Re: AppleWorks 5 questions
Hi Mark, *Most* AppleWorks users don't need quick scrolling... they need to know what fits on a page. Don't get bent about Apple's response time... I've been asking for 24 bit color and more than 72 dpi in bitmapped graphics since version 2. If it really bothers you, type the document in BBEdit, copy and paste it into AW, and then format. ;) Check out NisusWriter... I think they have a mode that is similar to what you're looking for. The command is always on the menu because Apple hasn't really updated much in AW since the days of Claris. If you'd really like to see the option available, try this: Open a new word processing document. Click on the toolbox at the bottom of the page (should show the tools on the left side.) Click on the Spreadsheet tool. Create a small spreadsheet frame. Choose Open Frame from the Window menu. Note that the new document is identified at the top as a WP document, even though it's a SS. Choose Page View from the Window menu. Neat, huh? smiles, Jamie AppleWorks trainer... and ClarisWorks tech support dude back when 2.0 was released. Fwd: AppleWorks 5 questions
Hi Mark, You don't. Word processing documents are *always* in page view. You could set the margins on the page (Format Document) to 0 inches. You should note that this will cause havoc when you print as your printer will cut off anything that is outside its built-in margins (normally about 1/2 inch on all sides.) I'm curious though... why wouldn't you want to see how your document will print? smiles, Jamie On Monday, June 23, 2003, at 03:01 PM, Mark Koan wrote: How do I make the Page View command go away? I just got a Performa 631CD that has been working fine for the past couple of months. The other day I powered it up and got no video. Checked the pram battery and it read 1.5 volts. I had an extra that read 2.5 volts. Put it in and video came up. After using it for about 5 minutes the video just faded out. Left it running and video came back after about an hour. Does this sound like a battery or dying monitor? Any and all replies greatly appreciated. TIA --Thanks; Rev. George -- Quadlist is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/ and... Re: Quad collectability
I don't know if there are actually production numbers available out there in the www... I think the pickle is referring to: 1. Time of production Most Quadra models were produced for business users for an extended period of time, so models like the 950 and the 700 are pretty common. Their prices reflect this... 2. Limited editions Ferinstance... the Twentieth Anniversary Mac was only produced in small numbers, so it's pretty nice if you can find one. I'm totally kicking myself over that one... I worked at Claris about that time and could have picked one up for a song. 3. Top of the line Anytime you have a model at the top of the speed charts, it's probably at least a little collectable. 4. Oddities This is where you'll find the real cool ones. MacTV (built-in TV,) TAM (upright form factor,) Quadra 605/LC475 (very small footprint,) and the Cube (Ooohh factor) all fall into this category. These might be a little more collectable than the run of the mill machines. My Old stuff collection consists of: SE/30 (128 MB RAM, 32-bit clean ROM) (fastest compact Mac) IIfx (32 MB RAM) (fastest 030 Mac) 950 (256 MB RAM + 256 MB Nubus RAM Disk) (Most expandable 040 Mac) 840AV (96 MB RAM) (fastest 040 Mac) PB100 (first real portable Mac) LC475 (really tiny footprint) You can see why I got mine... collecting is a personal thing for many of us... it's not just based on how many or how valuable... ;) smiles, Jamie On 1/29/03 4:21 PM, Mark Koan [EMAIL PROTECTED] typed: Very unlikely, as they were produced in great numbers, unlike every other Mac that has began fetching premium prices. -- the pickle So are there actually production numbers available for the various Mac models? Hi Mark, I happen to have a copy of both Illustrator 7.0 and 8.0 sitting right here (I'm selling off my cache of older software on the Swap List...) 7.0 runs on an 030 or newer, System 7.5 or later. 8.0 requires a PPC, System 7.5 or later. smiles, Jamie On 1/23/03 5:24 AM, Mark Benson [EMAIL PROTECTED] typed: On Thursday, January 23, 2003, at 12:03PM, the pickle [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Illustrator? Re: System 7.5.5
How much virtual memory are you using? Is this possible or has MS acquired Apple? I can't find any individual files that seem to be taking up much space. My trash is emptied. I threw away my old system. Any ideas what is going on? If this is for real, what files can I throw away safely? I only have a 160M HD, (for the time being) and about 30 megs of apps yet to install.
