Lissette, also senokot ass has helped me wonders, it's a laxative with a

doing it by myself! Wtf!

Hello Lissette!! Thanks for your advice! Well my butt isn't that big, with

my doc said that could have contributed to my roids .. what state are you

Hi,
I have been c/5 since 1996. i've been through the awful "hemmy" years. I
dreaded bowel days which were every other day. I tried dozens of things
to help with hemmys. I ended up having surgery to cut them off. And I
started drinking Mirlax to soften stool. Then use magic bullets &
Enemezz(sp?) .
I had to strict diet, watch what I ate & when. Couple years ago, i got
sore by cocyx area. I ended up getting colostomy operation. Wow, what
relief of doing bowel care.
I got an air mattress and roho air cushion to deal with sores. You can
get air mattress on Amazon way cheaper than medical supply dealer.

I did get lot pain from laying on my side even on air mattress. I have
to take pain meds.

There is some cushions that have cocyx are cut out. There alternating
cushions too. expensive.
I tried different donuts cushions. I would love to develop a cushion to
keep your scrotum are from touching anything. lay on memory foam with
cutout. or cushion with cut out.

Thanks for the input Paul. I’ve never heard of banding but my hemorrhoids are
on the inside, they don’t really hang. They poke out a little bit every now and
then but I don’t think banding would work for me. If they do get worse I
probably will look into surgery. They say soaking them helps too which I
haven’t tried much but I probably will.

Hi Lissette,

I am exactly like youhemorrhoids, back sleeper and spasms when I first lay
down.
I am in tons of discomfort during the BP. It always takes me 2 – 3 hours to
feel
better. After the BP, it always feels like I still have to go but that
resolves.

I take Miralax every other day, Benifiber each day, D-Mannose each day and
fiber
pills each day. Stay away from using creams for prolonged use, as this can thin
the
skin, which would make matters worse.

I did look into hemorrhoid banding but decided to pass. This could be a
solution.

Wish you well,
pj

Hello Carla, I recently discovered that I have hemorrhoids as well, I guess
from so much constipation and didge shimming. I also noticed increased spasms,
especially when I’m in bed, it’s not too bad, it’s usually just when I first
lay down and then they calm down. I think my mattress helps a lot, it’s a gel
mattress, however I do have a big butt which probably helps too. I can’t sleep
on my side because my shoulders start hurting after 15-20 minutes, so I sleep
on my back all night. I’ve tried hemorrhoid creams but didn’t help much. I read
that taking an anti-inflammatory could help, I haven’t tried it yet but I think
the best thing to do is to address the hemorrhoids. I think also fiber rich
diet might help. Also, not sure if the hemorrhoids are obstructing my bowels
from coming out, because I've been having the hardest time lately. Maybe seeing
a doctor for the hemorrhoid issue it's not a bad idea.

Do you have an air mattress? Because they are awesome for relieving pressure.
Most of the time I set mine to float but if I have a pressure sore I set it to
alternate and it will move air side to side kind of like you are doing with
pillow but more often and while you sleep.
I also have issues with hemorrhoids I spent 4yrs every 3 months having them
banded (rubber bands caught off blood supply) and they would fall off within 4
days. But Dr told me we would never get ahead this way so he finally referred
me to a surgeon to have them removed. That was at the beginning of Covid
unfortunately I am still on waiting list for surgery.

The method used to help clear bowels is Digital Stimulation, True most Quads
get hemorrhoids, some need to get them treated or removedso far I have been
okay with  creams when they get bad. AS far as the problem when doing bowel
routine...many Quads told me that Miralax can really help and can be taken
regularly if needed, also was told fiber can help . Dan ***

also noticed increased spasms, especially when I’m in bed, it’s not too bad,
it’s usually just when I first lay down and then they calm down. I think my
mattress helps a lot, it’s a gel mattress, however I do have a big butt which
probably helps too. I can’t sleep on my side because my shoulders start hurting
after 15-20 minutes, so I sleep on my back all night. I’ve tried hemorrhoid
creams but didn’t help much. I read that taking an anti-inflammatory could
help, I haven’t tried it yet but I think the best thing to do is to address the
hemorrhoids. I think also fiber rich diet might help. Also, not sure if the
hemorrhoids are obstructing my bowels from coming out, because I've been having
the hardest time lately. Maybe seeing a doctor for the hemorrhoid issue it's
not a bad idea.

Ron, FES is used early on to keep the nerves active while it stimulates the

responds using a TENS unit. A physical therapist can be most helpful with

Re: [QUAD-L] fingers....

My hands got a bit too tight so I stretched them and then they got too loose.
It was so much harder to hold my cup and open doors when they were loose.
Now I'm mainly trying to get my index fingers and 1 thumb to straighten all the
way.
They all naturally curl almost first looking, but those 3 fingers just wont
quite straighten all the way when stretched out.
When slowly stretch open and wrist bent forward all the others can go straight.
I was told to always bend your wrist forward when stretching your fingers.
So that your fingers are always a little tight. It helps with lots of things.
Greg

I'm sorry but the position your hand was in during your spinal
injury has nothing to do with your hands curling. Your body
naturally wants to curl up and twist from atrophy. I promise all
quads that are c5 or c6 that letting your hands close into a fist
will be the best thing for you. You will be way more independent
and be able to do more. Most people think my hands look normal
until I try to shake hands.

its hard to say which is better, maybe curled are more functional for gripping

done it and soon as I reease them they go back into curled possition. Dan H. C-6

In a sense its true, much depends on early ROM, nerve damage and how the
damaged nerve affects the muscle group. C4,5,6 injuries will/can affect,
fine finger movement. I've seen very good movement with some C7's. But as

left hand (I'm a lefty) my index finger is straighter so I have a
little pinch when I twist my wrist up. With hands closed I can drive,
write, ps2 with handles, rc cars, fish, hold stuff, plus lots more. If
your thinking about a cure for later don't worry they will make your
hands open again. I personally never think about a cure and could
careless at this point.

I'm sorry but the position your hand was in during your spinal injury has
nothing to do with your hands curling. Your body naturally wants to curl up and
twist from atrophy. I promise all quads that are c5 or c6 that letting your
hands close into a fist will be the best thing for you. You will be way more
independent and be able to do more. Most people think my hands look normal
until I try to shake hands.

I agree with bobbie. My hands are closed with thumbs out and on my left hand
(I'm a lefty) my index finger is straighter so I have a little pinch when I
twist my wrist up. With hands closed I can drive, write, ps2 with handles, rc
cars, fish, hold stuff, plus lots more. If your thinking about a cure for
later
don't worry they will make your hands open again. I personally never think
about
a cure and could careless at this point.

Take care all, Donald

Mine have been locked closed like a fist since day on in the 1970s Nobody ever
tried to straighten them out ever. It has been advantage to have them curled
up
and locked … I'm able to one doors very easily along with any other tasks.

I was wondering what you guys do about your fingers… mine are becoming stiff
and
locked up… obviously I want to be able to use my fingers again someday and was
wondering if you guys could give me some information on how you keep your
fingers in good health… right now my caregivers stretches them twice a day but
its only getting worse and I’m getting worried…
