maybe we should encrypt this whole channel ^^no? But then we should discuss how
to do it to have a universal protocol to do it.

Re: [qubes-users] Intel ME Backdoor, called Odin's Eye

2018-05-12 Thread charly LEMMINKÄINEN
Anyway people, even if he was saying the truth. Then why is he silent then ?
Why doesn't he have joined purism or coreboot or qubes or others to neut the ME?

The difference between reality and what can be real is really thin and it's
often easier to believe what could be then what really is.

First you need to indentify the goal and here it is not clear. Do you know why ?
Because it would mean that Chinese could get access to it with enough
intelligence. Russian could get access to it. And what you are calling Odin so
the NSA or any other entity, don't want all that because it would mean that
even them are at risk ;) which is clearly not the goal.
You don't want to implement something that you can not control.
So it's easier to find an exploit, there are enough of them. Or to create one
within software or OS where you can patch it easily than in hardware.

The real threat from all time, is not the intelligence services, it's the
companies. Anything else doesn't matter.

How does requiring proof instead of an anecdote equate to sticking one's
head in the sand? Do you believe all scientists are sticking their head in
the sand when they do research?

No, that's why I encourage them to use Qubes. I think you must be new
here. Check out some of my other posts.

Re-read the first sentence of what I wrote above, perhaps more slowly this
time, then explain what agenda it is you think I have.

About vt-d, the problem is more about usb controller and the fact that without
vt-d you have not a good control about how they behave and are assigned but I

Well for what I remember, you may not have any choice since for R4.0 you won't
be able to install without vt-d activated. I have kinda the same problem. I
will have to change the CPU from mthe laptop where qubes is installed to make

so since there is no /var/log/syslog .I don't know the reason for that. Or is

No sorry if I have misexplained this. Normally I should have a transfer of
25MB/s (mesured from a transfer of a file on the same usb-qube of a file) . And
here the same file from the usb-qubes to another appvm by attaching the hdd to
this appvm I have 2.5MB/s so is that normal to only have 10% of transfer rate
between the usb-qube and the appvms or is it a bug ?

so you're telling me that your headset is in usb and it's working ? Because
mine doesn't work, so are you sure that it is supposed to work system-wide?
I understand that it would be more secure to have contained the audio to one vm
but right now it's not my purpose.

Again, it's about the usage into a VM. I don't see why the built-in audio would
be accepted as a general audio device in a laptop, so you can listen to a
youtube video from a browser in one vm and at the same time listen to a podcast
or a video in another vm, and not a usb headset
So again, is it a way to make the general audio device a usb headset as the
built-in audio is, or is it a security risk and so qubes doesn't allow it? Or
Maybe it does work for some of you and so maybe my headset is just not properly
recognized?

2017-12-01 Thread charly LEMMINKÄINEN

sorry to retrieve an old thread but I would like to know if qubes r3.2 does
even support usb headset? I mean not by assigning it to a VM but for general
purpose across the whole system?
pavucontrol is normally for inside the vm, not to install at the system base.
