[qmailtoaster] Problem with qtp-ami-up2date

2016-08-04 Thread Ronnie Tartar
I am having issues with clamav, I can't seem to execute qtp-ami-up2date.
Seems like it's checking against www.qmailtoaster.com but the site is down.
Is this permanent of temporary?

It's been that way since last night.

Thanks

[qmailtoaster] Blacklisting TLD

2015-04-25 Thread Ronnie Tartar
I have tried using spamdyke to blacklist all emails from TLD,

Example

equifaxscorereport@bitt207.wellscorerecordpaid.ninja

I am trying to block all .ninja email address but they are still getting
through.

I have added the following to blacklist_senders file

.ninja
@.ninja
*.ninja

How can I block these?

Thanks

[qmailtoaster] Submission configuration

2012-11-17 Thread Ronnie Tartar
Is there any way to prevent replacing the from email in the submission
email?

I have an email users password gets hacked, and I am not able to see in the
submission log the from email.

Can I prevent a forged from email address being introduced to the submission
port?

Thanks

You know, it just a marketing campaign really. People see this, they do
there senderscore, most IT people don't understand the politics in the ISP
range, so they are forced to tell their boss that they need to pay for this,
and then next thing you know it, your emails are going through but then you
take a huge salary cut. It just an endless cycle. Trust me on this one, do
the feedback loop, wait 30 days, you'll see a big difference.

Or fill your customer in on the extortion tactics that Nike and Verizon use
to score their customers emails. This sounds creepily like SORBS was when
it started (better now with it's new owner). Personally I would refuse to
do business with companies that promote this type of behavior.

On 03/21/2012 11:56 AM, Domnick Eger wrote:
If you search, I made comment about this a year ago. Senderscore was
developed as a money gimic more than a way of controlling spam.

Here what you need to do to build up your reputation score. Signup at
every major ISP that has a feedback loop you will need to sign up one by
one. Your score can take as little as 30 days to improve if you comply with
the feedback loop requirements.

http://website.email-ethics.com/feedback-loops- here the list I use.

If this is urgent, your better pony up some cash to get email certified
and pay your ways out of this problem, it can range from 3000k per month to
1.1 million depending on your volume. If you're a non profit you might get
away with 4k per year. I would say take your time and don't fall into the
trap, just signup for the feedback loop for each program, and 30 days from
now you'll see it get way better :).

What's the IP address of your outbound mail server? 72.29.91.110?

Checking at robtex.com, it certainly doesn't look like this address is
blacklisted.

 PTR record is correctly configured.

What symptoms are you seeing that indicates that your server has a bad
reputation?

I use spamdyke, and blacklist my local domains. This is counter intuitive,
but it works nicely. You need to be sure that all of your users (and web
apps) authenticate, then they pass all of spamdyke's filters. If a message
comes to you proclaiming to be from one of your domains but fails to
authenticate, it gets rejected up front. No backscatter, and fewer full
mailboxes. This also catches a good deal of spam where the from address is
forged with one of your local addresses.

Sure looks that way.

Sorta 'feels' to me like spamdyke's running either in some sort of test

Subject: Re: [qmailtoaster] Issues with SpamAssassin

 Hey Ronnie,

You'd've made both our lives a bit simpler if you'd've used
qtp-install-spamdyke to install spamdyke on your system.

Your configuration file looks fine to me, except I don't think you
need both zen.spamhaus.org and xbl.spamhaus.org. I believe that the
former includes the later. You might want to look into that.

It'd a little hard to see what's really going on in there amongst all
 the comments!

On 2nd look at your smtp/run file, I see that you're still running
rblsmtpd. That's certainly redundant (spamdyke's doing this as well,
and more efficiently), and could be causing your problem, but I'm not
 sure on that.

I'm not certain about the FILTER_ messages you're seeing. I don't know
what to expect with your log-level=verbose (qtp-install-spamdyke
starts with log-level=info). The documentation isn't real clear on that.

Are the emails that correspond to the FILTER_ messages you're seeing
being accepted or rejected? It's a little hard to tell since you have
log messages going to syslog instead of stderr.

Having a custom spamdyke configuration is making things difficult to
 diagnose. :(

I had to just pull out your functions and just put the code in there so that

RE: [qmailtoaster] Issues with SpamAssassin

2009-08-25 Thread Ronnie Tartar
I think that spamdyke is running properly again, I'm not sure what I did
before, but I must have modified the smtp run file incorrectly. I put the
stock one back and then did the install after removing all of the spamdyke
stuff, worked like a champ.

I had to manually create the spamdyke.conf file with a modified script.

I did re-enable graylisting. Ok I understand what it's doing and I like
it. I was never graylisting before.

Spamdyke is a great tool. It took my server from running 1.5 or so to .05.
Good stuff.

Thanks for your help.

Regards,

Ronnie

You'll see DENIED_GRAYLISTED entries in the log, but the legitimate
messages will retry in a few minutes (the length of the delay depends on
the sending server). Subsequent emails from the same sender will not be
graylisted or delayed.

I see that you're not running spamdyke. FH_RELAY_NODNS scores only 1.5?
When that condition exists, spamdyke flat out rejects it (in the default
configuration - you can tailor that if you really need to).

I would install spamdyke, and watch your server breath a sigh of relief
afterwards. ;) There will be a lot less scanning being done, because
spamdyke rejects spam up front before it's even received. I'll bet that
your users will notice the difference too.

rule fired but was not active, sort of a test/evaluation mode. Check into
the spamdyke documentation on that.

more efficiently), and could be causing your problem, but I'm not sure on
that.

I'm not certain about the FILTER_ messages you're seeing. I don't know
what to expect with your log-level=verbose (qtp-install-spamdyke starts
with log-level=info). The documentation isn't real clear on that.

Are the emails that correspond to the FILTER_ messages you're seeing being
accepted or rejected? It's a little hard to tell since you have log
messages going to syslog instead of stderr.

Having a custom spamdyke configuration is making things difficult to
diagnose. :(

[qmailtoaster] Spam getting through

2009-08-17 Thread Ronnie Tartar

I have been having alot of spam coming through as of late.

A common theme seems to be the SPF record is set. Can I disable the SPF
functionality for the spam filter?

[qmailtoaster] Duplicates after changing password

2009-08-05 Thread Ronnie Tartar
I changed 2 of my email address passwords today via qmailadmin and now both
of those accounts get duplicate emails.

Any ideas on how to stop this?

In my .qmail file

|/var/qmail/bin/preline /usr/bin/maildrop -A 'Content-Filter:
maildrop-toaster' /etc/mail/mailfilter

/home/vpopmail/domains/x/userxx/Maildir

They are on seperate lines. Email with no problems does not have the
/home/vpopmail line?

Running CentOS 5.2 64bit.

Thank you in advance.

[qmailtoaster] Spamdyke problem

2009-07-13 Thread Ronnie Tartar

I have spamdyke in front of Qmail Toaster and this morning all incoming
emails were being timed out.

I have had to temprarily remove Spamdyke from the server, ugh, already
getting more spam.

From the maillog:

Jul 13 06:59:28 mail spamdyke[21362]: TIMEOUT from: (unknown) to: (unknown)
origin_ip: 72.29.91.100 origin_rdns: prod12.designatedystems.com auth:
(unknown) reason: TIMEOUT

The above server is whitelisted in my SPAMDYKE config log.

The reverse dns works fine, after removing spamdyke out of the process all
email comes in.

spamdyke config-test returns nothing.

OS CentOS 5.2 64bit.

Everything was working fine for 4+ months @ least.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,
this morning a strange problem start on my qmailtoaster server, the SMTP
service become really slow.
Al the other service (pop3, imap, submission port)
are still ok.
I've restarted a couple of times the server and I tried also to
disable rbls, spf, spamdike, clamav and spamassassin but nothing changed.
There
is nothing strange in the logs, and I haven't done any update or modification
on the server.
If i try to connect to the port 25 with a telnet session the
connectiion is established quickly but when I type helo no response comes from
server, only a couple of minutes later it will respond to the command
From
my test seems that the problem deal with CHKUSER wich is really slow (from the
smtp/current log I see that there is a big delay between the accepted
connection and the chkuser response) but I don't know how to investigate
further.

If you're

running your own DNS, look at your config file and see what

forwarders it's

using.

You can also check the speed of your lookups by using:
time dig mx

+short yahoo.com

(you can use anything you want, I just used yahoo.com as an

example).

This will show how fast your server is able to look up other

domains.

You may need to turn off IP lookups in your supervise script if your

DNS

is slow.

Is

Hi,
this

morning a strange

problem start on my

qmailtoaster server, the SMTP

service become really

slow.

Al

the other service (pop3, imap,

submission port)

are still ok.

I've restarted a couple of times

the server and I tried also to

disable

rbls, spf, spamdike, clamav

and spamassassin but

nothing changed.

There

is nothing strange in

the logs,

and I haven't done any update or modification

on the

server.

If i try to connect to the port 25 with a telnet session

the

connectiion is established quickly but when I type helo no response

comes

from

server, only a couple of minutes later it will respond to the

command

From my test seems that the problem deal with

CHKUSER wich

is really slow (from the

smtp/current log I see

that

there is a big delay

between the accepted

connection and

the chkuser

response) but I don't know

how to investigate

further.

If you're

running your own DNS, look at your config file and see what

forwarders it's

using.

You can also check the speed of your lookups by using:
time dig mx

+short yahoo.com

(you can use anything you want, I just used yahoo.com as an

example).

This will show how fast your server is able to look up other

domains.

You may need to turn off IP lookups in your supervise script if your

DNS

is slow.

Timeouts are intermittent I'm guessing, right?

I'm also guessing that timeouts occur when there are many scans active at
the same time. Can you confirm this?

Are you seeing a lot of paging when this happens?

I just helped Gilbert out over the phone and am logged into his system
now.
His particular scenario looked to be maxed out connections. He was not
running any blacklists and was consistently running 199/200 incoming
connections (check your /var/log/qmail/smtp current file to see how many
incoming connections you have). I enabled cbl.abuseat.org and
zen.spamhaus.org and his incoming connections dropped to 25/200 and his
server became responsive again.

You others having similar issues may want to investigate this. It looks
like there may be a spam storm this fine Monday and your incoming
connections may be maxed out.

That doesn't mean that removing spamdyke is a solution.
I've yet to see performance degrade due to spamdyke, and I've seen
impressive improvements due to its use.

Whatever the problem you have ends up being, I'm pretty sure that it's not
spamdyke. Of course some configurations of spamdyke might impair
performance, like if you're trying to use an RBL that's not responsive.
That's not a fault of spamdyke.

I think you'll be looking for a needle in a haystack.

I think it'd be better to turn on spamdyke's detailed logging. That way
each session's log ends up in a separate file. Plus you can trash them
when you're done w/out tossing your primary logs.

I think you'd be looking for a log time between 2 log entries. The first
entry would be what it's waiting on.

Re: [qmailtoaster] SMTP issues

2009-07-13 Thread Ronnie Tartar

Running 4.0.10 (latest). First thing I did was update from 4.0.8.

I put qmail back in. I did have my timeout set way to low. I bumped it to
660, it was 30. That would have definitely caused no mail to come through
because it was taking just over 30 seconds for qmail to answer.

There was a bug in the spamdyke 3.x version regarding timeouts. I set
idle-timeout-secs=660
which seems to fix that.

RE: [qmailtoaster] SMTP issues

2009-07-13 Thread Ronnie Tartar
Did anybody come up with a fix for this?

Port 25 still takes 30 seconds to answer even after turning my delay
greeting in Spamdyke to zero.

CPU load is .15

I looked in smtp log and when I telnet to port 25 I get the following
immediately
@40004a5ba9bb1ba5146c tcpserver: pid 22068 from 24.73.161.202
@40004a5ba9bb1ba52bdc tcpserver: ok 22068
mail.host2max.com:72.29.91.110:25 :24.73.161.202::54565

But it still takes 30 seconds for the greeting to come up. Nothing that
it's waiting for etc...

Any help?

Thanks

I agree spamdyke should handle the TLS so all of its filters can be used
(including graylisting).

However, spamdyke can't filter outbound mail. Anything that's generated
on your server (e.g. webmail users) will bypass spamdyke entirely.
Anything that's sent through your server (e.g. your users' MUAs using
your server as their SMTP host) will/should be whitelisted or
authenticated. Granted, you _can_ setup spamdyke to filter mail
generated by your users' MUAs but you won't like it -- you'll get a lot
of angry phone calls.

I would say that to get the best results out of SPAMDYKE, you DEFINITELY
want *IT* to handle the TLS. My reasoning is 2-fold:
 1) I have an average of 15% of incoming SPAM that is attaching with TLS
(I thought this was odd, but apparently not)
 2) I require TLS for my outbound mail (from my clients) and THEY TOO
can be sources of SPAM. I'd like SPAMDYKE to equally fight inbound AND
 outbound SPAM!

Just my thoughts. They were free to you, so take them at their face value.

Actually, enabling TLS in spamdyke is the best solution. When
spamdyke handles the TLS, the remote server can't tell the difference
-- if it was using TLS before, it should continue to do so. However,
because spamdyke decrypts the traffic, it can enable all of its
filters (including graylisting, recipient blacklisting, etc). If
spamdyke simply passes TLS traffic through without decrypting it, most
 of its filters cannot operate.

OK, I should be able to duplicate that setup to see if I can
reproduce your error. It may be a little while before I have the
 time, however.

In the meantime, can you try enabling TLS support in spamdyke to see
if this error persists? Inside spamdyke, TLS passthrough is handled
differently than TLS decoding. If this is a spamdyke bug, you may
be able to work around it. Enabling TLS support will also allow all
of spamdyke's filters to function, including graylisting.

To enable TLS, you'll need to compile spamdyke with TLS support and
use the tls-certificate-file directive in the configuration file.
Your TLS certificate is probably located at:
 /var/qmail/control/servercert.pem

 -- Sam Clippinger
I can confirm this bug, i've have the exact problems with a qmail
patched with jms combined patch that sends mail to a qmailtoaster
 with spamdyke enabled without tls.
By enabling tls in spamdyke the problem went down, but it's not the
correct way of work, cause the source mta don't do any tls handshake.

 Have fun,
 Davide

Is there anything else that I can do to combat against a brute force email

It works really great and its been an awesome help fighting spam

 Subject: [qmailtoaster] Tarpit configuration

I'm looking to configure a delay to thwart some of the spammers etc...

I have set the following in my tcp.smtp file

 127.:allow,RELAYCLIENT=,DKSIGN=/var/qmail/control/domainkey
 s/%/private,RBLSMTPD=,NOP0FCHECK=1
 :allow,BADMIMETYPE=,BADLOADERTYPE=M,CHKUSER_RCPTLIMIT=50
 ,CHKUSER_WRONGRCPTLIMIT=3,QMAILQUEUE=/var/qmail/bin/simscan
 ,DKSIGN=/var/qmail/control/domainkeys/%/private,NOP0FCHECK=1

Is there anything else that I can do to combat against a
 brute force email
harvest? I see alot of intrusion limits based on my
CHKUSER_WRONGRCPTLIMIT=3 config. Not sure if that is helping?

One of the domains on my server is get's alot of emails just doing
dictionary/name combinations trying to find real email addresses?

 Thanks

Re: [qmailtoaster] Problems with SPAMDYKE

2008-01-09 Thread Ronnie Tartar
I may have lost a few messages, some servers were not able to get to me with
my config. I had to remove.

my spamdyke.conf file is:

log-level=2
local-domains-file=/var/qmail/control/rcpthosts
idle-timeout-secs=60
reject-empty-rdns
greeting-delay-secs=5
reject-missing-sender-mx
reject-ip-in-cc-rdns

I also tried recompiling with --disable-tls parameter, still had problems?

Thanks

You can also try running spamdyke with the --config-test flag to check

OK, I should be able to duplicate that setup to see if I can reproduce
your error. It may be a little while before I have the time, however.

In the meantime, can you try enabling TLS support in spamdyke to see if
this error persists? Inside spamdyke, TLS passthrough is handled
differently than TLS decoding. If this is a spamdyke bug, you may be able
to work around it. Enabling TLS support will also allow all of spamdyke's
filters to function, including graylisting.

To enable TLS, you'll need to compile spamdyke with TLS support and use
the tls-certificate-file directive in the configuration file. Your TLS
certificate is probably located at:

/var/qmail/control/servercert.pem

Ok, compiling without the --disable-tls, default configure, make, install.
Works no problem with the tls-certificate-file parameter in the conf file.
Just will not work without it.

If this is a spamdyke bug, you may be
able to work around it. Enabling TLS support will also allow all of
spamdyke's filters to function, including graylisting.

To enable TLS, you'll need to compile spamdyke with TLS support and use
the tls-certificate-file directive in the configuration file. Your
TLS certificate is probably located at:
/var/qmail/control/servercert.pem

Looking at the configuration file you posted, it doesn't look like
you're using spamdyke's TLS at all (so my previous comment about the TLS
certificate doesn't apply). spamdyke should be passing the TLS traffic
 through, untouched, to qmail.

Are you using the latest version of spamdyke? Can you post the OS and
MTA versions of both your qmail server and the remote server? If this
is a bug in spamdyke, I'd like to reproduce it and fix it.

Look under /var/qmail/supervise/ at see if you have the submission dir ,
then cd on it and try to execute the run script manually, then

look at the messages the script gives you.

Try also a telnet on port 587 to see if the run script correctly start up
the service .

Of course if the submission does not exists , then all the things i wrote
should be skipped.
Generally speaking the submission service is up by default in the latest
toaster .

Hope this can help.

The toaster uses whatever password you have in the
/home/vpopmail/etc/vpopmail.mysql file. It is one line that usually looks
like this:

localhost|0|vpopmail|SsEeCcRrEeTt|vpopmail

5 fields separated by pipes. I believe the order is:
server
port (0 for unix pipes)
user
password
database

What do you mean by email mining? In your tcp.smtp file you can control
how many emails can come in at once (CHKUSER-RCPTLIMIT), and you can
control how many wrong emails are allowed as well
(CHKUSER_WRONGRCPTLIMIT). If they're running a joe-job on you, the
preferred method is to delete the wrong emails, which is controlled in
qmailadmin.

That gets rather complicated. Attachments are stored as MIME type in the
email themselves, so you'd need to use something like ripmime to extract
the attachment, and then run a script on it to do your conversions, and
then put the NEW attachment back into the email (which will probably break
SPF).

Ronnie,

If you go to this page there is a qmailadmin package that is already to
go you just have to add some flags and recompile.

http://wiki.qmailtoaster.com/index.php/FAQs#I_upgraded_my_QmailToaster_to_the_latest_and_I_no_longer_have_the_.22Spam_Detection.22_box_in_Qmailadmin.

Then if you go to
http://devel.qmailtoaster.com
You will find a prune script that you can set to run on a cron job that
will delete all spam from the spam folder that is 28 days old or older.
I modified this to 7 days.

If you need anything else just let us know.

2. Edit the simscan-toaster.spec file:

3. Build an RPM from this spec file:

# rpmbuild -bb --with cnt40 --target $(uname -m)
/usr/src/redhat/SPECS/simscan-toaster.spec

(Replace cnt40 with the flag for your distro.)

4. Install the RPM (the usual disclaimers apply):

# rpm -Uvh --force

4. Install the RPM (the usual disclaimers apply):

(Replace ARCH with yours: i386, i686, etc)

5. Then following the instructions for setting up Spamassassin:

Ronnie,

I may not be the person to answer this but I am pretty sure it will not
change any of your per user settings since it looks at the header for
the ***Spam*** tags.

Maybe someone else can verify this.

Thanks

Ronnie,

Can you confirn that the logfile /var/log/qmail/spamd/current now contains
the correct username rather than user=clamav for all emails. Thanks.

Erik,

If this is the case,is it possible to have the --enable-spamc-user added to
the default simscan-toaster spec file, I can't think that it should affect
anything else and think that this would be an improvement to the logging.
Might need to add the paths to the bayes filter to
/etc/mail/spamassassin/local.cf so everyone picks up the same db.

I am still (slowly) working on converting sa-stats.pl to php and was wanting
to enable filtering by user but since the current spamd log files don't
capture it have been unable to do so with the stock simscan setup.

The following really helped me, you need to recompile simscan. Quinn really
helped me out on this one, I'm just pasting what he sent me.

I finally got it up and going. The issue is that simscan is not compiled to
pass the username to spamassassin. You have to follow the following steps.

So you're still in? I'm in a rush out of the office, but here are
some quick steps:

=
REBUILDING SIMSCAN RPMs TO SUPPORT PER-USER SPAMC INVOCATION:
=

1. Install the RPMS files from simscan-toaster-3.1.7-1.3.6.src.rpm:

# rpm -Uvh simscan-toaster-3.1.7-1.3.6.src.rpm

2. Edit the simscan-toaster.spec file:

# vi /usr/src/redhat/SPECS/simscan-toaster.spec

You can change the configure options at around line 434. You will
only need to set --enable-spamc-user option. Here is this part of my
simscan-toaster.spec file:

   --enable-user=clamav \
   --enable-attach \
   --enable-ripmime=/usr/bin/ripmime \
   --enable-per-domain \
   --enable-spam \
   --enable-spam-hits=20 \
   --enable-spamc-user \
   --enable-received \
   --enable-clamavdb-path=/usr/share/clamav \
   --enable-custom-smtp-reject

/usr/src/redhat/RPMS/ARCH/simscan-toaster-VERSION.ARCH.rpm

Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong? I don't believe spamassassin is
using the database. When I use the spamc utility I get a response saying
that my threshold is 4.0 which is what I have in the database. When I send
a mail to myself from an outside source, I get a threshold of 5.0. Details
are below.

Gilbert

Server: Centos4.4
Mail: QMAIL-TOASTER

I want to use MySQL with the server to allow users the ability to customize
spamassassin. http://wiki.apache.org/spamassassin/UsingSQL

I added the spamassassin commands I think necessary to the file
/etc/mail/spamassassin/local.cf

 user_scores_dsn DBI:mysql:spamassassin:127.0.0.1
 user_scores_sql_password
 user_scores_sql_username spamassassin
user_scores_sql_custom_query SELECT preference, value FROM _TABLE_
WHERE \
username = _USERNAME_ OR username =
'$GLOBAL' \
  OR username = CONCAT('%',_DOMAIN_) ORDER
BY username ASC

the mysql user spamassassin has only SELECT privileges

I have added a -q to the spamd service in /var/qmail/supervise/spamd exec
/usr/bin/spamd -q -x -u vpopmail -s stderr 21

I run the command echo -e From: user\nTo:user\Subject: Test\n\n | spamc
-u '[EMAIL PROTECTED]'' to check if spamd is using my SQL rule
set for [EMAIL PROTECTED] and the response reports a required
score of 4.0 which is the same as what I have in the SQL database.

X-Spam-Status: No, score=2.8 required=4.0
tests=EMPTY_MESSAGE,MISSING_SUBJECT,
   NO_RECEIVED,NO_RELAYS autolearn=no version=3.1.7

When I send a test message from my yahoo account to that same user, the
header reports a 5.0.

X-Spam-Status: No, score=0.0 required=5.0 tests=HTML_MESSAGE

You need to do step 1 in Quinn's instructions. Even though you've installed
the package, when you use the normal procedure for installation, this file
is removed at the end as it's only used for building the binary rpm.

Ronnie

Yes, there are docs, but here-and-there. It is mostly a DIY project. ;P

We've got ours setup to use per-user prefs. However a major caveat is that
with simscan + spamassassin the correct prefs will only be loaded for emails
matching the following requirements:

- Email has only one recipient
- Recipient address is not an alias (i.e. a real vpopmail user)

Because of this, user-prefs on my system are only being called for about
80-90% of incoming emails.

http://qmailwiki.org/Simscan/Guide#Multiple_Recipient_Problem_with_Per_User_
simscan_option

If you still want to proceed with this, bug me about it and I'll update the
wiki with simscam + SA + SQL presfs.
