Does anyone have the URL for Think C which was said to be available as a free
download?

Re: AppleWorks 5 questions

2003-06-25 Thread Jamie Pruden
Hi Mark,

*Most* AppleWorks users don't need "quick" scrolling... they need to
know what fits on a page. Don't get bent about Apple's response time...
I've been asking for 24 bit color and more than 72 dpi in bitmapped
graphics since version 2. If it really bothers you, type the document
in BBEdit, copy and paste it into AW, and then format. ;)

Check out NisusWriter... I think they have a mode that is similar to
what you're looking for.

The command is always on the menu because Apple hasn't really updated
much in AW since the days of Claris. If you'd really like to see the
option available, try this:

Open a new word processing document.
Click on the toolbox at the bottom of the page (should show the tools
on the left side.)
Click on the Spreadsheet tool.
Create a small spreadsheet frame.
Choose Open Frame from the Window menu.
Note that the new "document" is identified at the top as a WP document,
even though it's a SS.
Choose Page View from the Window menu.
Neat, huh?

Tex-Edit and BB Edit.
I don't really wanna use Microsoft, but why can't
Apple let me choose how to open documents? And why put
a command on the menu that is always unavailable?

LC 580 monitor problem

2003-06-25 Thread Henry Lintiaco
1. Every 5 minutes, there seems to be some display
disruption like a sudden power shortage of sort of
like that. The monitor will blink, but not totally
out. I is directly connected to an AVR, in with an
extension outlet. What seems to be the problem.

2. I want to use the monitor of my dead LC575 in my
PPC 6100, is there a way to do it?, short of cutting
the compact in half and connecting the monitor piece
part in my power PC?

Thank you for any piece of advice.

Henri

I'm going to go out on a limb and say yes. Although I have not used this
particular system enhancement, I have found most of the downloads from
www.pure-mac.com to be useful. Desktop Resetter 2.2.1 sounds like just the thing:

OS8 and above but works great, thanks.

Re: LC 575 Display Waviness

2003-06-25 Thread Gordon Elliott
Sounds like it could be a power supply regulation problem. Would not A/C hum
in one or more supply cause that? If so likely culprit is the large filter
capacitors in the power supply.

Another possibility -- when turning on most color monitors, there is a
'degaussing coil that is activated, and it shuts down when a series
thermister heats up or a relay cuts out. If that were damaged or leaky the
degaussing coil might continue to activate, but I don't know if that is a
likely problem. (The initial waviness on many monitors, accompanied by a
noticeable hum that fades out, is the degaussing coil. There is usually a
button on monitors that will activate it, so you can test for that by
pushing the button if it exists to see the pattern it creates.)

I'm going on GENERAL monitor problems and old and slight background in TV
repair, I don't know Mac monitors specifically so take this as suggestion
only.

Subject: LC 575 Display Waviness

Hi-
I fired up the old LC 575 and am having terrible screen waviness. I
moved all magnet type things (other computers, speakers, monitors) away
from it and the problem persists. The screen starts very wavy and then
settles down to a milder wave or shimmer. It's not located near any
other electrical fixtures or wiring. The cord is attached to a surge
protector. Are there any adjustments to be made to correct this? Can I
degauss? How?

Please, point me in the right direction!!! I've done a number of
searches, but wasn't able to find anything specific. This is the final
piece of the mighty Mac network at home.

Sean
