That's a definite ditto here. I think I've said it before, but when the
media ceased looking at me as an interesting person to interview for their
newspapers and started taking me seriously, it was all I can ask for. At the
time I was on the Board of Directors for a major homeowners association here in
the Tampa area. It was great to have people view me as an equal to everyone
else and not as some anomaly.

Re: Fwd: FW: [QUAD-L] horrific 4 months

2007-09-08 Thread Quadius
Stacy,
My heart goes out to you. I thought I was having bad luck until I read your
recent encounters. I am also having bowel problems that I believe are the
result of overzealous antibiotic treatment. I had two lesions which opened
up on my chest for no apparent reason and my doctor thought it was a
bacterial infection. I went on a pretty basic antibiotic and this caused
severe problems with my bowels. It has been around three months I am still
having difficulties getting back to normal.

Silas and John are right on target with the Acidophilus. My doctor actually
prescribe this when I was in for my colonoscopy in July. When I left the
hospital I went by GNC and purchased a couple bottles of the type for
individuals that have lactose intolerance. I have another bottle I
purchased from Sam's Club. It has been a long haul over the last few
months, but I am slowly but surely getting better. Hopefully you will also.
Good luck and I'll be thinking of you.

Julie,
I occasionally have this problem, but it's not high enough to cause worry
most of the time. It is only started happening since I have had bowel
problems over the last three or four months. In my case it might be some
possible pain issues which are triggering minor A.D., but it always seems to
last for a short amount of time.

Hopefully we'll figure it out and be able to rectify the problem.
Good luck,
Quadius

Re: [QUAD-L] Potassium

2007-09-08 Thread Quadius
I have pretty low potassium all of the time, but it doesn't require
supplements. It's right on the borderline.

The reason mine has low is because I drink significant amounts of water. It
keeps my sodium and potassium level lower than normal. Bananas do seem to
help a little bit, but I am sure your doctor probably knows more than I do.

2007-09-08 Thread wheelchair

** See what's new at http://www.aol.com
---BeginMessage---
W, please post the following to the list if you would:

Being VERY low on potassium is a dangerous thing. Besides sodium, it is
the second positive ion in the body and extremely important for many of
the vital organs.

In 1997 when I got bronchitis. because I had such a hard time coughing
.I was using my albuterol inhaler many many times a day. I finally had
to go to the emergency room to get an x-ray to rule out and ammonia. As
I was in the x-ray room. a nurse came running in with two of the biggest
pills I had ever seen in my life (and by then I had seen plenty) saying
that I had to take them right away. I asked her why and she told me
that my blood work had just come back and I was very low on potassium.

I guess it scares them so much that they could not even wait until the
x-ray was finished!

On another potassium related topic. I just had the strangest thing
happen to me less than a year ago. I had been battling constant urinary
tract infections for years and finally had some big boulders removed
from the bladder itself a year ago this past May. My doctor and I
thought that would solve the problem. Unfortunately, I kept having
chronic UTIs.

Someone here had suggested the medication Mandelamine (I think it was)
as sort of a prophylactic against UTIs. Anyway, one day my husband and
I were reading about the medication on one particular site and on that
one site. a paragraph glared at us. It said that one could not take
this medication if they could not get their urine pH to stay at a 6 or
lower. More acidic in other words. Up till then I could not get my
urine pH at that ideal number by trying cranberry juice, cranberry
supplements, etc. etc. to get it that way. The more acidic the urine.
the last chance for bugs to grow. I have always known that.

Anyway, I had been eating a banana every single day for a long long
time. My husband boinked himself on the forehead with the palm of his
hand as he read that paragraph. To make a long story short. I stopped
eating the bananas and I have not had a bladder infection since! Along
with keeping my urine Ph around the ideal number 6.

Who would ever have thought that too many bananas could contribute to
increased bladder infections? But, when you do some in-depth reading
about potassium. it talks a lot about potassium and the role it plays
with kidney function, etc. etc. I told my urologist and she was also
glad that we found an answer to my problem that had plagued me for
almost 7 years.

That is the second time that the Internet has helped me more than
greatly when even the doctors were without answers. I love the program
Mystery Diagnosis on the Discovery Health Channel. It portrays what
had happened to me so many times over the years. having all kinds of
symptoms and the doctors can help you either because of laziness or
incompetence.

The more you know. :-)

I forgot all about those old regular members. I know that at one time we
had talked about what happened to them. does anyone know?

I can't believe that this is my 12th year on the list as it is!

(please forward this to the list if you would Eric)

Yes, I miss the girls too Jerry. Dianna knows about Jerry, right?
Yes, I keep in contact with him. He's in a nursing home in Madison, Ohio.
Helped his spirits a bit when he got his own room. (I'm happy for that.)
Speaking of football seson, I'll have to drop him a line to see what he thinks
of
our Browns this year?
Michigan is off to a bad start sorry Dave. :-)
Maybe the Buckeyes will do it this year!!

[QUAD-L] some questions...

2007-09-08 Thread Danny Espinoza
1. What kind of computer setups do all you have?

2. How often do all you deal with infections and what tips can you
provide?

3. How often do you deal with AD?

4. What options do my fiancé and I have for procreation? Sex?

5. What is there to do for fun? I’ve turned into quite the hermit…

6. I’ve been told I shouldn’t had lived “Thank you family for not
pulling the plug” is that common?

7. Is there a better way to use a computer other than mouth controlled
joysticks and speech recognition?

How many of you had “like me“ a TBI?
