Re: [qmailtoaster] Can't receive, e-mails being rejected -- HELP!

2006-08-03 Thread D. J. Waletzky
Well, I set up some vpopmail accounts and it still gives the same error.
Maybe it has something to do with simscan or the like...?

Re: [qmailtoaster] RBLSMTP after setting up rules-du-jour

2006-08-03 Thread Steve Huff

On Aug 3, 2006, at 2:19 AM, [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

I them edited tcp.smtp file and removed this entry
"RBLSMTPD="Blocked -

Reverse DNS queries for your IP fail. You cannot send me mail."

The server started accepting mails again. Can someone help me
explain why

this happened. My server was working before installing rules-du-jour
script.

heh - i encountered the same problem recently. here's my
(incomplete) understanding of what's going on:

read the rblsmtpd man page (http://cr.yp.to/ucspi-tcp/
rblsmtpd.html). according to it:

If the $RBLSMTPD environment variable is set and is nonempty,
rblsmtpd blocks mail. It uses $RBLSMTPD as an error message for the
client. Normally rblsmtpd runs under tcpserver; you can use tcprules
to set $RBLSMTPD for selected clients.

If $RBLSMTPD is set and is empty, rblsmtpd does not block mail.
If $RBLSMTPD is not set, rblsmtpd looks up $TCPREMOTEIP in the RBL,
and blocks mail if $TCPREMOTEIP is listed. tcpserver sets up
$TCPREMOTEIP as the IP address of the remote host.

so, the way i read this, your entry "RBLSMTPD="Blocked - Reverse DNS
queries for your IP fail. You cannot send me mail." in tcp.smtp sets
the environment variable $RBLSMTPD. i figure you must have been
setting this value for all incoming hosts; perhaps your tcp.smtp file
had a line like this:

:"RBLSMTPD="Blocked - Reverse DNS queries for your IP fail. You
cannot send me mail."

since there's nothing before the colon, it matches all hosts, and
thus blocks all hosts.

my understanding is that you shouldn't need to explicitly add a line
like this, unless there are specific addresses or networks that you
want to block permanently (perhaps you might want to add permanent
block lines for the RFC1918 nonroutable networks, as a safeguard
against malicious or misconfigured hosts - but if you're using a
nonroutable network address, don't block it!)

Local delivery works perfectly, including receiving messages via

In thelogs, when it says "connect(): No such file or directory" after

I have the current toaster setup as well. here is my .qmail file for one

Hello,

I'm trying to get all **SPAM** mail (between the required score

 user's .Spam folder.

I tried modifying the mailfilter file in /etc/mail and it didn't

have any effect. I then noticed it wasn't even writing to the log file
specified so figured it wasn't being called by qmail.

Then I found some other instructions on how to modify the
.qmail-default

 file like this:

 | /var/qmail/bin/preline /usr/bin/maildrop mailfilter

 Using the mailfilter found at:
 http://www.nntp.perl.org/group/perl.qpsmtpd/5328

I placed the mailfilter file in
/home/vpopmail/domains/mydomain.com (the same folder as
.qmail-default)

There's also a 'check_finger.pl' script (included at the URL above)
which I

placed in /home/vpopmail/domains folder.

All three files are chown vpopmail:vchkpwd chmod 600.

Doesn't matter which mailfilter I try (the one that came with
toaster or

the one at the URL above) both
completely stop all mail delivery to the domain I set this up under
as soon

as I save the .qmail-default file.

Can anyone help or tell me where to look?

[qmailtoaster] New SpamAssassin 3.1.4

2006-08-03 Thread John Fernandez
Is there a how-to on upgrading the packages built into qmailtoaster? I
looked at the devel site and did not see a new package for spamassassin.
Below is the changelog for the new spamassassin.

- bug 4941: if the first sa-update run failed and wasn't re-run to
successful
completion, the local state directory would exist, and therefore SA
sees no

rules. now, wait as long as possible to create the directory, and try to
 remove it on failure.
- bug 4997: increase module version requirements for Archive::Tar to
1.23 and

 IO::Zlib to 1.04
- bug 4966: fix major BSMTP bug, which rendered SA unusable with exim4 when
 BSMTP is used.
- bug 4899: Windows had issues with single quotes around filenames so
certain

things like pyzor, etc, wouldn't function.
- bug 4958: sa-update should work on Windows
- bug 4908: gtube.t test failed in non-english locales
- bug 4488: deal with potential memory leak due to Bayes and BayesStore
 circular references
- bug 4862: update macro values in update channels (ie:
@@CONTACT_ADDRESS@@)

Thanks,

John

Re: [qmailtoaster] Can't receive, addendum

I don't know exactly what's going wrong.

After chkuser does its thing, the next step in the process would be
simscan, which wouldn't be used for local delivery. Check into
simscan/spamassassin/clamav. Are they installed?

You might also run
# spamassassin -D --lint
to see if you might be missing a perl module (see DIAG section) or
something else might be wrong.

Did you run (successfully) the cnt40-perl.sh script?

2006-08-03 Thread Eric \"Shubes\"

Jake Vickers wrote:

With SA on, I occasionally get

@400044d149cb150d9854 [23954] warn: bayes: cannot open bayes
databases /home/vpopmail/.spamassassin/bayes_* R/W: lock failed: File

child processing timeout at /usr/bin/spamd line 1086, line 175.

messages in the spam log.

I'm guessing that there might be a problem with the bayes database, so
I'd like to clear it out. I ran

# sa-learn --clear
but that didn't seem to help. There are still a bunch of bayes_* files
there, and I'm still getting the errors and delays.

What's the best way to wipe out the SA bayes database and start from
scratch?
What are the permissions? I've seen these get messed up sometimes; they
should be owned by vpopmail:vchkpw
The best way to clear them would (at least this worked for me), delete
them (or move them), touch the files to recreate, change permissions,
then run spamassassin -D --lint.

Hope that helps some.

Just a follow-up for posterity. Everything's working well now.
Removing the bayes database did the trick. SA simply recreated a new
(good) one.

This is s much nicer. Scans now take <3 sec for the most part, on a
puny PII-266! (I'm guessing they'll take slightly longer once the
database reestablishes itself)

Thanks again, Jake.

[qmailtoaster] SPF: newmail.newdomain.com rejected a message claiming to be from [EMAIL PROTECTED]

2006-08-03 Thread Dan Herbon

Hello,

I currently have a qmail toaster server setup internally that
I’m going to migrate our company mail to. The domain setup on the new
server is newdomain.com. Our existing email server is an external Cpanel server
at webhost company. That domain is olddomain.com. I currently have a few users
that are setup internally on the new qmail server. Those users are having all
there mail forwarded from the external email server ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) to the
new internal qmail server (newdomain.com). Most emails are being properly
forwarded but some important client mail is bouncing when the mail is forwarded
from the old email server to the new email server. The following message is what
the users are seeing when the mail is bounced back:

A message that you sent
could not be delivered to one or more of its recipients. This is a permanent
error. The following address(es) failed:

  [EMAIL PROTECTED]

(#5.7.1)

That webpage states at the top:

newmail.newdomain.com rejected a message

newmail.newdomain.com
saw a message coming from the IP address 66.111.111.111
which is web10.**.com;
the sender claimed to be [EMAIL PROTECTED].

However, bob.com has announced using SPF that it does not send mail out through 66.111.111.111. That is why the
mail was rejected.

I don’t understand why this is happening for a select
few domains. Any help is appreciated. If you need anymore information please
let me know.

I am trying to learn more about SPF as I go.

Thanks

This scenario happened to me too as I migrated my domain.

It was really tough to track down, as there's no log message generated
for these rejections (and I couldn't get the message returned to the
forwarding server).

The rejection only happens on email sent with SPF authentication. If the
message has no SPF authentication, it comes through. That's why it's
intermittent.

As an intermediate fix (can be removed once forwarding is done),
I added a line to /etc/tcprules.d/tcp.smtp for the forwarding
mailserver, specifying SPFBEHAVIOR="1", like such:

???.???.???.???:allow,BADMIMETYPE="",BADLOADERTYPE="M",CHKUSER_RCPTLIMIT="50",CHKUSER_WRONGRCPTLIMIT="10",QMAILQUEUE="/var/qmail/bin/simscan",SPFBEHAVIOR="1"
Then regenerate your cdb file with
# qmailctl cdb

That should get you going!

[qmailtoaster] moving to qmail-toaster from a src install

2006-08-03 Thread Dave Taylor

Hello list,

I am moving from a src install of qmail, using a flatfile database I
assume, to the qmail-toaster using a mysql 5.0 database. I searched to
see how I would go about migrating my users to the new system and see
that someone came up with a script that copies the
username/password/domain/etc to a file and used a script to populate the
new database. I suppose I can do the same thing.

I use vmailmgrd to manage my virtual users. I think it store its info
in passwd.cdb, but I don't know how to extract them out.

I would like to know where else the username/password/domain/etc info is
kept so I can create such a script. If someone has a script ready made,
that would be sweet ;)

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hint: write (or modify one you've found) a script that issues the
vqadduser command to add each user. I wouldn't advise trying to import
directly into MySQL.

Note, since you're using MySQL5, be sure to install the version of
vpopmail that's patched for MySQL5 from http://devel.qmailtoaster.com :
vpopmail-toaster-5.4.13-1.3.2.src.rpm: Includes patch to keep MySQL 5
connected.

Good morning

Those folders should be in the inbox. I tried to add an imap account to
Outlook (I Thunderbird myself). My Outlook 2003 showed them right away,
but they are in the inbox. The inbox is the only folder in the "root" of
the imap account.

Steve,

thanks you for the explanation. I removed the entry from the tcp.smtp
file. however, my worry is, it wasin't blocking all mails before I updated
my spamassin's rules using the scrit I downloaded from the rules emporium
site.

I will read the man page from the url you sent and see how best to use it.
