[QUAD-L] Simi Linton's Invitation to Dance

2010-03-22 Thread e m treston

Details below from Simi:

I am thrilled to announce that I have been nominated for an EPIC Emerging
Artist Award via the White House Project. This recognition is for the
forthcoming documentary Invitation to Dance, a film about disability and
dance, produced and directed by Christian von Tippelskirch and myself.
The film is a personal portrait of my life, and more broadly it is about
disabled people's quest for equality, justice, and a place on the dance
floor.

This is a contest and we need your vote!!! Go to:

http://www.thewhite
http://www.thewhitehouseproject.org/epic/emerging_artist.php
houseproject.org/epic/emerging_artist.php

To view the clip, first click on the right arrow underneath the movie
frame and scroll to Invitation to Dance. Select it, then click on the
YouTube icon inside the frame to see a larger version. To vote, select
Invitation to Dance then click the vote button. That's it. The top
three finalists will attend a gala sponsored by Lifetime Television on
April 7th where the winner will be announced.

In order to have the strongest impact, please send this message out far
and wide to all networks asking people to vote for us ASAP. The stakes are
high. This is a great opportunity to bring attention to disabled people's
ideas and artistry.

We will be sending out more announcements about the film and outreach
initiative in the future. metufferfilms@ mailto:metufferfilms%40gmail.com
gmail.com is the best way to
reach Christian or Simi. This is an exciting moment. Thanks so much for
your support.

Cheers, Simi

[QUAD-L] What functions do you miss the most?

2010-03-22 Thread Richard Galli
I'm going to be speaking at a seminar in June. You can help me prepare
by answering a question that can be asked two ways:

What functions do you miss the most? What are the functions that you
would most want to recover if you had the chance?

Make a list of ten functions, in order if you can do it. Post it or send
it to me privately at rich...@gallilaw.com. If there are a reasonable
number of responses, I'll post the results on the list.

Be specific. Not just use of my hands but the specific function(s)
that use of your hands would allow you to do, such as play a musical
instrument or tune your Ferrari. If you selected both of those, they
would count as two choices and you would have eight left to choose.

Please let me know your level of injury when you respond.

Why am I asking this? Simply to show that folks who are paralyzed
similarly are personally affected in different ways, some of which a
non-paralyzed person might not expect. As I have said to people since my
son became a C1-C2 in 1998: walking is overrated.

Best wishes

Richard Galli

I don't think it will affect Medicare. If anything changes. It will
unfortunately get rewritten, changed, canceled, soon.

It should just be Medicare for all. You could opt out if wanted. The best
and cheapest way I think.

At least it makes them cover preexisting injuries. Though they mentioned
For kids so I hope it covers adults too.

I'd love to get secondary insurance to cover my 20%

I just can't understand the hatred over this, most from those who it would
help the most. The R's are just so good at scaring people out of their own
best interest. The big scary government, death panels, killing old people,
etc. Yesterday as congressmen were walking up the steps they got called
Nig., got spit on, etc. One R yelled Baby killer as a D was on the floor
speaking. I'm not happy how this Bill got put together or the Bill itself,
but I never yelled these things. Nor did I yell them at Bush ( Though I
might have in the privacy of my own home.)

It's more coverage for everyone.but it dilutes many folks' current plans.

Re: [QUAD-L] Voice remote controls

2010-03-22 Thread Jim Lubin

I am at my computer most of the time even to watch tv. I
have a tv tuner cable box on my computer and use BeyondTV software
to watch tv. I can easily change channels, record shows, pause
rewind live tv.
When I am recording something on my computer and want to watch another
channel I use the sling player connected to the cable dvr in the tv room.
The sling player has an on screen remote that I can click the button with
the mouse. The sling player runs on my netbook so I could mute the volume
and use it to control the cable dvr while watching the big screen
hdtv.
I guess if you can use voice control on a netbook or notebook to operate
the sling player then you can call it a voice remote tv
remote
