Perhaps their firewall is blocking outgoing 587? Do you know if they can
telnet to your email server's ip address and port 587?

Can you see their connection attempts in any of your toaster's logs?

Without more detailed information its quite hard to say why it would work
for some users and for some users not...

Good advice. The stock RBLs, which are used on port 25 but not on port
587, are probably blocking dynamic addresses.

An alternative is to install spamdyke (HIGHLY recommended). Not only
does spamdyke do a magical job blocking spam, but it disables RBL checks
(all checks actually) for authenticated users on port 25.

The next QTP release will hopefully contain spamdyke, which will
alleviate this problem permanently. In the meantime, simply run the
qtp-install-spamdyke script, stop and start qmail, and you should be good
to go. The default spamdyke configuration is pretty safe and effective.

Note, clients really *should* use port 587 for submissions though.

I found this behavior extremely annoying, which is one of the factors
that drove me to use dovecot.

The QTP (soon to be QMT) configuration for dovecot allows folders to be
created at the root level, so your personal folders are no longer
confined to the Inbox.

Note, when converting from Courier to Dovecot, any existing imap
clients' namespace setting should probably be changed to "" (nada) from
"Inbox".

I don't know if Courier can be configured this way (using the root/blank
namespace) or not. It may be a courier dependency, or it may simply be
the way Courier has been configured in QMT all along. I don't think it's
worth spending any time attempting to tweak Courier at this point. You
could probably have dovecot up and running in the time it'd take to
figure this out with Courier.

Thanks.

Re: [qmailtoaster] Dovecot SSL question

2013-08-19 Thread Dan McAllister
I don't think your issue is with the Courier, but rather with the folder
structure.

By default, Outlook wants to copy Drafts and Sent Items to folders on
the "root" of the IMAP directory -- only QMT places those files /inside
/the Inbox folder.

So Outlook is set to put the Sent Items into "/Sent", but the REAL
   location needs to be "Inbox/Sent"

The fix is to tell Outlook the RIGHT place to put the Sent Items -- a
change that has to be made for each account in Outlook. (Sadly, each
version of Outlook does this differently, but they ALL allow you to
change this -- EXCEPT for Outlook 2013, which will find your Sent Items
for you but will not let you override its self-selected destination. MS
knows best -- especially when it comes to mail!)

BTW: Assuming your SMTP settings were set correctly, the message went,
it just wasn't saved in your Sent Items folder...

I hope this helps...

Running QMT as a VM on a virtual platform is a practice I expect to
become more common as virtualization technology matures. Personally, I
use the Proxmox platform using KVM, and used VMware Server2 in the past.

We've had prebuilt QMT VMs available in the past. You'll need to
search the list archives for them. We may make prebuilt VMs available
in the future as well. That can require a good deal of bandwidth, so
we probably should set up bit-torrents for this when the time comes.

There is also some wiki content which addresses virtual QMT hosts
(which will be due for updating soon, as it's become a bit dated).

I hope to have COS6 'officially' available in the next couple months
(at the latest), as COS7 beta is due out at the end of the year.

Thanks to everyone for their patience and support.

In additional some days ago mail server was attacked with a relay
attack. IT operator resolved the problem by changing an compromised
password and rebooting server a few times (qmail supervise was locked).

In queue/bounce i found 4000 files oldest than one week and Local and
remote queue have only 6 email. I think the problem mentioned above is
related to the files found in the queue / bounce but could not find
anything about it.

Suggestions? Can i delete (or move) bounce files or is there a
