i cannot boot the cd on my quadra 660av it is rather bothersome due to the fact i need os 8.1. i cannot boot into macos 7.6.1 and just install As was mentioned in a related set of e-mails today about booting a 575 from an OS 8.0 CD, try booting your 660AV normally from its own hard drive, and then insert the 8.1 CD. Follow this by accessing your Startup Disk control panel and selecting the OS 8.1 CD. Now when you restart, the OS 8.1 CD should take over and provide you an installation option. Quadra 660AV
I'm the recent lucky recipient of a friend's unwanted Quadra 660AV. I'm interested in loading a copy of A/UX if it's possible to do so. Is this one of the models that will run this OS? Also, there seems to be space in the chassis for an internal CD-ROM. I think the fascia needs to be removed and another one substituted if a CD-ROM is installed. Where can this piece be found? One last question...I want to connect this machine to a LAN. The logic board connection for the ethernet appears to be different from what I'm used to. Is there an adapter that is used to connect a standard 8pin ethernet connector (RJ-45) to this machine? Where can these be found? When a 660av becomes a real pain!
Hello All, My beloved 660av is causing me concern. It's having regular type 2 errors, disappearing hard drives and sad mac's (in that order) before I spend a time consuming HD wipe and reinstall. I have some culprits and I wanted your opinions before I either repair (if I can ($$$)) or shoot it. Suspect (a) - The PRAM battery is going Bye Bye. A long shot though the battery is producing 3.2v instead of the perscribed 3.6v. And I have a past history of PRAM fandango's (Got to love Techtool Pro). Suspect (b) - Software conflict/corruption. I've been using a downloaded version of OS 7.6.1 and it is possible that was a little shonky from the trip through the wires. Plus I have a scanner suite that has caused a bit of heart ache in the past. It seems to be the most plusable as the freezes and crashes I've experienced all seem to come in long(er) operations like backingup my Newton or large software updates/installs. Suspect (c) - Hardware failure. Not the one I want to think about but... Sad mac shows and 000F 0033 as best as I remember it. This does go away with rebooting and much PRAM Zaping. BUT curious is that when I do ZAP the PRAM some things go to factory setting and others don't. Since installed Techtool to zap it good and proper and that seems to have plicated it. Any ideas please ladies and gents. I'm a touch lost here. Regards, Adam -- Quadlist is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/ and... 660AV 840AV software suggestions ..
This is probably specific to 660av 840av owners. I've tried searching the archives to be sure someone didn't already ask this but .. what options do we have for making use of the super cool video hardware in the 840av? I've played around with the Apple Video Player .. its fine for grabbing frames and doing quick clips .. but what about editing? I've heard that for multitrack audio, a piece of software called 'DECK' runs great on the 840av. I'm not looking for something as fancy as premier .. I would just like to sequence and edit video clips I capture on the 840AV .. Any pointers? Quicktime PRO? Also, does the system need VRAM in order to push video out? I've followed instructions to have it display on a TV monitor but the monitor's and sound control panel made no mention of 'using the TV as a display device' .. maybe I need to look for that elsewhere? I have two 660s that I alternately hookup to my home entertainment system. 660AV
Hello. We were given a Centris 660 AV. The CPU powered on and the monitor powered on, but nothing appeared on the monitor. So we connected the CPU to a 610's monitor and the 610 to the 660's monitor. The 660 CPU works just fine with the 610 monitor, but the 660 monitor still has a dark screen. However, that cable designed to connect the 660 system is some monster cable. I'm wondering if we're not connecting it right. Any advice? Having the capability to connect that 660 AV to our TV would really be nice for our journalism class. quadra 660av problem
I attempted to upgrade both memory sticks on my Quadra 660AV with 32meg sticks and now I can not boot. I am running MacOs 8.1. It chimes to begin but there isn't a face at startup, cursor just freezes. Checked pram battery, tried other memory sticks and used another hard drive without any luck. It will not boot from CD drive either. I can hear the hard drives start, but then they just quit. There is a possibility I may have induced static when I changed the memory.
