[QUAD-L] Bad Night, pain, anxiery
Bad night for me. Started with my b-program that did not go well. Everything too firm and all the dig-stems just got me all sweating, and not feeling well from I assume mild AD. I didn't go / empty enough so I was going to try again in the morning. But at 3am I woke-up overheated. Then of course I started into the anxiety thing. Not enough air, what if this, what if that. I took something for it Lorazepam 0.5 mg. But not sure it helps a lot. I was told there are better meds for it if you need to take it all the time, but if you only need it now and then, it's a good one to use. I ended up getting out of bed at 4am. Pain, Pain meds causing constipation, and bowel-program, seen to be the cause of my anxiety. The sweating and long dig-stems really take a lot out of me. But I can't go without the pain meds. I spasm so bad and my chest hurts to breath. But I'm up so high now on my MS-Contin. Maybe it's time for the Pain Pump and or a Colostomy. Can't you still get constipated if you have a Colostomy? Is it true you still need to do mini bowel programs even with a Colostomy just to clean out the rectum area I have do things to make life start being easier in these areas. Greg

Hi Greg, Sorry to read of your pain, discomfort and pan. Whatever you chose to do, make sure that you talk with your primary doctor who is familiar with your medical history, to determine the various courses of action. Re: [QUAD-L] Neck! Syrinix question?
Hi, I've been a quad for almost 10 1/2 years now... about 8 years ago my doctors discovered I had a Sirinx. I have done pretty well until January of last year2007--since then my pain levels have increased, and I have bad pain in my lower gut area and bad pain and heaviness in my left shoulder and arm. Also I always have the burning, tingling and numbness thru-out my body that most quads have . I take pain meds like vicodin a lot more often than in the past. At night like Lori and Ron, I also take elavil- ( amitriptylene ) to help me sleep. At times I also take lorazapam. About 2 years ago , I became a diabetic and must take diabetes pill twice a day to keep blood sugar under control. My doctors told me that I have Double Trouble being a diabetic and a syrinx quad because both continue to cause more and more nerve damage and circulation problems. At times I wonder if the pain may become overwhelming in the future but try not to dwell on that too much, I figure these human bodies were only made to last only so long anyhow ;-) Like most of you, I just do my best to enjoy life and take things one day at a time. Dan H. C-6 post 10 + yrs. D. B. [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Having had a syrinix for over 6 years I've made a choice not to have a surgery that more then likely will just end up in failure. I would like to hear more from any of you that have or had a syrinix and what kind of pain you have. The pain that I've is a constant pins a needles feeling from mid chest area out my arms and finger tips to my toes. A feeling like someone has a vice grip on my groin area all the way up to my mid stomach area all the way around to my back. The pain med that has helped me is 2700 mg of neurontin a day and two darvacet at night. These two drugs seem to keep my pain on a even level with no spikes As far as my bowel and bladder issues I'm doing pretty good with both. However there are times that the darvacet leaves me a little constipated I use a magic bullet to help move things along. Living with my choice has made life difficult for me since I'm confined to my wheelchair, home-bound and dependant on my wife for my care full time. This at times creates a lot of friction between us but after 28 years of marriage we have learned to go to neutral corners and after a little time things get better. So I'd appreciate any of you that have dealt with the experience good or bad of dealing with a syrninix to please share your own experiences. This hopefully will help others. Re: [QUAD-L] Old-timers and newcomers_Checking in
I found the list initially in 97 or 98. I was on the list for a couple of years and then only lurked for about three or four years. Over the last two years I have been actively participating and lurking off and on. It used to be quite a bit to handle when I had it going to my home computer or my yahoo e-mail address, but once I started using Gmail exclusively for this list, it became significantly easier for me to look at all of the subjects. This list has been invaluable to me over the years and is often a crutch which I lean on heavily. Thanks everyone. Quadius On 12/31/07, Lori Michaelson [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Hey... c I can dictate faster than I could type, however, I have found that if you aren't a good orator or meticulous about making corrections, it is not the most accurate thing in the world. If you have some mobility and are able to type a little bit, I would recommend going with the cheaper version from one of the local stores. If you need entirely hands-free, then you might want to think about the professional, but it is definitely expensive. Quadius On 1/7/08, Dan [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Yikes! [QUAD-L] Diverticulitis
Well, I have been suffering with bowel problems often on since July. It seems as if I need to defecate so often it is quite disconcerting, at least it feels that way. I have also had a problem with the stool being too loose. My doctor suggested using oxybutynin after my bowel programs to eliminate some of the spasms in my bowels and that seems to have worked pretty well. Unfortunately I still have a tremendous amount of cramps often on and it is difficult for me to plan much of anything any longer. After my fifth visit to the doctor, he finally realized that I have diverticulitis which was discovered in my colonoscopy back in July. You know what happens when you assume. Well he apologized because he had assumed that I was told by the doctor in charge of the colonoscopy that I had diverticulitis. Anyway, I have modified my diet somewhat and this has helped for the majority of the time. Does anybody else on here suffer from diverticulitis and if so what type of things have you eliminated from your diet. So far I have tried to get away from anything that has nuts, seeds, and I most definitely cannot be grapes, strawberries, cherries, and some other things I'm forgetting right now. Quadius

Re: [QUAD-L] Cold? I would suggest these!
I look for most anything to keep warm on those few days when it is terrible here. I really feel for many of you who live in areas where it gets extremely cold. I feel awful when it gets below 68° outside. Last week we had about three days they were pretty rough and some of my outdoor plants didn't make it through the freeze. Today it's back up to 83° and now I need to worry about making sure I don't come down with a cold because of the huge variation between temperatures. I'm not complaining. Believe me, it's wonderful riding around in my shorts today, especially knowing that in three or four days I'll probably be bundled back up again. Take care everyone and stay warm. Quadius On 1/2/08, Lori Michaelson [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: For those of you who are out there in states that are bitter cold (I see it is barely in the teens in Chicago today) or get cold in the house like I do even though I live in southern Arizona... Prior to nine years ago... fashion was very important to me and I would not be caught dead in sweatpants or anything other than nice jeans, nice shoes, matching this and that, etc. etc. etc.. But then warmth, necessity and age allowed me to change my wardrobe somewhat. In 1997 my feet and ankles began swelling like the sizes of big potatoes. I had to stop wearing tennis shoes and turned to other shoes so I would not get pressure because of my fat feet not fitting in anything. Further... it seemed as time goes on... the colder I would get very easily. Anyway... I wanted to attest that the following Tempur-Pedic Foot Comforters are very, very nice! I have been wearing sandals of some sort over the last seven years and in the winter time I put socks or colored stockings on and then the sandals. At first I thought that they would look too big or out of place but they are actually pretty stylish. The ones that I have are very dark navy blue (that I can only tell when I put them on with my black pants) and are so plush that I just put my bare feet into them. Also... a sore that I have had for many months has JUST healed although it is still a little pink. Since it is my husband would have to deal with the repercussions of the sore coming back...HE WOULD NOT EVEN ATEMPT OR ALLOW me to wear these. But since I am wearing them... that is how soft they are and rather pressure less (since absolutely no pressure is the only solution to get rid of a sore). So if anyone is interested in keeping their feet warm (which will help warm you all over)... check out the following product: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItemrd=1item=120196407260ssPageName=STRK:MEWN:ITih=002#ebayphotohosting Shipping and handling is free within the United States and this is the best price we could find on the product. Re: [QUAD-L] Bad Night, pain, anxiery
I find that my pain increases with barometric fluctuations. i have also discovered that I have more anxiety when my bowels aren't emptying well. This also increases the pain level. Constipation hurts. The pain creates anxiety and runs my blood pressure up. It is a nasty downward spiral. Sort of like a toilet flushing and,, you know what that makes me. I do best when I eat plenty of green leafy stuff but it can get gassy. Mirilax has really helped me in the past few years. No cramps, no gas, no anxiety. Hemorrhoids do better. Intestinal bleeding stops. Most of us do suffer from intestinal inflamation several times a year according to a doctor that had a long black tube stuck inside me with a camera. (HE SAID HE WAS A DOCTOR) The spine curving is not helping my bowels move. My commode chair is comfortable but it can't make up for that. Im still waiting for a custom fitted back for my wheelchair. (are they just BS'ing me about that?) Do any of you have a custom fitted back to adjust for a twisted spine? If you are awake all night in too much pain to sleep, you have my deepest sympathy. The best solution to pain is sleep. It feels like I'm shuffeling poisons some nights. Alchohol for morphine, for codeine, for valium, for pot, for C-span. Again spiraling downward! Love and best to you all in the coming year, john - Original Message From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]; quad-list@eskimo.com Sent: Monday, January 7, 2008 8:59:01 PM Subject: Re: [QUAD-L] Bad Night, pain, anxiery Its that damn barametric pressure thing. It affects both man, woman and beast. Even the insects and bugs have been acting funny the last couple of days. But can you expect anything else, considering 60+ degrees in the beginning of January. I'm confused, I'm sure they are too. lol I talked with Warrior this morning and her voice still sounded husky after all her testing. But she hasn't lost her humor. Let's hope that her custom unit is ready for her when she is finally released... That is the only bad thing with living alone. Andrea is still running a temp but has stopped vomiting today. I hope they get rid of her virus. Her apt. should be ready this week or next.
