Your score can take as little as 30 days to improve if you comply with the feedback loop requirements. http://website.email-ethics.com/feedback-loops- here the list I use. If this is urgent, your better pony up some cash to get email certified and pay your ways out of this problem, it can range from 3000k per month to 1.1 million depending on your volume. If you're a non profit you might get away with 4k per year. I would say take your time and don't fall into the trap, just signup for the feedback loop for each program, and 30 days from now you'll see it get way better :). -Original Message- From: Ronnie Tartar [mailto:rtar...@host2max.com] Sent: Wednesday, March 21, 2012 10:55 AM To: qmailtoaster-list@qmailtoaster.com Subject: RE: [qmailtoaster] Help with bad reputation Messages sitting in the queue and eventually, people get this bounce message. shegetta.northing...@nike.com: Connected to 68.232.135.83 but greeting failed. You need to be sure that all of your users (and web apps) authenticate, then they pass all of spamdyke's filters. If a message comes to you proclaiming to be from one of your domains but fails to authenticate, it gets rejected up front. No backscatter, and fewer full mailboxes. Your configuration file looks fine to me, except I don't think you need both zen.spamhaus.org and xbl.spamhaus.org. I believe that the former includes the later. You might want to look into that. It'd a little hard to see what's really going on in there amongst all the comments! On 2nd look at your smtp/run file, I see that you're still running rblsmtpd. That's certainly redundant (spamdyke's doing this as well, and more efficiently), and could be causing your problem, but I'm not sure on that. I'm not certain about the FILTER_ messages you're seeing. I don't know what to expect with your log-level=verbose (qtp-install-spamdyke starts with log-level=info). The documentation isn't real clear on that. Are the emails that correspond to the FILTER_ messages you're seeing being accepted or rejected? It's a little hard to tell since you have log messages going to syslog instead of stderr. I think I got it. I commented out the greylisting stuff until I understand what exactly that does? It was rejecting a bunch of emails? RE: [qmailtoaster] Issues with SpamAssassin
I think that spamdyke is running properly again, I'm not sure what I did before, but I must have modified the smtp run file incorrectly. I put the stock one back and then did the install after removing all of the spamdyke stuff, worked like a champ. I had to manually create the spamdyke.conf file with a modified script. I did re-enable graylisting. Ok I understand what it's doing and I like it. I was never graylisting before. Spamdyke is a great tool. It took my server from running 1.5 or so to .05. Good stuff. Thanks for your help. I've restarted a couple of times the server and I tried also to disable rbls, spf, spamdike, clamav and spamassassin but nothing changed. There is nothing strange in the logs, and I haven't done any update or modification on the server. If i try to connect to the port 25 with a telnet session the connectiion is established quickly but when I type helo no response comes from server, only a couple of minutes later it will respond to the command From my test seems that the problem deal with CHKUSER wich is really slow (from the smtp/current log I see that there is a big delay between the accepted connection and the chkuser response) but I don't know how to investigate further. Are you seeing a lot of paging when this happens? I just helped Gilbert out over the phone and am logged into his system now. His particular scenario looked to be maxed out connections. He was not running any blacklists and was consistently running 199/200 incoming connections (check your /var/log/qmail/smtp current file to see how many incoming connections you have). I enabled cbl.abuseat.org and zen.spamhaus.org and his incoming connections dropped to 25/200 and his server became responsive again. You others having similar issues may want to investigate this. It looks like there may be a spam storm this fine Monday and your incoming connections may be maxed out. - Qmailtoaster is sponsored by Vickers Consulting Group (www.vickersconsulting.com) Vickers Consulting Group offers Qmailtoaster support and installations. Re: [qmailtoaster] SMTP issues
I agree, I think the problem was spamdyke was not able to hand off the email to the qmail smtp service. It was timing out. The only way I could get any emails in was to remove spamdyke out of the equation. - Original Message - From: Eric Shubert e...@shubes.net To: qmailtoaster-list@qmailtoaster.com Sent: Monday, July 13, 2009 2:52 PM Subject: Re: [qmailtoaster] SMTP issues That doesn't mean that removing spamdyke is a solution. I've yet to see performance degrade due to spamdyke, and I've seen impressive improvements due to its use. Whatever the problem you have ends up being, I'm pretty sure that it's not spamdyke. Of course some configurations of spamdyke might impair performance, like if you're trying to use an RBL that's not responsive. That's not a fault of spamdyke. I think it'd be better to turn on spamdyke's detailed logging. That way each session's log ends up in a separate file. Plus you can trash them when you're done w/out tossing your primary logs. I think you'd be looking for a log time between 2 log entries. The first entry would be what it's waiting on. Ronnie Tartar wrote: I cut mine to the same but still have the issues. However, spamdyke can't filter outbound mail. Anything that's generated on your server (e.g. webmail users) will bypass spamdyke entirely. Anything that's sent through your server (e.g. your users' MUAs using your server as their SMTP host) will/should be whitelisted or authenticated. Granted, you _can_ setup spamdyke to filter mail generated by your users' MUAs but you won't like it -- you'll get a lot of angry phone calls. -- Sam Clippinger Dan McAllister wrote: Sam, et. al. I would say that to get the best results out of SPAMDYKE, you DEFINITELY want *IT* to handle the TLS. My reasoning is 2-fold: 1) I have an average of 15% of incoming SPAM that is attaching with TLS (I thought this was odd, but apparently not) 2) I require TLS for my outbound mail (from my clients) and THEY TOO can be sources of SPAM. I'd like SPAMDYKE to equally fight inbound AND outbound SPAM! Just my thoughts. They were free to you, so take them at their face value. Daniel McAllister, President IT4SOHO, LLC Take my advice... When spamdyke handles the TLS, the remote server can't tell the difference -- if it was using TLS before, it should continue to do so. However, because spamdyke decrypts the traffic, it can enable all of its filters (including graylisting, recipient blacklisting, etc). If spamdyke simply passes TLS traffic through without decrypting it, most of its filters cannot operate. -- Sam Clippinger Davide Bozzelli wrote: Sam Clippinger ha scritto: OK, I should be able to duplicate that setup to see if I can reproduce your error. It may be a little while before I have the time, however. In the meantime, can you try enabling TLS support in spamdyke to see if this error persists? Inside spamdyke, TLS passthrough is handled differently than TLS decoding. If this is a spamdyke bug, you may be able to work around it. Enabling TLS support will also allow all of spamdyke's filters to function, including graylisting. To enable TLS, you'll need to compile spamdyke with TLS support and use the tls-certificate-file directive in the configuration file. Your TLS certificate is probably located at: /var/qmail/control/servercert.pem -- Sam Clippinger I can confirm this bug, i've have the exact problems with a qmail patched with jms combined patch that sends mail to a qmailtoaster with spamdyke enabled without tls. By enabling tls in spamdyke the problem went down, but it's not the correct way of work, cause the source mta don't do any tls handshake. [qmailtoaster] Tarpit configuration
I'm looking to configure a delay to thwart some of the spammers etc... I have set the following in my tcp.smtp file 127.:allow,RELAYCLIENT=,DKSIGN=/var/qmail/control/domainkeys/%/private,RBLSMTPD=,NOP0FCHECK=1 :allow,BADMIMETYPE=,BADLOADERTYPE=M,CHKUSER_RCPTLIMIT=50,CHKUSER_WRONGRCPTLIMIT=3,QMAILQUEUE=/var/qmail/bin/simscan,DKSIGN=/var/qmail/control/domainkeys/%/private,NOP0FCHECK=1 Is there anything else that I can do to combat against a brute force email harvest? I see alot of intrusion limits based on my CHKUSER_WRONGRCPTLIMIT=3 config. Not sure if that is helping? It may be a little while before I have the time, however. In the meantime, can you try enabling TLS support in spamdyke to see if this error persists? Inside spamdyke, TLS passthrough is handled differently than TLS decoding. If this is a spamdyke bug, you may be able to work around it. Enabling TLS support will also allow all of spamdyke's filters to function, including graylisting. To enable TLS, you'll need to compile spamdyke with TLS support and use the tls-certificate-file directive in the configuration file. That is correct, it does have user email instead of user=clamav thanks - Original Message - From: Jon Darrington [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: qmailtoaster-list@qmailtoaster.com Sent: Friday, December 22, 2006 2:50 AM Subject: RE: [qmailtoaster] Qmail Toaster Per User settings using MySQL Ronnie, Can you confirn that the logfile /var/log/qmail/spamd/current now contains the correct username rather than user=clamav for all emails. Thanks. Erik, If this is the case,is it possible to have the --enable-spamc-user added to the default simscan-toaster spec file, I can't think that it should affect anything else and think that this would be an improvement to the logging. Might need to add the paths to the bayes filter to /etc/mail/spamassassin/local.cf so everyone picks up the same db. I am still (slowly) working on converting sa-stats.pl to php and was wanting to enable filtering by user but since the current spamd log files don't capture it have been unable to do so with the stock simscan setup. Awesome, got the spam filter filtering mail, at least tagging it with the proper setup via Mysql. One last question, can it place spam in the spam folder when flagged as spam? It is mostly a DIY project. ;P We've got ours setup to use per-user prefs. However a major caveat is that with simscan + spamassassin the correct prefs will only be loaded for emails matching the following requirements: - Email has only one recipient - Recipient address is not an alias (i.e. a real vpopmail user) Because of this, user-prefs on my system are only being called for about 80-90% of incoming emails. http://qmailwiki.org/Simscan/Guide#Multiple_Recipient_Problem_with_Per_User_ simscan_option If you still want to proceed with this, bug me about it and I'll update the wiki with simscam + SA + SQL presfs.
