Re: Me again
Thanks to all who responded. My daughter told me something like that one time when I was trying to install a burner on her computer. I was thoroughly pd off and left with it not working. She called me a few days later and told me that she changed the speed and it worked just fine. I have yet to meet the person who knows everything about computers. But, a group like this sure helps a whole heck of a lot. Thanks again. doctortom On Tue, 23 Dec 2003 14:18:13 -0800 Terry Graham [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: The problem I have been having is that it has OS 7.5.1 and I have been trying to upgrade to 7.5.3 that I downloaded onto my PPC. I used WinImage and combined them all so that there is individual copies and one self-extracting file. I put the CD into the Mac and nothing happens. Hi Tom, Firstly I'd go straight to 7.6.1; the last of the best before the 8's. Secondly it sounds as though you didn't choose what burner software TOAST calls a Hybrid format, meaning that it will be readable by a PC. But in your case maybe WinImage has an option where whatever you burn will be readable on a Mac. It will also have to be formatted in Standard Mac OS (which is HFS) rather than Mac OS Extended (which is HFS+) The PC hard drive you are burning from is probably HFS+ formatted. Let us know. I recently got a Power Mac 5200/75 in an auction and am planning to use it quite frequently. The problem I have been having is that it has OS 7.5.1 and I have been trying to upgrade to 7.5.3 that I downloaded onto my PPC. I put it on disks and the Mac wants to open it with Script Editor and then it goes awhile and then gives me an error that it can't read the dictionary and that there is an Apple error. I am sure that I am doing something simple wrong. If anyone can help, I would really appreciate it. Thank you. doctortom Lucky for me I have two to blow my horn. ;) I'm guessing your using a pc rather than a ppc? If it was infact a ppc then you have likely downloaded the files as text rather than binary? If its a pc then leave the 19 .bin files as .bin files and then transfer them to the mac and drop them on to stuffit or mac binary, you'll end up with one .smi or diskcopy file and 18 part files. Double click the .smi file and if diskcopy is installed the image should mount on the desktop. You could burn the 19 .bin files to cd and transfer them that way or use basilisk to download and transfer them via appletalk (ethernet only) to the off topic powermac Yet another option is the 7.5.3 cd image, gone but not forgotten at: http://web.archive.org/web/20020620094428/http://www.graphixmad.plus.com/mac_troubleshooter/downloads/System7.5.3-CD.img.bin You may struggle to burn this on a pc however. When burning cd's for old macs a burn speed of 2x or 4x can save on coasters, damn boring though. As you can see, I dont quite understand the question. ;) -- Quadlist is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/ and... Re: Me again
Hi What type of cd media are you using because I have found that any of my macs with a 6x or less cd drive will not recognise the cdrw media and only some of the cdr media. For best results I have found that the imation cdr 700/80 min cd's work fine. vicki -- Quadlist is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/ and... CD-RW Media was Re: Me again

I've been beating myself up for the last couple of weeks with this whenever I find time to play with the computers. I was using the fast computer with the fast connection to download some software. Burned them to a CD-RW, ran over to the 7100 and what the??? I thought it was a HFS/HFS+ issue and tried messing around with the preferences. Every time I burn the disk, and I go to get info it would say MAC OS extended. Right about the time you posted this reply, I remembered that I had a CD-R disk with some software which worked fine with the 7100. Checked out the format and it was MAC OS extended. Well, hell must be the media!! BTW yes, I've confirmed that. -stew -- Quadlist is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/ and...
