I s agree as well. I have mantle cell lymphoma, a cousin to leukemia. 
Diagnosed in 2013. By all studies, it could return in 3 yrs in which chemo will 
have no effect. There has been a pill that came out in 2014. If my body can't 
tolerate it, I'm done! So there comes a time in which we have to look at the 
quality of life!!!

I think it's very important to remember that each of us is very different.
We ask for opinions, and many times a solution or partial solution is found
in the answers.  However, because of our differences, sometimes it is not.

25 years ago I was bitten by a brown recluse spider.  This was back before
the destructiveness of their bite was widely known.  The poison spread and
tunneled throughout my right thigh and hip.  It required extensive surgery,
and took almost a year before we were done.  As a result I had to learn to
sit differently, which eventually led to a sore in my groin.

Over the years we tried everything, staying in bed, roho cushion, wound
vacuum, all ineffective in the long run.  During eight years of that time I
was unable to get insurance because I did not qualify for Social Security
disability.  After a particularly nasty flare up and six months in a sand
bed, a very kind and generous plastic surgeon who treated me for years and
charged me $25.00 a visit, said I had a couple of options.

Continue treating this and doing all the preventive staying in bed etc. etc.
which led to no life to speak of, or get up and start a life treating this
wound.  I made the decision to just deal with it.  17 years later I still
have the wound, it has only flared up a couple of times but considering
where it is located it is understandable.  I go to wound care once a month,
and we watch it like a hawk.

For me it was the right decision, at 77 I know that my skin is becoming more
fragile and I am glad for the years when I was able to fully live my life.
Luckily I have been fortunate in having no other pressure sores that have
ever developed into serious problems.

I am not advocating my solution for anyone else, but I'm just putting it
forth to point out that we are all different.  Have a great day everyone,

I sit in the foam/air combo which keeps me more stable. the air is only in the 
back. this cushion is meant for people with or has had skin breakdown. I sat in 
a gel for 25 yrs with no problems and like you lori, was up for the whole day 
and yes, I had no problems until I got my new quatrum. the rep did not adjust 
the cushion flush to the back which allowed my cheeks to hang over the edge of 
the back of the cushion. I drive and yes I sit much higher. it's strange but I 
got use to it. my head is very close to the door post. i'm 5'2 with short arms 
and sit close to the steering wheel. had to be that way so I could reach 
everything! Happy Birthday Lori!!!




I would love to sit more "stable" as well as keeping my ischial tuberousities 
safe from further breakdown... especially having old battle wound on both of 
them. The Ride Design cushions seem to offer that. Along with breathing room 
down there.

latest chairs. After my Everest and Jennings [of which I sat in for only 4 or 5 
years) I had a wheelchair called a Fortress Scientific that I sat in for 14 
years, 14 hours a day without shifting my weight, and it was just a very 
comfortable bucket seat with nothing underneath my butt except for a thick area 
of air which was below the seat part of the bucket seat. I never had one... 
single... skin breakdown over those 14 years.


However, it is just another way for the people who come out with wheelchairs 
and cushions and all of that stuff to keep the money rolling in. Sorry to sound 
so cynical, but it is true.


I was just encouraged [by someone on this list fairly recently] to try it since 
the Roho cushions have always had me weeble wobbling all over the place. I 
began using the Roho cushions after having a Stage III wound. I have not been 
able to try another kind [like the ride design cushions] but being held more 
stable and sitting lower to the ground. Instead of buying high-profile Roho 
question that always has to be "maintained" when I now do not have someone to 
maintain it. Except for faithful Tom Borcherding... the president of Roho. 
Which I can't thank him enough for!


For the longest time I have been wanting to ask people on the list how they are 
able to see out of there van windows??? 


This is simply because ever since I have gotten one of the latest rehab power 
chairs (whether it be Permobil or Quantum which basically all sit at a high 
level because of the tilt features) and then have had to put a Roho Cushion on 
top of such a high sitting chair... I sit so high in my conversion vehicles 
(even with a 10 inch drop floor!) that I can't see anything except the road in 
front of me. I can't even see road signs. 


I am the passenger and no matter who my driver is... my chin is level with 
their forehead! 


I would love to sit more "stable" as well as keeping my ischial tuberousities

thick area of air which was below the seat part of the bucket seat. I never
had one... single... skin breakdown over those 14 years.

However, it is just another way for the people who come out with
wheelchairs and cushions and all of that stuff to keep the money rolling
in. Sorry to sound so cynical, but it is true.

I was just encouraged [by someone on this list fairly recently] to try it
since the Roho cushions have always had me weeble wobbling all over the
place. I began using the Roho cushions after having a Stage III wound. I
have not been able to try another kind [like the ride design cushions] but
being held more stable and sitting lower to the ground. Instead of buying
high-profile Roho question that always has to be "maintained" when I now do
not have someone to maintain it. Except for faithful Tom Borcherding... the
president of Roho. Which I can't thank him enough for!

For the longest time I have been wanting to ask people on the list how they
are able to see out of there van windows???

This is simply because ever since I have gotten one of the latest rehab
power chairs (whether it be Permobil or Quantum which basically all sit at
a high level because of the tilt features) and then have had to put a Roho
Cushion on top of such a high sitting chair... I sit so high in my
conversion vehicles (even with a 10 inch drop floor!) that I can't see
anything except the road in front of me. I can't even see road signs.

I am the passenger and no matter who my driver is... my chin is level with
their forehead!

I would love to sit more "stable" as well as keeping my ischial
tuberousities safe from further breakdown... especially having old battle
wound on both of them. The Ride Design cushions seem to offer that. Along
with breathing room down there.

Contour seats have to be designed to fit you. If it's meant to fit everyone it 
will just cause you more problems. I personally need a seat that reclines and 
can tilt in space. I do know it's possible to get Contour seats that can do 
this. Car seats are made to recline an automotive manufacturers have been 
studying the way people sit for a long time much longer then wheelchair 
manufacturers. I'm absolutely certain that Contour seats can be made to fit 
into wheelchairs without risking sores.
I get a little upset when I get into a car seat that is more comfortable then 
my wheelchair and reclines electrically yet nothing like it is available in a 
wheelchair. Let's face it a Roho seat maybe the height of comfort in 
wheelchairs but it looks like crap. I think it's about time some wheelchairs 
had a little bit more Style.

be a better one sometime. I like the contour part. But, I worry every butt is a 
different shape and size. If it curves where you don't, could cause an issue.

I currently have a stage 4 wound and NSN (national seating & mobility) put me 
on a Roho Hybrid Elite which is foam/air combo but they suggested otherwise, 
try the Ride Designs by Java. So it must be a good cushion.
