Hi Drew, You meant you can use webmail when you're away from office? But you can't access webmail in your LAN? Dovecot is an IMAP port, please correct me if I'm wrong, but Qmail has its own IMAP package. Could you try remove dovecot from your server? Resolving inside your network, you need a local dns to do that. Maybe your firewall can do that. If you have, under Static DNS, add in your private IP resolve to domain names. Re: [qmailtoaster] Hi regular maintainace of qmailtoaster server
Hello Kishore How many domains do you have in your email server? I have a server, MX record to my server, every users manage to get their email as normal. How do you set your MX record? I think if you have different hostname/domain, your MX record can be put the highest "5", for my environment, both domains are set to value 5. Both domains will be redirect to my mail server. I have a firewall that will do port forwarding in this case. When any SMTP port coming in, it will be redirect to my mail server. I do my firewalling over another box. In qmail server doesn't have any firewalling. However, you can try some webbased firewall like firestarter (iptables GUI). I use this frequently. If sender send emails to your client, you can check through log file. /var/log/qmail/smtp/current You may test out this few steps like if sender from outside sends email to your client, whether your client can receive or not? You can check your queue mails with command: qmailctl queue to force the queue mails, try qmailctl doqueue you can see mails starting to send with tail -f /var/log/qmail/send/current Cheers.. - Original Message - From: "kishore chowdary" [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: qmailtoaster-list@qmailtoaster.com Sent: Saturday, February 18, 2006 2:49 AM Subject: [qmailtoaster] Hi regular maintainace of qmailtoaster server hi guys finally i could install qmailtoaster on two dell server's migrated a few domains from cpanel+exim hosted email server.now my server's r running fine.but my user's r complaining that they r loosing mail's. i mean one of our business partner send a mail to our domain but it doesnt get delivered.it doesnt reach the server too.the sender doesnt get a failure deamon notice also. what r the things that has to be done when u r installing qmailtoaster like dns server instalaltion. one of our doamin shows multiple mx records user's from that domain mostly complain loosing mail's. i got all the other multiple mx records just now.let's wait see. i need to know the security measures which has to be taken when u r running a email server.as we already disabled firewall selinux during the OS installation the only minimal security what we have is the rules inserted by firewall script . is this security ok for a production email server or is it recomonded to install a firewall like shorewall or something like that. what r the regular maintainace tasks which shold be done like going through the log's to know the error's etc or emptying mail logs etc to keep the sever healthy. please let me know if u have any pointer's for the above topic's Thanx Regards Kishore Chowdary - QmailToaster hosted by: VR Hosted http://www.vr.org - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Re: [qmailtoaster] simple solution for a simple problem
Hello Jake, In this case, how can I set the user group level? default user group level is apache:apache in CentOS. If I have multiple directory for multiple domains, every folders have specific user group, how can I do so? Please advice Create the DNS entries, then create virtual hosts for the domain(s), like so: VirtualHost 208.4.26.194 DocumentRoot /home/webpages/webmail.xxxabc.com ServerName webmail.xxxabc.com UseCanonicalName Off Include /etc/httpd/conf/toaster.conf /VirtualHost And then in that folder, just create an index.html that looks like this: head meta http-equiv=refresh content=0;URL=http://webmail.xxxabc.com/webmail; /head And that should work for you. - QmailToaster hosted by: VR Hosted http://www.vr.org - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] - QmailToaster hosted by: VR Hosted http://www.vr.org - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Cannot send email outside my own server! Thank you to all for your guidance,I started out yesterday with 40,000+ in queue. Now I am down to 542.For the benefit of other qmailtoaster fans...This is my analysis of the problem:- I got a call from a customer that emails are not being sent to yahoo, but within their company it works. - I checked and indeed confirmed this using another email server I also operate.- I asked help here on the qmail toaster mailing list- I turned off the firewall, nope, that's not it.- Email receiving is fine. - Clue from the Gabriel Lai Yong Shern: qmailctl queue- Found out I've got 40,000+ in the queue- They are mostle from a very large message board I host which holds 60,000+ members. The admin just sent a party invitation to everyone in the board. - Analysis from Jake Vickers regarding SPAM, I also checked with the RBL evidence that I have an old insecure feedback form in php. What I did to help solve this problem:- I fixed the feedback forms by updating them to the latest ones with anti-spam - I increased the /var/qmail/control/concurrencyremote setting from 60 to 120- I did: qmailctl doqueue to speed up delivery- I coordinated with the large messageboard admin to fix his part and not send mail for a while- Now after more than 24 hours, I tweaked queuelifetime from 24 hours to 4 hours just to help empty the queue.- Now I am down to 500+ in the queue, I will reset back the queuelifetime maybe to 12 hours. What do you think guys? Anything I missed? Will update you on final resolution of this problem. I did a check at DNSStuff.com, and see that you were listed here:http://psbl.surriel.com/listing?ip=209.11.243.202http://www.spamcop.net/bl.shtml?209.11.243.202Which means that you are listed as a spammer. Since the second link is SpamCop (one that almost every one uses) that would explain why yourmail cannot make it out of your domain. You need to find out who wasspamming, remove them from your server, and on the SpamCop link I sentthey have instructions on how to remove yourself from their list. Thisis one of the risks of hosting other people's websites/email. Hope youcharge them enough to make up for the aggravation! You could always swing all of your email accounts to another server with a different IP in the meantime. But you will still need to investigatewhy you were listed as a spammer, or your new IP will just getblacklisted, and on and on.That will also be why you have 3000+ emails in your queue. Most servers will check against SpamCop (or one of the many others), and since you'relisted as a spammer, they drop connection on you. So your email sits inthe queue, until your /var/qmail/control/queuelifetime is exceeded. Don't worry, it will send out by now You should see send log file I have a client also, where the company will send out approx 100mails in 1 hour. I modified the concurrencyoutgoing file to be higher, so that it will send faster. but, I will advice you jot down the default value, when every mails finished sending, put it back default value. Re: [qmailtoaster] FastForward dosen't work ... why?
Hi Pablo, The problem is, when I send an e-mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] Let me clarify a few queries I have after reading your email. principal-domain.com is your sendmail box? Let's say, if your principal-domain.com is your sendmail box, you would like to forward every client's emails to qmail box? Replace exchange server? If you would like to replace exchange server with Qmail toaster, 1st, every client's email address must be in Qmail box, from sendmail, you can forward all emails to Qmail box, and qmail will separate every emails to every specific emails. I think, you don't have to have 2 email server, just use Qmail as a centralized email server will be a good solution too. What do you think? Please correct me. Re: [qmailtoaster] Re-Building again :-)
Hi Mark, It seems that the GUI configuration page is not installed in your installation process. I suspect this is due to sendmail is in the server still. try remove the sendmail rpm -e sendmail --nodeps then, go to /usr/src(where you've downloaded qmailtoaster), re-run the installation again. I believe it will end up with a good results. Try that... Current-download-script.sh fdr40-deps.sh mysql-setup.sh current-install-script.sh I ran the download and fdr40-deps scripts, started mysqld and set it to start on bootup. edited the password and 'secret' in mysql-setup (password is set to the same as the root password for the server) edited the distribution identifier in the install script. Ran the mysql script and then ran the install script. I tried to connect directly as below and then tried after re-booting I'd be really grateful for any suggestions as to where I'm going wrong. Re: [qmailtoaster] open dns ports...
Yes, your dns query must be open at firewall level. If not, when your client start to do browsing, or your email server wants to send email, it will get many errors. Is a very important port at any network environment. Lynn wrote: I should have wrote: Is there actually a reason to open ports 53 UDP TCP in the (external) firewall for the DNS service? Meaning port forwarding of a router... Routers tend to allow all traffic out, but I can't find any reason to port forward DNS queries into a LAN. I never connect servers directly to the internet - I think that's crazy. I always hide them behind routers running NAT. Re: [qmailtoaster] open dns ports...
Hi Lynn, It depends how you configure your firewall system. I have my Smoothwall Corporate version running, and it's integrated with a moduel called SmoothAuth. Where every users will be given a user name and password. Without keying in any user name password, they can't do anything browsing, Instant messaging or any P2P downloads. Let's say User A, I allow him Port 80 only for browsing. I will still have to open Port DNS Query for in return packet. Otherwise, many pages will be Unknown Page, unless certain pages are caches by the Proxy Server. Firewall system is to prevent your network being hack in. However, I don't think that there is a firewall system that can give you a 100% confirmation that no hackers can hacks in. However, as a Administrator, we have to monitor the activities of the network traffic. You may do a testing on it, without Opening DNS Port for your network, you'll know the results, it returns very very slow. Oh ya, if possible, please advice me on how can I turn my QT to run in a safe port - SSL. Cheers, Gabriel Lynn wrote: Gabriel Lai, The system works fine with those ports closed on the LAN firewall. I just didnt want to block them if there was a reason for them to be open. Generally, you want to keep as many ports closed as possible. Please keep in mind - opening ports on a firewall tends to be done to allow the world in. Its not done to allow traffic out. But of course I'm talking basic router/firewall equipment. The more expensive stuff requires specifically allowing traffic in either direction. Too much work as far as Im concerned. DNS seems too much of a security threat to me. It hands out information. Info that theres no need for the world to know. Same is true for the Windows file sharing ports. All this came about because Ive had to set up the qmail toaster's internal firewall by hand. At first, I opened all the ports found in the firewall.sh script. In all the times that I installed Q.T. (while I was learning it), every time I ran the firewall.sh script from the website, it killed all traffic in and out of the box. My server only has one nic, and its all just standard hardware. Dont know why the iptables set by the script prevents all traffic. I think its the script... I even close the 110 tcp pop3 port now, since I can use the 995 ssl pop3 port with my wonderful toaster. - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Re: [qmailtoaster] pop3 over vpn
Hi, The problem is: They cannot access their mailboxes at our ISP using Outlook Express. There is no problem if they access the mailserver on the proxy box. They cannot access Outlook Express with ISP number is because there's no static DNS located at their firewall level. You can add in a static local DNS at branches firewall, I'm sure they can access to Outlook Express with ISP number or Hostname (if you add it in as well) From the branches, I can telnet 192.168.1.250 110, but I cannot telnet pop.myisp.net 110. Timed out. From Branchses you can ping, is because your VPN connection is established. If you disconnect the VPN connection, for sure you will be able to ping to pop.yourisp.net at 110. First of all, add in pop.yourisp.net alias to your server's IP at each branches firewall machine. Then when you ping to pop.yourisp.net you'll get result. Because of the routing between subnet are enabled at branches firewall as well as HQ's firwall. Is there anything I should do on the proxy box regarding shorewall or anything else? Nop, nothing else got to do because you have map the aliases subnet. Riezal Ross wrote: Can you even connect to anything else on the Internet from the branches? I have this situation. Our branches are connected to the head office using VPN and branches access the internet through HQ's proxy. The topology is like this: branch: 192.168.10.x -- branch router 192.168.10.1 -- HQ router 192.168.1.1 -- HQ proxy 192.168.1.250 -- Internet. In the proxy, we add this static routing: ip route add 192.168.10.0/24 via 192.168.1.1 ip route add 192.168.11.0/24 via 192.168.1.1 etc The proxy is FC4 with shorewall-2.4.6-1.fc4 and squid-2.5.STABLE11-3.FC4 Currently, all seems well. Branches can browse the internet (I fill in the proxy IP in the browser). Also they can access the mail server located on the same proxy box. Hi Could you please stop named DNS Server first, then you try with sending and receiving emails with qmail? Through this, we can trace where is the problem. Re: [qmailtoaster] Delivering emails very slow...
Hi Jake, I'm not sure whether is it because of my DNS server issue. Previously on MS Exchange Server, I configure in MS Exchange with the same DNS server IP.. MS Exchange able to deliver all emails very fast and smooth. For alternate dns server, I configure it as my ISP's DNS Server ip. Gabriel Lai Yong Shern wrote: Hi, I'm using Qmail toaster as a relay server with MS Exchange server. However, the emails going out to the internet from Qmail server was very slow. I have to qmailctl doqueue every time to force the delivery of emails. Per day will have about 700 emails from the users queueing to go out to the internet. And sometime it hangs. So I modify concurrencyremote from value 100 to 1000 under /var/qmail/control/ it seems delivering emails became faster, but somehow, it's still will hang under the queueing portion. How can I finetune, so that delivery of emails will become faster? Can you check your DNS? It sounds like maybe it's having a DNS issue trying to find the remote servers. If so, all emails from local users to the internet will be scan by Qmail simscan. 2) Did I need to add all users into qmail since it's just a relaying server. Re: [qmailtoaster] global address book
Hello Thiago Could you share with me how you migrated all users address from exchange server to qmail? It's impossible we have to add in one by one it will takes ages... I believe if you would like to have global address book, you'll have to run LDAP server for it.. If you want to DELETE messages that get marked as SPAM, this is a known bug at the moment - it doesn't actually delete the messages.
