well, prefer a back-recliner and that would fit a 6ft 200lb quad. Stable leg
rests no head-rest, as long as it's nnot really slow. It's just a backup.

I think mindset is most important. I was injured in '68, went into a nursing

Does mind-set blossom into accomplishments, or did the existence of
security, finance and support give way to success, independence, and
accomplishment, even if success is the same as the first go around of
independence when young striking out alone in life ?

Christianity says to give way to the spirit and grace then all things will
come. Predicaments & disasters, or worse is nothing at all coming into a
disabled person's life, as the out come of waiting for a life of satisfaction
or an opportunity to enter. 15 years post and trrying to do all things
correct, and still waiting on life, a chance, even relationships to begin.
This fear scares me more than being a C/5 ever did. Still quizzical how to
begin, I'd of thought the mystery would have been lived already.

Re: [QUAD-L] Question of Independence Survival

I personally believe it's a combination of the two, but mindset can
sometimes lead to financial independence and therefore the ability to have
the means to attempt to this. However, this is not the case in all
situations. There are tons of people that have the proper mindset and
ability, but still haven't yet been able to achieve the financial
independence that would allow them to successfully live on their own.

Just my two cents, don't blast me.

get that with my tongue and let the medicine fall into my mouth.

In my particular case, however, I have a really good support system with

FW: [QUAD-L] How One Can live Alone

2007-06-10 Thread Merrill Burghardt
My MO for years has been a reversal where I move in with my caregiver after
locating them through news paper ads. Great solution, especially when a
health issue kept me from being what I could for years. Problem here is you
cannot fire them. My gut feeling says I will have a more fulfilled life on
my own again. Perhaps my recently resolved health issue of years brain
washed me or robbed me of independence confidence in myself.

My belief is with enough money and support, anything is possible for me. In
my day when ambulatory, a strong spirit with much grace saw me through near
anything. I miss this the most of all my losses. I sure respect those here
who have accomplished and made something anew in their lives opposed to
adapting to it.

  Hi Everyone,
Oh brother I could tell you the nites do get rough sometimes. I would love an
environmental control unit but they are too expensive.
After living in a Nursing Home for 5-1/2yrs, you would sacrifice a little
too. I moved out of the NH in 99 & am happy as can be! At that time, my
children were NO support, they did not want me to move, but as stuborn as I am
I said tuff I'm doing it anyway. My friends were very helpful & good staff from
my healthcare agency.
I now have a KCI bed, but the mattress is deflated right now until I get it
fixed, in the meantime I am using my old lumex air flow mattress on top of the
KCI Bed. The KCI Bed is great when it works because it turns me back & forth. I
have a pillow switch button from lifeline. I have my tv remote, mouthstick
holder & stick on the side of the bed that I am laying towards.
Now my kids are more supportive, if they can be reached & they do not want me
to go back to a NH, they love it here.

Sure, This is long overdue. I did not think there were any females who

Ten months ago while having a seizure I fell (about 3 feet) into my garden.
Instantly I was aware of the lack of feeling from my chest down. This will
give you an idea of my married life... I was more concerned that my
neighbor found my keys and locked up my house before I was loaded onto the
ambulance. Long story short, I was flown to Hershey Medical Center. Was
there 3 months and was discharged. My husband could not cope with the
"role reversal". As a result I am now living with my mother and going
