[qubes-users] Re: Wifi problems on recent updates
On my acer netbook with the Atheros wifi I redid some testing. Under 4.4 the wifi worked but under 4.9 the wifi was also hard off listed under rfkill Luckily, for this device I found https://askubuntu.com/questions/98702/how-to-unblock-something-listed-in-rfkill Which said that the kernel module for acer wmi (acer-wmi) was the problem, I'm not exactly sure how or why? maybe helpfully trying to handle acer keyboard functions but actually tragically eating the wifi function presses? Regardless, I put it in /etc/modules.d/blacklist.conf, rebooted, and volia, wifi. So that module seems bad. And I still haven't figured out what is up with the intel wifi laptop. But ooph, the 4.9 kernel seems to hate wifi :( -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "qubes-users" group. [qubes-users] Single USB device passthrough to a HVM?
How best to pass a single USB device through to a HVM? The scenario is: Laptop with a single USB controller. My mouse is USB, and I have a standard sys-usb VM running to handle that. The USB controller is of course assigned to the sys-usb VM. I also have a USB wifi adapter. I want to attach that to a (different) HVM. The qubes-usb-proxy _seems_ to be the right solution, but I am unable to figure out how to install the necessary software in the HVM. The HVM is linux, but not a standard debian or fedora distro, so I suspect that I will need to build some components from source. I do see these: https://github.com/QubesOS/qubes-issues/issues/531 https://github.com/QubesOS/qubes-issues/issues/2144 but I'm not fully understanding the current state of things, nor how to proceed. Can a single USB device be assigned to an HVM? Is there a better/different approach I should be using? Re: [qubes-users] Qubes 4.0 Display free disk space
On 10/26/17 15:32, Chris Laprise wrote: I'm looking for an easy way to show free drive space in Qubes R4, since Xfce's widget doesn't handle lvm. There is lots of advice for checking lvm space that doesn't seem to apply to thin-provisioned volumes, which is what R4 uses. (As a side-note, lvm thin-provisioning doesn't appear to be in wide use.) Some suggestions are to use 'pvs' and 'vgs' commands, for example. The closest I've got to a real assessment of allocated/free space is 'lvs' which shows a _percentage_ of used space for each of the many logical volumes... but not a total. Reading this doesn't even provide a vague picture of free space because the logical volume sizes are arbitrary (over-provisioned). Got a somewhat workable estimate from this: $ sudo lvs | grep '^ pool00' The two percentage numbers on the right (data+metadata) can be added together for the total space used. Expect lvm to consume one unit of disk space for metadata for every two units of data -- I may be mistaken but this seems quite high. -- Chris Laprise, tas...@posteo.net https://github.com/tasket https://twitter.com/ttaskett PGP: BEE2 20C5 356E 764A 73EB 4AB3 1DC4 D106 F07F 1886 -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "qubes-users" group. [qubes-users] Properly setup a qube dns cache server
I'd like to setup a DNS cache server with a cache application like dnsmasq or similar on a different qube than 'sys-net', so that 'sys-firewall' DNAT all requests to my dnsVM, instead of passing it directly to 'sys-net' and the dnsVM, of course, could pass both 'sys-firewall' or 'sys-net'. I'd like to have an easy way to switch the DNS configurations from dom0, both via cli and GUI, maybe in the 'Qubes Global Settings' with another field in the 'System Defaults' section, that let me switch from 'sys-net' to other qubes. The final goal is to make possible to specify a custom dnsVM backend based on tags and labels, for example to send all request from "trusted" VMs to a dnsVM with where a DNSCrypt is installed and all request from "untrusted" VMs to a dnsVM that apply a small set of filtering rules. The problem is I don't know which configurations/files to change and how to make this configuration persist for a session or permanently, since I know ServiceVMs update dynamically the iptables rules, the nat table in particular, on interfaces UP and DOWN events. [qubes-users] Can't Read Text in Qubes VM Manager

[qubes-users] Re: How to Make APP Fonts Larger [Solved]
I noticed that before I log in, there is a menu bar across the top of the screen. There are fouritems in the upper right: The left most icon is a circle with the letters 'Xf' (quite small), clicking produces a radio button labeled xfce session. The second is the phrase en_USutf8, clicking produces a list of languages. The third is a stylized person icon, clicking produces two selection boxes, one for 'Increase FontF1', the other is 'High Contrast F2'. The fourth is a power button, clicking produces a selection list including: Suspend Hibernate (grey) Restart Shut Down... Alt+F4 I did not detect a change at the desktop for either selection for xfce session. The increase font selection only changes the font for the sign-on screen, not the desktop. is an icon (too small to read) that when I click on it, it produces a window with two selections: 1 -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "qubes-users" group. [qubes-users] Problems with wifi and fedora
I had to change the harddrive out for a bit and everything previously was working fine. Then when I put it back in I noticed the update arrow on fedora template VM was on. Also my wifi chooser on upper right was gone. I checked if it was running and Wi-Fi was going fine. But no notification on top. I can start the fedora VM but can't update or access anything like terminal. Just freezes. I used it like this for a week. Now I tried it and wifi does not connect. I can only access internet via hardwire. Fedora is still in same state. I've restarted. Moved harddrive again. Nothing works. Any suggestions? At this point trying to back up my VMs but its not letting me change the location to the USB drive as last time. Only letting me save in dom0. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "qubes-users" group. It does indeed seem like the version of coreboot I’m running doesn’t support VT-d so isn’t compatible with 4.0 rc 2.
