Re: [QUAD-L] Phoenix Disability Expo
I'll be there, Greg. Sept. 9-11, 2022. Westworld, Scottsdale, AZ. It's free entry, but last year i remember them charging for parking. As others have said: it's a great opportunity to get out, see friends, learn about new equipment/resources/programs and have a hot dog. The wheelchair football demonstration last year was worth it in itself. I hope to see there! Don. Re: [QUAD-L] Phoenix Disability Expo
Ability Expos are a great start and reference for those in need. I do the Chicago Show every year (except this year) and enjoy while I learn of new equipment, technology and government social services that are available. I encourage everyone, and anyone to try and attend any of the 5 Abilities Expo, if they can. Best Wishes ! Re: [QUAD-L] Phoenix SCI Doc
Recommending doctors is a little like recommending restaurants, or anything for that matter. The Thai restaurant I tell you about may seem way too spicy for you, while I find it to have the perfect level of heat. Similarly, for medical professionals (and plumbers and pet groomers, etc.), what one person finds a positive another person may find a negative. Don't get me wrong, I'm not disbelieving or diminishing your bad experience with this doctor, I'm just saying I know several people who think the world of him. Best advice: ask around and find out for yourself. This is one reason I rarely recommend doctors, or restaurants.I do like Yupha's Thai, in Tempe. Don P.Tempe, AZ

RE: [QUAD-L] Phoenix SCI Doc
No offense, but Dr. Linke was our physiatrist at Barrow and unfortunately, we were not impressed by his capabilities and “aloof” bedside manner. He never addressed the severe shoulder/neck pain that my husband had during his stay at Barrow and it has followed him throughout his therapy. He also never seemed to be excited that after four months of total paralysis, my husband started moving his feet and biceps and has since regained motor function in all his muscles (albeit he is still non-functional and a quadriplegic). We had an insurance snafu with our original company and felt we were labeled as “uninsured” and hence “unwelcome” at Barrow. And while that insurance issue has been resolved and Barrow was paid, we have made many trips back to St. Josephs emergency and have not received good care at that hospital – they have never been able to diagnose certain conditions that my husband has experienced. RE: [QUAD-L] Phoenix SCI Doc
I would sure like to find one. We had Matthias Linke at Barrow as physiatrist; cannot recommend him. Not really invested in his patients. Then we had Candyce Williams and she really didn't make any good recommendations for therapy. Now we have Robert Djergaian at Banner. He seems more knowledgeable, but is also a director so you only see him every 2 months and he just doesn't have the bandwidth to be very personable or committed. If someone recommends a good one, pass it along to us as well. -Original Message- From: greg [mailto:g...@eskimo.com] Sent: Wednesday, October 07, 2015 7:50 PM To: quad-list@eskimo.com Subject: [QUAD-L] Phoenix SCI Doc Anyone know of a good SCI doctor in the Phoenix area? At night I often spasm tight and my arms get uncovered. Even though it's hot, the AC still blows cold air. So I wake up cold arms, tight muscles. Going outside right away feels so nice and relaxing. Like 85 degrees. Pus I can pick fresh tangelos or grapefruit for breakfast. Slice lemons or limes in my water. But by afternoon, it's getting to 116 this week. A little to hot now. That means the AC in the house is on a lot too. It's always something. Maybe Hawaii, nice and even all year. Greg
Re: [QUAD-L] Phoenix
I hear ya Greg, I'm always cold and my wife is always hot and needs fans going and air on...many days i can't wait to get up and outside into the warm sunshine, I wish we liked the same temperatures but oh well--many crazy quad life things we must all deal with. I'm just lucky to have her still taking care of me going on almost 18 years like this. Dan H.** On Monday, June 15, 2015 8:45 PM, greg wrote: Nice things about AZ this time of year. Re: [QUAD-L] Phoenix Taxi?
I ran into a similar issue the other day myself. Thankfully I happen to be at the VA when my van broke down, so I was able to arrange transportation. It took me about four extra hours, but I was able to get home without too much difficulty. You might want to get the number for AMR. They are based all over the place and I believe they are in Phoenix. I know they have nonemergency transportation available and in a pinch you might be able to get home if you negotiate a deal with them. Greg, When I was living in the east valley before moving here to Vegas, I had a uro who was in Gilbert named Dr. Joseph Worischeck.
