By your comments, I'm guessing that you have a complex rehab chair. To perform the necessary test to evaluate your chair's issues... you have to be removed and that in itself is time consuming and complex. Where do you sit n rest while your chair is being evaluated? Can you be without your chair for 24 hours? Also reading what you posted, tells me that you let others talk you into decisions you should be making towards YOUR future. For me being here and You being there there is not much I can offer, except... Best Wishes In a message dated 8/2/2017 8:29:41 P.M. Each manufacturer makes the necessary testing equipment for Tech Providers to test the integrity of each component on an electric wheelchair or scooter. Dealer programmers are also available to trained Techs. For end users, a multi voltage meter and amperage draw meter is a good start. Keep in mind that attaching the equipment to the wrong terminals could cause more expensive damage, plus repair time delay. I hope this helps, a lil. Re: [QUAD-L] Wheelchair Draining Battery
Changing out parts without determining the cause is foolish and time consuming. I also realize that the process is much easier just to swap out parts and components. Manufacturers require a test on each component and the use of a programmer to determine a part or component failures. Certified Techs, know exactly what is necessary to perform. Shady tree mechanical just swap out parts and components. Remember each motor has 3 components, magnetic brake, 24 volt motor and gearbox. Please keep that in mind. It may not be the batteries, but rather a failed component that is allowing the batteries to drain. Best Wishes In a message dated 8/2/2017 4:24:35 P.M. Re: [QUAD-L] Wheelchair Draining Battery
I won't call these companies the names I would like to call these companies. That's why I was looking for that paragraph describing other issues that can drain batteries outside of what you'd normally expect. I wrote the Pride Corporation – maker of my chair – and was going to ask them about these other issues. Their response, without asking me anything, was that I needed to speak with the company that works on my chair…Jeff From: Nichole Rohling <zoocr...@windstream.net> To: 'greg' <g...@eskimo.com>; 'Jeffrey Gaede' <jsga...@yahoo.com>; quad-list@eskimo.com Sent: Wednesday, August 2, 2017 2:24 PM Subject: RE: [QUAD-L] Wheelchair Draining Battery #yiv4158219559 #yiv4158219559 -- _filtered #yiv4158219559 {panose-1:2 4 5 3 5 4 6 3 2 4;} _filtered #yiv4158219559 {font-family:Calibri;panose-1:2 15 5 2 2 2 4 3 2 4;} _filtered #yiv4158219559 {font-family:Tahoma;panose-1:2 11 6 4 3 5 4 4 2 4;}#yiv4158219559 #yiv4158219559 p.yiv4158219559MsoNormal, #yiv4158219559 li.yiv4158219559MsoNormal, #yiv4158219559 div.yiv4158219559MsoNormal {margin:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;font-size:12.0pt;}#yiv4158219559 a:link, #yiv4158219559 span.yiv4158219559MsoHyperlink {color:blue;text-decoration:underline;}#yiv4158219559 a:visited, #yiv4158219559 span.yiv4158219559MsoHyperlinkFollowed {color:purple;text-decoration:underline;}#yiv4158219559 p {margin:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;font-size:12.0pt;}#yiv4158219559 span.yiv4158219559EmailStyle18 {color:#1F497D;}#yiv4158219559 .yiv4158219559MsoChpDefault {font-size:10.0pt;} _filtered #yiv4158219559 {margin:1.0in 1.0in 1.0in 1.0in;}#yiv4158219559 div.yiv4158219559WordSection1 {}#yiv4158219559 Found two posts I made regarding batteries showing full but couldn’t hardly go out of my house…….would say charge batteries when going over a threshold or incline I had the same problem last year beginning in March. The batteries were replaced 4 times. After asking in May to replace anything relating to charging the batteries the company finally replaced the charger (in October, didn’t fix it) then battery boxes, the joystick and the 2-prong thing that the battery box slides into on the chair in December. Haven’t had a problem since (knock on wood). Best of luck, it is so dang frustrating Nicki Greg,I think we are in the same boat! I just had my 4th set of batteries put in Monday since March. All of a sudden my chair was stopping saying “low battery”. I would turn it off then on and go a few feet and repeat. Joystick shows full battery charge. Woke up in March and my house smelled like rotten eggs. I paid out of pocket for what they said were gel batteries from a battery supplier because I had to have them that day. $352 worth. In June, same thing with my chair stopping saying low battery but joystick shows full charge (I use my chair very little). They swapped out batteries at no charge but said it had to be my chair. DME company came out right after 4th of July and ordered new batteries and new charger. Got them Sept 9, they said what I had was not true gel cell . Last week, same thing, low battery and chair stopping even though joystick shows full charge. We ordered new battery boxes, receptacles, joystick and they warrantied my batteries but by the time parts get here these batteries will be shot and I’ll have to pay out of pocket again. My chair is 8 yrs old and new chair process is on hold until medicare covers parts. Soo frustrated the DME company drug their feet on parts and really trying to troubleshoot the problem. I asked in July to order anything it could possibly be. I did call Invacare and they said DME company should have brought programmer to see fault codes so I called them and asked that he please bring it. Really didn’t tell much other than I’m having low batteries. I feel your pain and good luck! Re: [QUAD-L] Wheelchair Draining Battery
Thanks, Greg. I was looking more for the post where someone provided possible reasons, other than the obvious, for why a chair isn't getting the mileage it should. The post contained other areas of a chair that could be drawing charge from the battery, rather than normal, expected use. [QUAD-L] Wheelchair Draining Battery
Would anyone still have that post regarding all the alternate causes why a wheelchair battery gets drained, yet these issues aren't typically looked at by wheelchair companies? Jeff
