[QUAD-L] Supra pubic catheter

2021-04-17 Thread C H
I’ve had a Supra pubic catheter since 2009. Paralyzed since 2008. The catheter
itself was changed out this past Thursday. When the nurse took the catheter out
blood was dripping from the hole. This has never happened before. I’ve had a
little bit of blood for one to several days in my urine after a catheter change
many times through the years. But never had anything like this happen. Today it
is dripping from where the catheter goes in. My urine looks like dark raspberry
tea. Has anyone ever experienced the dripping blood before?

I have some blood or drainage at times on the tissue around the hole, not
much. The only time I had a lot of blood in the bag was 14 years ago when I had
bladder stones.  Dan H***

I have blood around the stoma all the time because my body keeps forming

with you?  Have someone look closely at the hole to see if there's any tissue
building up.  Might be easier to visualize when the catheter is out though.
That said, all my bleeding has been around the stoma on the outside.  I've
never had enough blood inside my bladder to change the color of my urine.
Monitor it for a couple days but don't wait too long.  Unfortunately, a
catheter does increase one's chances for bladder cancer

SP has nothing to do with the stomach. It goes thru the skin directly to the
bladder.

I have had mine for 3 years now. Much fewer infections now than before.

Mine is changed every 3 weeks. When I felt it in for 4 weeks I got more
infections.

2008-01-11 Thread John S.
Women can have a few internal problems that might make a Supre-public cath a
problem. Dropped bladder, dropped uterus, Sounds like some women just come
apart inside. If you see some women that have had lots ofchildren and their
kidneys are just below their C-7 vertebra...well, you get the picture. Bladder
augmentation would be slowly stretching your bladder so it would hold more
urine. This can help reduce the risk of autonomic disreflexia in some paralyzed
people. It is important that you be a great judge of how much your bladder is
holding as residual.
A Urologist can be a fountain of knowledge...metaphorically speaking.

All my prayers and best wishes,
john

Wheelchair,

What will make someone unable to accept SP? What is the
difference between bladder augmentation and SP? I have an appointment with
my urologists in February. I guess he will explain all this to me.
I'd just like to get input from those who have experience with SP, which will
help with my decision.

Hi Naomi,

I had a supra-pubic catheter for over 18 years. I would highly recommend
getting a supra-pubic catheter.

I went to my doctor yesterday and she suggested that I have a super pubic
catheter put in, because I am constantly plagued UTIs. I don't know if this
is a good idea or not. I don't have access to a shower, so I just get bed a
bath every day. I have read several things on this list regarding
supra-pubic catheters, and I don't think many of them were positive.

Can some of you shed some light on the subject for me. What are the
advantages and disadvantages? Keep in mind that I do not have hand
function. Thanks in advance.

I had mine done at Craig hospital in Colorado. I still have constant UTI's
however I think mine are caused by possibly my caregivers not washing
their hands enough and constantly being around my younger brothers however..
for me because im a younger male it also allows for sex.. Im not sure how
concerned you are about that, or if it's a problem for you.. changing them
is fairly easy as well, my nurse comes out once a month to change mine. Hope
this helps some!

I had the sp tube put in about 2 months ago.? I love it!?

Good stuff:
1. No risk of damaging my urethra
2. My penis is free for sex
3. Is not as painful as the indwelling

Bad stuff:
1. slight mucusy leakage from the hole
2. can't really lay on my stomach
3. doesn't really change risk of UTI
4. it's kinda scary knowing I have a hole in my stomach

[QUAD-L] supra-pubic catheter

2008-01-10 Thread wheelchair
Bladder Augmentation, was a procedure pioneered by a URO for those born with
Spina Bifida.
The doctor builds a tunnel using your material from the bladder and connects
it to a flap by the belly button.
You know about the SP already. You might also consider doing GOGGLE search
on both for your
perusal and consideration.

Did your doctor say that your body will accept a SP? Most can, some can't.
There are more Pros then Cons regarding that procedure. Is the SP more
effective for you then a bladder augmentation, thru the belly button?

Is there a catheter that bends at a 90 degree angle so you don't have to
bend a regular catheter?
It agitates my bladder to bend it.
