Hi Steven, I just recently read in the Mac Bible that the power switch is never totally OFF. There is a trickle charge that keeps the PRAM battery charged up. If you don't keep power to the back of the mac it can let your battery run down. Does anybody know anythinng about this? Don Erdmann, Vancouver, USA i unplugged it, let it sit there unplugged for about 3weeks, moved it to another room...an now no powerup. I've tried many various power leads, 3 keyboards, tested the p/s fuse, jiggled the leads for the keyswitch to board and the p/s to the board, the batt reads 2.4ish volts (fine i think?) i haven't tried to boot up with the ppc card removed yet. ?? I think that the machine should powerup from keyboard alone. ie. no hds, monitor, periphs, or ram even. is this correct? hope someone can help thanks quadders, from steven. --- Introducing NetZero Long Distance Unlimited Long Distance only $29.95/ month! Quadra - Epson printer
Thats why I got the Epson 750. Last printer I could find (in my part of the world) that has a Apple serial port. It was bought to replace a Personal LaserWriter LS which stopped working and which the repair shop lost. Other than work processing I can't really think what to use the Quadra for. Its too slow for a MP3 server or encoding machine. Besides the 9500 I have has the advantage of PCI slots so it can take a USB card, which makes it possible to do a lot more with it. -- Quadlist is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/ and... I'd say it sounds more like Obsessive/Compulsive than an addiction. ;) Mike Paul Noss [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: In some ways it is. Does mac addiction have an ICD10 classification ? I was surprised at how many posts were about people feeling they had too many Macs and some people wondering if it was some sort of addiction. Re: Mac Collection and Addiction
I can relate to this. Mac addiction for me is having at least 10 Macs and countless nubus cards sitting around, with technical skills that are dated. At least it is a *safe* addiction. That and 68k Macs in the UK are next to worthless now. Ed Mine is an addiction, of some form or another - it's a replacement for my smoking habit... I gave up a 2-pack-a-day habit a bit over a year ago, in exchange for going mental with the collection. It's a cheaper habit than smoking, so I can afford it financially, and it's a cheap habit healthwise (unless chewing on pram batteries somehow turns into a health risk.. j/k :). It's a cheap habit timewise, in one sense - in that it's my hobby and passion, and is part of the dozens of things that keep life enjoyable :). Where it's damaging, is my skills as a tech type are becoming more and more refined to point back around 10 years or so. That's an expense in its own, more than in a simple monetary or time sense. -- Quadlist is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/ and... 64mb ram in q840
Some time ago the question was asked whether 64mb RAM chips could be used in a Quadra 840av. I never saw an answer to the question, and I hadn't tried it out myself at that time, but today I finally got around to trying it. I have some 64mb chips that I was using in a 6100. Today I decided to fool around with the 840 so I tried the 64s in it. With both 64s installed the computer recognized only 64mb of total RAM installed. So at least with those sticks, the 840 can only recognize a maximum of 32mb per RAM slot. Sorry it took so long to answer, but I really am not fond of working inside the 840. I would do anything for love, but I won't do that. tafkar -- Quadlist is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/ and... Re: NeXT ColorStation and Apple Multisync 17. Possible?
Any adapter is possible. If you look at the pinouts of the DB-15 (Apple) and the 13W3, it becomes fairly obvious how to make the adapter. If you prefer, the adapter that goes from HDB-15 (VGA) are always on Ebay, just make sure you get the right gender for your application. Then use a Mac to VGA adapter. Finding the 13W3 connector is going to be the most difficult part of making the adapter. I've got the adapter that connects a Sun monitor (13W3) to a VGA card and also the adapter that connects a VGA monitor to my Sun's (yes, I'm addicted!), but they are staying here... You only need 10mA through your chest to kill you, you can do the math. I have to admit, I don't know anybody that's been killed by a TV, but I won't be finding out myself. I use plenty of caution when working on TV's and monitors, and usually suggest to Internet taught techies to leave the case intact. No, but the dealers might blow your brains out when you run out of money and start making promises you can't keep. My attitude is that we are on lists like this to take control of our machines (instead of the reverse) and that's what sharing info is about. Re: NeXTlist?
I'd love to get a NeXT computer (it all comes back to this addiction again!). I used to just lust after the first NeXT machines when they would show them at the University in the late 80's. The problem is, they seem to go for some many $$ on Ebay. I'd need to find one that is complete (I'm sure that I'd have a hard time finding software, keyboards, etc...), that is being sold locally. The last one that I heard about in the local Buy/Sell, was also asking quite a bit of money. I should have called up and low-balled him, just to see what happened. Until then, I just can't afford the Ebay prices (since I have absolutely no use for a NeXT at all!).
