Re: [qmailtoaster] SPF work around? I send using another SMTP
[EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Hi all, I have this situation: I subscribe to this list using my address at my ISP, that is: [EMAIL PROTECTED], then I downloaded it from my office. The problem is: What should I do to be able to send email to qmailtoaster list using my office's SMTP? The list rejects it, something about SPF. I'm guessing that you're trying to send from your office's SMTP server with the identity of your account at your ISP. You would need to have your office's domain administrator add cb.net.id as a domain authorized to send mail from the office's server. It's a simple modification to the DNS TXT SPF record. A couple of months ago it was ok. Things change. Either your office server or the list server (or both) have added added SPF authentication (a good thing) sometime along the way (both sender and receive have to utilize it for it to work). Another problem is that my ISP doesn't allow smtp-autentication if I'm using another ISP. I'm guessing you mean that your ISP only allows their SMTP server(s) to send email from clients on their network. Nothing you can do about that. You can, however, use something like the mailhop service from dyndns.org. That will let you send email from anywhere. Thanks you, PS: Right now, I'm sending this email from my ISP webmail, which I dont like. P.S. RE: [qmailtoaster] SpamAssassin and ClamAV dont work.
I had a similar problem when I first set mine up, and it had to do with my tcp.smtp file not correctly having QMAILQUEUE=/var/qmail/bin/simscan The way I understand it is that simscan passes the mail through spamassassin and clamav. Check your tcp.smtp file for the relevant queue settings. Or possibly simscan is not working properly. [qmailtoaster] smtp session timeouts
I've been having an intermittent problem with simscan/spamd/clamav. The bottom line is that duplicates messages are received. I experienced the problem with toaster1.2, and I'm currently running toaster1.3 on CentOS4.3. The smtp session apparently stalls and eventually times out. Since the session wasn't completed successfully, the sender then resends the email. Typically, it stalls again. When I stop and start qmail again, things clear up for a while, and mail flows unhindered. I notice on occasion that spamd runs for a couple minutes and in a cpu bound state (97% cpu on top). I don't know if these are unusually long emails being scanned or not. spamd goes away, but then it is still some time before the smtp session times out. The timeout is usually 5 or 10 minutes, according to the simscan report in the received mail headers. Most messages are scanned in 2-10 seconds, while the problem ones are typically 300+ or 600+ seconds. The machine is not under a load, except when spamd is running. I've isolated an example and here's a diff of the two messages: [EMAIL PROTECTED] qmail-toaster]$ diff mail-dupe mail-ok 1c1 From - Wed Aug 2 07:32:58 2006 --- From - Wed Aug 2 07:34:58 2006 3c3 X-UIDL: 1154529224.8812.doris,S=2192 --- X-UIDL: 1154529308.8854.doris,S=2198 8,9c8,9 Received: (qmail 8810 invoked by uid 89); 2 Aug 2006 14:33:44 - Received: by simscan 1.2.0 ppid: 8679, pid: 8680, t: 302.5537s --- Received: (qmail 8846 invoked by uid 89); 2 Aug 2006 14:35:07 - Received: by simscan 1.2.0 ppid: 8839, pid: 8840, t: 1.4316s 13c13 X-Spam-Status: No, score=0.4 required=5.0 tests=AWL autolearn=ham --- X-Spam-Status: No, score=0.3 required=5.0 tests=AWL autolearn=unavailable 16c16 by doris with (DHE-RSA-AES256-SHA encrypted) SMTP; 2 Aug 2006 14:28:41 ---- by doris with (DHE-RSA-AES256-SHA encrypted) SMTP; 2 Aug 2006 14:35:05 [EMAIL PROTECTED] qmail-toaster]$ I'm using all the default toaster settings. It appears that successful emails have autolearn=unavailable, while unsuccessful ones have autolearn=ham. Why would this vary from message to message? I don't know if this is a problem or not. I also notice that when the session times out at 600+s, there is no X-Spam-Status in the message header, leading me to believe that it might be spamd that got hung up (or something earlier in the process). [qmailtoaster] cannot get mailfilter file to work
Hello, I have the latest Qmail Toaster install. I just set it up last week. I'm trying to get all **SPAM** mail (between the required score (currently 6) and 12 (the threshold to delete)) to be placed in each user's .Spam folder. I tried modifying the mailfilter file in /etc/mail and it didn't seem to have any effect. I then noticed it wasn't even writing to the log file specified so figured it wasn't being called by qmail. Then I found some other instructions on how to modify the .qmail-default file like this: | /var/qmail/bin/preline /usr/bin/maildrop mailfilter Using the mailfilter found at: http://www.nntp.perl.org/group/perl.qpsmtpd/5328 I placed the mailfilter file in /home/vpopmail/domains/mydomain.com (the same folder as .qmail-default) There's also a 'check_finger.pl' script (included at the URL above) which I placed in /home/vpopmail/domains folder. All three files are chown vpopmail:vchkpwd chmod 600. Doesn't matter which mailfilter I try (the one that came with toaster or the one at the URL above) both completely stop all mail delivery to the domain I set this up under as soon as I save the .qmail-default file. [qmailtoaster] Can't receive, e-mails being rejected -- HELP!
Hi all- I'm setting up a new qmail-toaster box for a client (I'm a sendmail refugee) and now that I've almost finished setting things up, I can't receive e-mail! I've been transferring mail from the existing mailserver through fetchmail, which worked fine. Just as I was ready to make the switch, I decided to send myself some test messages, and none got through (even though I can send from the new server with no problems). So I telnetted in on port 25 to see what qmail was saying and found that the error is 451 mail server temporarily rejected message (#4.3.0). The logs say (names have been changed to protect the innocent): 2006-08-02 20:41:39.126504500 CHKUSER accepted sender: from [EMAIL PROTECTED]:: remote SENDER.XXX:unknown:0.0.0.0 rcpt : sender accepted 2006-08-02 20:41:40.243248500 tcpserver: end 4960 status 256 2006-08-02 20:41:40.243253500 tcpserver: status: 1/100 2006-08-02 20:41:49.089365500 CHKUSER accepted rcpt: from [EMAIL PROTECTED]:: remote SENDER.XXX:unknown:0.0.0.0 rcpt [EMAIL PROTECTED] : found existing recipient 2006-08-02 20:41:56.011975500 connect(): No such file or directory 2006-08-02 20:42:01.678582500 tcpserver: status: 2/100 Any pointers? this is happening for all accounts (I'm not using vpopmail in case that makes a difference). -- D. Re: [qmailtoaster] cannot get mailfilter file to work
Hmm. Should it be in the .qmail file instead? Just trying to use sucessfully use one of these mailfilter files to store the mail in the users Spam folder on the server rather than send them an email with "**SPAM**" in the subject and have to setup a client rule. If there's another method, website, manual I should be looking at please let me know. I've been looking for a while and it gets kind of confusing with all the different Qmail Toaster versions it's hard to tell which version people are referring to when they give you a solution. I'm using the current version. Matthew Decker Dynamic Publishing Web Applications Development [EMAIL PROTECTED] 512-326-1980 Erik Espinoza wrote: the .qmail-default file isn't supposed to have that. Re: [qmailtoaster] cannot get mailfilter file to work
This is one of those places where you have to come up with your own solution. I believe you will have to create a .qmail file in each acct owned by vpopmail:vchkpw that points to a maildrop spam mail filter. This used to be a part of the QmailToaster setup, but has been removed since it screwed with the quota warnings. Erik On 8/2/06, Matt Decker [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Hmm. Re: [qmailtoaster] smtp session timeouts
I think my problem is spamassassin. I turned it off for a while, and didn't see any problem. With SA on, I occasionally get @400044d149cb150d9854 [23954] warn: bayes: cannot open bayes databases /home/vpopmail/.spamassassin/bayes_* R/W: lock failed: File exists and @400044d14d2136c4a334 [23954] warn: bayes: expire_old_tokens: child processing timeout at /usr/bin/spamd line 1086, GEN12 line 175. messages in the spam log. I'm guessing that there might be a problem with the bayes database, so I'd like to clear it out. I ran # sa-learn --clear but that didn't seem to help. There are still a bunch of bayes_* files there, and I'm still getting the errors and delays. What's the best way to wipe out the SA bayes database and start from scratch? Eric Shubes wrote: I've been having an intermittent problem with simscan/spamd/clamav. Any ideas what to check/try? -- -Eric 'shubes' - QmailToaster hosted by: VR Hosted http://www.vr.org - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

What are the permissions? I've seen these get messed up sometimes; they should be owned by vpopmail:vchkpw The best way to clear them would (at least this worked for me), delete them (or move them), touch the files to recreate, change permissions, then run spamassassin -D --lint. Hope that helps some. - QmailToaster hosted by: VR Hosted http://www.vr.org - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Hope that helps some. Permissions looked ok. I simply renamed /home/vpopmail/.spamassassin to .spamassassin.old then ran spamassassin -D --lint. Everything came back ok, and spamassassin automatically recreated the directory. Looks better so far. Hope that does it, overnight should tell. This problem's been driving me bonkers!
