Re: unable to handle kernel paging request - and lots of more errors

2000-09-21 Thread Wagner R. Landgraf

How do I try and check for bad RAM?

How do I check diskspace? Command "diskspace" doesn't work.

I have huge log files in qmail, and it is still not working, and I have
installed it one week ago. Can I delete those files? Why are they that huge?
(about 20 Mb)

unable to handle kernel paging request - and lots of more errors

2000-09-21 Thread Wagner R. Landgraf

Hi all,

I'm getting the message "unable to handle kernel
paging request at virtual address xx..". It says the process is
qmail-remote. After this, the system hangs. Anybody knows what is going
on?

I also receive a lot of more erros in my Linux
Debian system, and I think all of them are related to qmail.

Do you have any ideas?

Thanks

Completely removing qmail and reinstalling again

2000-09-21 Thread Wagner R. Landgraf

I'm getting a lot of errors in Linux system, and I
think it's due qmail.

I've installed it using supervise and tcpserver,
but I just followed a HOWTO, and I had almost no idea of what I was
doing.

So, I'm thinking about removing qmail and
reinstalling again, using a simplest howto installing guide.

Anybody can tell me how to completely qmail from
Linux system, so I can be sure that it's not there anymore?

Thank you

Re: Problems receiving mail

2000-09-19 Thread Wagner R. Landgraf

How did you check my ports in my IP? I telneted the ports from an external
machine and couldn't connect to both ports (80 and 25). How did you connect
to port 80? I'm using Windows telnet program, just putting the IP and port
number and trying to connect. Is there a more low level way of doing that?

Because if port 80 is ok and 25 is not, then the problem is with firewall.
However, if I can't connect to 80 I cannot check if port 25 is ok.

Re: Problems receiving mail

To clarify: I'm not able to connect neither to port 25 or 80 from my
internal machine, using *telnet*. However, I can open my web site (using www
browser) using my external IP as URL. I don't know too much about this, but
I though strange because I think web browser connect to URL (my external IP)
using port 80. So, why the browser works and telnet doesn't?

Apart that question, you tested it for me and confirmed that port 80 is
working and 25 is not. I don't know why, because I've used the same ipchains
command to allow port 80 and 25 to come from external net. I will check it
anyway.

If you're on a machine on the inside and you're trying to hit an ip on the
outside of a firewall or router that does NAT, it won't work. I think
Checkpoint makes a firewall that works around this problem, but that's the
only one I can think of.

You need to do your testing from a remote machine if you're hitting the
200.201.1.1 ip. Is 200.201.1.1 the real ip? I tried connecting to both
port 80 and 25 and neither worked. In any case though, you won't be able to
hit your external ip's from the internal network if the firewall is NATing
them.

I cannot receive mail. Let's say that my internal IP is 192.168.1.20 (local
net inside the firewall) and my external IP is 200.201.1.1 . If I do (from
another machine in the local network) telnet 192.168.1.20 25 , it works
fine, and I can send mail to the mail server using telnet commands. However,
if I use telnet 200.201.1.1 25 , it can't connect.

I though it was a firewall problem, but look at this: I have an http server
running in another machine (192.168.1.2) in the local network. If I do
telnet 192.168.1.2 80 it works ok, connecting to the port 80. If I do
200.201.1.1 80, it also can't connect. However, my http server is running

Can someone help me and explain this?

Is there any special action o SEND packets to Internet? I didn't knew about
that. Do I have to ask to firewall to accept sending mail packets? I though
I should only enable INCOMING of packets, and I though that the firewall
send any packets without restriction.

I've set aliases for root, postmaster and default. that e-mail was only an
example, I've also sent mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED], which is a user
already created in Linux OS. Any way, having created "default" alias
shouldn't I receive all incoming mails, even to root?

Qmail does not deliver mail to root, therefore you need to
make sure you have setup the qmail aliase file for root.  I would
  recommend testing using another user.

You need to set up a POP server to work with qmail.
  None is installed by default.

Right, now it works (receive-testing using Telnet).

Now, what about problem number 1? Why does it not connect to smtp?

Is the ./config-fast 192.168.1.20 correct, as I'm using IP numbers?

Well, the TELNET problem was solved. It was just a
syntax problems. I should use MAIL FROM: [EMAIL PROTECTED] . I was missing the

  More
  problems than that.

  You
  didn't get a 220 status banner/capabilities line when you
  telnetted to the smtp port.

  Something is definitely wrong.

  And
whats with the > prompts?  Smtpd doesn't generate

  I
  don't think you're connected to qmail-smtpd.

  May
I suggest using a cut-and-paste from the telnet window, if you

'cause if you did, that doesn't look like an smtp

There are two problems:

1. It cannot SEND mail. I've tried to send an
e-mail to an address and it says cannot_establish_SMTP_connection.

2. The Telnet test described in TEST.receive
doesn't work, because here is what happens (it's not copy and paste, so some
words might be wrong:)

# telnet 127.0.0.1 25
Connected to Telnet
> HELO DUDE
> ??? ok
> MAIL [EMAIL PROTECTED]
> ??? Comand unrecognized

> MAIL FROM [EMAIL PROTECTED]
> ??? Comand unrecognized
> MAIL <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
> ??? Comand unrecognized

and so on. So, it says Command unrecognized.

If this doesn't help, I will try to transcribe every word in the
telnet.

Just for information: running ./config didn't work, because I don't
have a domain name assigned to my IP number. So I used ./config-fast
192.168.1.20  . Will this work?

Thank you

  Are you running qmail-smtpd?

Why don't you paste us a log of your telnet, so we can see what it
  really looks like?

Testing sending/receving mail in qmail (cannot establish smtp
connection)

HiI'm trying to setup qmail in my computer. I followed
TEST.deliver doc and when I try to do local-remote connection qmail
says that cannot_establish_connections_to_SMTP_server
(#4.4.1)Can someone help me?I also try to follow
TEST.receive and when I do telnet 127.0.0.1 25 it doesn't recognized
commands MAIL and RCPT. I've followed the doc (HELO DUDE, then MAIL
me@domain ) but it
says the MAIL is a "command unrecognized".  I've also tried
MAIL FROM, and it doesn't work. Can someone tell me what is
wrong?Thank you all

P.S.: I
use Linux Debian, and I still don't have a domain. I'm trying to install
it using IP addresses ([EMAIL PROTECTED]), then after
everything is fine I'll move the domain.

Right, now it works (receive-testing using Telnet).

Now, what about problem number 1? Why does it not connect to smtp?

Is the ./config-fast 192.168.1.20 correct, as I'm using IP numbers?

Thank you
