Re: Q605 should be here Monday
And the Apple 16 Color, too. Actually, just about anything will work with it, but to get 832x624, you're pretty much limited to Apple-, SuperMac- and Radius-branded monitors, since that's a Mac-specific resolution. There are a *ton* of monitors that'll do either SVGA or XGA (1024x768), though. H, my Sony GDM-17SE1 with the Belkin adapter does 832x624 w/o problems. So does my Sony CPD-1304S... On both my C650, and my 7100/80... Is the Griffin monitor database still up? Re: Quadra floppy drive
Funny you should ask. The 11G was used in a lot of IIci's. In fact, I have the one from my IIci out at the moment (gotta get another PRAM battery and a PS, then reassemble the thing), and it's the 11G version. I learned early on with one of my Macs to keep a floppy disk partially inserted, to prevent dust from being sucked into the drive. -J Todd Felmly wrote: My Quadra 700 floppy drive died tonight (partly my fault). The model of it is MP-F75W-12G (Sony 2MB). I see on ebay someone is selling a MP-F75W-11G (Sony 2mb). What is the difference between the two? Will the 11G fit my Quad 700? Re: Cheap source of 4 and/or 16MB 30-pin SIMMs?
Jeff's post - SNIP Michael, same here. Picked up a set of 4 from him when they were $39.99 for my old IIsi, which, btw, did run MacOS 8.1 for a while, with Born Again... Re: Hard drive problem
Try Disk Warrior. It has a scavenge mode, I think. I haven't used it for that but I seem to remember seeing this info cross one of the lists. -- All the best, R.A. Cantrell [EMAIL PROTECTED] It does have something like that. If it can't rebuild the directory on a disk, what it'll let you do is preview the directory, so you can get access to the files. But, it'll only do that, if the drive (or floppy) is mountable, but nothing shows up in the root folder. At least, that's been my experience. -J John H. Re: Auto Inject Floppy Drives
Could someone please clarify me on this as my 610 floppy drive does do an auto eject, but I have to push the floppy into the drive so I do not have an auto inject. Is there a difference, or is this just terminology slang for this style of floppy drive? You must have a Quadra 610, which has the later style manual-inject floppy with the black door that covers the opening. Does your computer have what looks like a pair of lips around the middle of the slot for the floppy drive? On the older drives, you do have to push it in a bit, but there's a spring that sucks the floppy down into the drive once you get past the resistance. On the later drives, you have to push it all the way in, then it'll drop down. This is not meant to be a joke because on my iMac it has a DVD slot that does suck the CD-ROM in and I don't have to push it in. I consider auto loading to be auto injecting. Re: QuadDoubler results are in!!!
They both had Ethernet on-board, and neither would benchmark faster in Speedometer. Er, not necessarily. Remember, the 4MB Centris 650 doesn't have ethernet, or a full '040. Re: back on topic - 610 RAM
John, I'd put in as much RAM as you can afford... Photoshop 2.5 (yes, I'm dating myself) works fine on just about any '030 or newer Mac, and is reasonably fast. My 650 works just fine for image manipulations, but, since I also have a PowerMac 7100/80 (which is inside a 650 case, btw), I usually use that one as my daily driver, and keep the 650 around for playing games like Arkanoid (1.1 runs fine on any Mac that can do 24-bit addressing). -J Owner of one Apple //e, three Macs, and, *gasp*, two Dell PC's... J Sand wrote: On my 610, will 2x16 be enough RAM, or should I go ahead and invest in 2x32 RAM sticks. The machine is mostly going to be used for surfing by 56k modem and some word processing functions. If the extra RAM will make it able to do image manipulations, even slowly compared to today's standards, it would be worth it for me.
