Hi Eric,

It is my understanding that Medicare will become the main prescription coverage for meds, and they are dropping all coverage formeds in the Benzodiazepines (Systemic) family. Medicare says that this family of drugs is being over prescribed by doctorsfor mood relaxers, so they are not going to cover any drug from this family for those that use them for spasm control.

I love seeing my name in the subject line of all these drug
discussions. Better living through drugs. One major downside of drugs
for me is massive dandruff, regardless of how often I use dandruff
shampoo. Does anybody else have really bad dandruff and if so, do you
know from which drug it comes?

Hi Diane,

I use 30mg a day of Diazepam and pay $16.00 for a 30 day supply. I'll continue to pay it because it helps with my spasms. I'm looking for another type of meds that just helps with spasms that the Plan D will cover. Changing over won't be any fun but I may try if I think it will work.

Hi Dave,
When I was paying for my meds, valium was about $7.00 for a 30 day supply for 1 a day.

I'm not sure if it's the same class or not, but I take 10 mg
Librium twice a day. It helps my spasms.

Hi Bill,

Librium is in the Benzodiazepine family too. http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/drug-information/DR202084

I can't understand why Medicare would cut a whole class of drugs because the doctors are over prescribing them. That seems to hurt the ones that really need the drugs from that class to me. I guess I can understand it, come to think of it that way.

Hi Ron,

I've used Valium for almost 30 years for spasms, and haven't found it to bea problem causing weight gain. It doesn't look like Medicare will be covering it with their Plan D program, so I'm not sure what I'll be doing after Jan. 01, 2006. I'll belooking at other med options but may end-up continue using it and paying for it out-of-pocket.

I agree with the quality of life aspect. A person in our situation must take what medications he/she needs to be able to go on with life and face each day. Walking individuals cant understand these thoughts. Anyway I take lorezapam as needed (about 2-3 pills a day). This somehow knocks down the pain from the syrinx I have, and calms a person down as well. Upon investigating many medication on net it says drugs like valium and lorezapam do not induce weight gain which is good. Three hundred pound quads arent very productive, lol.

I have a new theory I ask myself often.if I walked tomorrow would I be proud of the past 8 years of facing my adversityI answer myself with yes at this point

have you ever tried to stop taking Valium? I've been taking it
for about 10 years for spasms, does the job well, it worked a lot
better than baclofen for me. Only downside, if I miss a dose the
withdrawal effects start pretty quick and are very unpleasant.
Don't know what I would do if Medicaid stopped paying for it.On 11/21/05, David K. Kelmer [EMAIL PROTECTED]
