Yeah they are great, he did all of my neck surgeries and his nurse is
definitely one of the best. I didn't have him do a surgery like the ones you
guys are describing, but he did remove some of the fusing in my neck to give me
left to right and up and down movement.

What happened:
I broke my c2,c6,c7 and had to get donor bone at c2, which left me as a

I had a Traumatic_brain_injury from blood going to my brain from my spinal

I am off a ventilator "woohoo" however only half of my diaphragm works right

Quick Note / Option:

Check into Dr. Scott Falci (Fal' chee) at Craig Rehab in Denver. His nurse,
Charlotte, is a great help. I had a syrinx caused by "tethering" -- the cord
was tethered --attached-- to the surrounding dura mater, the covering that
surrounds the cord and brain and holds cerebrospinal fluid.

This tethering is a common cause of quad-related syrinxes and often goes missed
or misdiagnosed. In 1996, when I was diagnosed, Dr. Falci and Dr. Barth Green
(at the Miami Project) were the only ones experienced in this UN-tethering of
cervical syrinxes in quads with the purpose of (A) Relieving pain -AND- (B)
Restoring some function! At the time, Falci had already done the procedure
over 100 times with an excellent (and immediate!) success rate.

Best of luck. I empathise and sympathise with your problems!

Best wishes,

Hi, just a saving money tip on going out to eat. http://www.restaurant.com/
has lots of restaurants listed and you can buy $25 gift certificates for $10.

Plus!!! They have a 80% sale going on. [Promotion code is: PORTION] So I
bought a few $25 gift certificates for my favorite restaurant for $2 each.

Some rules like dine in only, 18% tip, spend at least $35 (Some restaurants
very this). You can buy $10 for $5 ($1 on sale).

  Just thought I'd mention this.

Well,
Every program is different but with me there is always a hard section to start
that needs to be pulled out then the looser stool starts coming out fairly
easy. I take an orange bisacodyl pill, 2 majic cleanse, eat fiber cereal and
fruit the night b4 and sometimes a beer. I use the majic bullet suppossitories,
go every other day. Usually im on about an hour just to make sure its all
out..at the end like a clear stuff will come out. Some folks try to run a
looser program but then every time they bend over they get a surprise.

What do you do when it's clear that you have eaten too much fiber and are
having difficulty
going. The only way to go is to (how do I say this and be polite??)
"dig it out"?

I am starting college full time in a couple of weeks, I can afford to spend 2
hours
on the toilet each night.  Honestly at the point of considering not eating to
eliminate the problem.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

In my opinion, you are 100% correct that the potency of the magic bullet has
diminished significantly since it was pulled off the market some years ago.
The worst part is the magic bullet has some sort of a addictive quality to
it. I was unable to go effectively with any other suppository.

The beginning of all of my bowel problems started when they pull these
things off the market and even though I am doing considerably better now,
I'm still not back to where I was back then. Then again I'm considerably
older now.

I have had pretty good luck with putting my suppositories in the
refrigerator. It's best to put them as close as you can to the freezer and
in the back of the fridge. It seems to help us keep them fresh longer.

The neuro at St. Johns your talking about is Selwyn Picker . He is from South
Africa and is a very nice man. The problem I had with him is he keeps wanting
to give lip service , but no real solutions. He is a firm believer in no
surgery without function loss. What upsets me about some of these docs is they
say well you dont know for sure the pain is coming from the cyst. Well when you
have no pain for the first ten yrs then feel like you got punched in the
stomach all the time a person knows something in their body has drastically
changed...and if an obstruction in the cord called a syrinx is found soon
after...thats the problem. I mean for instance if your driving your car and you
start feeling a vibration.then you get out and see a screw in your
tiremore chances than not the screw is the prob. It just isnt rocket

2009-08-12 Thread Fragile
due to severe burning pain I had an MRI taken a few years ago. The first
radiologist to read it said "no abnormalities", everything looks normal.
About a year later I took the images to a neurologist, he looked at them for
a few seconds and told me I had a syrinx. After looking at syrinx images on
the Internet and noticing they didn't look anything like my images, I sent
them to Dr. Falci. He told me I had posttraumatic tethering due to SCI. No
syrinx, no sign of a fluid filled cavity. Although he said there was
nothing that could be done surgically because I wasn't losing any function,
I was very surprised and grateful that he and his nurse took the time to
look over the MRIs and give me his opinion without asking for anything in
return.

Wow  Tim - what an adventure for  sure.  I tipped over backwards leaving my

100 degrees heading for 115.  Luckily someone across the street saw the whole
thing and came to my rescue.   I had a few spills outside at night in the
winter in Detroit too - got lucky to get help each time.  There's something
about  being 'young n dumb'!   Now I always have my cell phone in my pocket
anywhere I go.  I'm alone a lot and can't risk dying stupidly - you can't be

Yeah I took a trip and didn’t leave the house; I gave myself a nice hard push
backwards from my living room into my den, my front wheels were caught on the
threshold and down I went. I went down so damn quick that the only reaction I
had was to block my knees from hitting me in the face after my head bounced off
the floor. After that I had to get my right leg unstuck from between my armrest
and backrest; I then had to get my chair out from under me. It became a matter
of survival mode at this point; my phones were about fifteen feet away on my
desk, I was home alone, it was 7:50 am and no one would be here until 2 in20the
afternoon. My first thought was to try and get to my phone; I realized that
would be nearly impossible, so I was able to get my arm under our
futon and get up on my elbows. After getting to my elbows I then worked my way
to a window; I saw my neighbor come out of his garage, so I started pounding on
the window and yelling, my neighbor looked around and went back into his
garage. So I started thinking I need to look for something to pad my hips from
the hard floor. Just as I am looking around I saw my neighbor again; I started
pounding and yelling again, this time he heard me. He came over with his cell
and called my nurse; she arrived, and they picked me up. And believe it or not
I was down only about ten minutes! I was pretty dang lucky; no injuries or
bruises, just some sore muscles today. NOW- when nobody is home; my cell will
hang from the back of my chair!

I have had quite a few in my 21 years as well. But after this last one; I have
learned a lesson, I am getting to old for these chair to floor encounters!

Sounds like a quad adventure to me.  I've had my share of them in the past 21

It became a matter
of survival mode at this point; my phones were about fifteen feet away on my
desk, I was home alone, it was 7:50 am and no one would be here until 2 in the
afternoon. My first thought was to try and get to my phone; I realized that
would be nearly impossible, so I was able to get my arm under our futon and get
up on my elbows. After getting to my elbows I then worked my way to a window; I
saw my neighbor come out of his garage, so I started pounding on the window and
yelling, my neighbor
looked around and went back into his garage. So I started thinking I need to
look for something to pad my hips from the hard floor. Just as I am looking
around I saw my neighbor again; I started pounding and yelling again, this time
he heard me. He came over with his cell and called my nurse; she arrived, and
they picked me up. And believe it or not I was down only about ten minutes! I
was pretty dang lucky; no injuries or bruises, just some sore muscles today.
NOW- when nobody is home; my cell will hang from the back of my chair!

It was pretty freaky- I didn't panic; and yes I am in a manual chair and glad I
wasn't belted in, I would have been stuck like chuck.

Re: [QUAD-L] syrinx

2009-08-12 Thread Danny Hearn
I'll let you know Ron, We are trying to decide if I should see Picker at
St.Johns or Wright, who you told us about. I saw picker after first being
diagnossed with a syrinx in about 1999 or 2000. But my daughter works for
Washington University as a medical Assistant and seems to think I should see
Wright, thinking he may have more experience. I think both may be pretty good.
Dr. Wice said it seems there may be 2 things going on and that the Sirinx is
definitly growing also, and said  go see a neuro to see what they think. It
will be about a month to get in to see them. All the serious back pain and
problems have started getting real bad this year--- It is real scary , I feel
pain in area's of my back that used to have no feeling.I hope I don't loose
function or ability to be transfered or load myself in our van. For years my
thinking was---being paralyzed sucks, it can't get much worse than this ! ( But
believe me I wish I could go back to prior this
year--those were the good ole days, lol ) I take pain meds every day now and
even driving around my neighborhood in my wheelchair I need to go slow over
bumps and cracks or it makes the pains worse. ANYWAY-- I'll let you all know
when I see the neuro surgeon.   Dan H.
