PPP to grab your email using QPC1 Turbo exists and it's in version 4.20 now and freeware as well ALl the best, Phoebus

Re: [ql-users] Status of QPC1
Sorry Marcel - just thought Roy or Jochen might know as they might be selling it :-)) I think there is a market for it as a way of attracting new QL users if available very cheaply or even (dare I say it) for free. QL2K, QLAY and UQLX are very good, but a bit fiddly by comparison - with QPC1, you run it and you have a QL in front of you - a decent working one with full floppy/win support and all the other bells and whistles, not to mention SMSQ/E, which is now no longer commercial. QPC1 on a CD with a load of QL freeware would make a very atractive cover disk for a PC magazine I think. Whats your thoughts? RE: [ql-users] Status of QPC1
QPC1 was (strangely enough) the predecessor of QPC2. :-)) Basically a much less impressive version that ran only under DOS and wasn't a windows application - to run it on a windows machine means shutting down and restarting windows in DOS mode We though it was the business in the early days but there is no comparison to the newer QPC2 of today. Plus a lot of the newer QPC2 features are missing - such as QPC_EXEC, the DOS device, and high colour support and so on. It would have to be bootable to be of any use. Apart from that, it is something one could talk about. [73 lines snipped] Marcel

Re: [ql-users] Status of QPC1
The precursor to QPC2 :-) It basically ran directly under DOS rather than under Windows (which meant it did not like NT based systems), and did not have many of the extras since introduced in QPC2 (DOS device etc).
