Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Improve default "Now Playing" layout
There is always the first time for everything. And self-awareness is the first step to a cure ;) No, really, don't get me wrong. I have a cover embedded in each and every MP3 on my server. I love Moose for it's cover art selector and I definitely think the cover should be displayed in the "now playing" display. Then again, when I'm listening to music in the morning before getting up, the most important thing for me is the time (and date for the few cases when I'm really sleepy and confused ;)) and the next important thing is the title/artist info, especially when I listen to internet radio or Last.fm. And I really can't imagine that my request for a usable display of artist/title AND time/date is that of a minority if I assume that the bedside radio scenario is a typical use case. Besides, the knob is currently not used at all in the NP display. I could imagine it to switch between different display types. E.g. default setting the mixed type I suggested, turn it to the left for a big clock/date display, turn it to the right for a title/artist/covert art display. -- 0xdeadbeef 0xdeadbeef's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2287 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=69867 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

I'm sure it's the majority case. You're probably not aware but the Boom had a similar problem when it was being developed. The NP screen saver did not include a clock (a pretty big omission for a device that was marketed as a bedside hifi/clock radio, amongst other things). At least with the Radio the clock was included by default (even if it is too small to read)! MC -- ModelCitizen Think the third party Squeeze plugins and applets are important? [SlimDevices: Radio] Preset buttons
So now that I've settled in a bit with my Squeezebox Radio (already having a bunch of other SB products in my house), I see a crying need for some improvement of the Preset buttons in two areas. 1) They're still pretty buggy (I trust that ultimately Logitech will fix this). Specifically, it seems like using a preset to turn on the SB frequently results in "empty" playlists. Power-cycling helps, but it seems to come back periodically. I'll write up a bug once I figure out the specific behavior. 2) It would be really nice to have a screensaver that displayed labels for the preset buttons. I have a hard time remembering what's what. I had the same thoughts on my Boom. Currently its on the nightstand and 20-25 is good...mainly cause its right by my head. I moved it to the kitchen, which is where it will go once I buy some Radios, and to just hear it across the kitchen it needed to be at 50-55. It concerned me as I wondered what the average safe operating volume is on a Boom. If I need to crank it to 70 to be heard, is that ok? [SlimDevices: Radio] Alarm Volume
When my radio is connected to squeezebox server, the alarm volume never goes above what the most recently used radio volume is. I'm testing this using the Bongo Tech sound as my alarm. Alarms are set to fade in. I have the alarm volume set at 81. If I don't play the radio after setting the alarm, the alarm fades in to around 75. If I play the radio after setting the alarm, the alarm only fades to the volume I set the radio to play at. So if I'm listening to music quietly at night (say volume level 21), the alarm will never get louder than volume level 21. This is a HUGE problem, as it won't wake myself or my wife up at that level. Before I enter a bug, has anyone else seen this behavior? This does not happen when my radio is connected to mysqueezebox.com. Thanks! Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Volume
This is a deliberate design decision. It gives good resolution at the low end, and plenty of loudness at the high end. There is no way to damage the device by playing it too loud -- there is digital limiting, so even with an extremely hot input signal, no damage will happen. It may sound lousy when it clips, but that's clipping in the digital domain. Neither the amps or the speakers can get overloaded. BTW, I'm planning to add some good compression to handle that clipping case more gracefully, but it's not implemented yet. -Caleb -- ccrome2 Caleb Crome Sr. Hardware Engineer Logitech SMBU (i.e. the Squeezebox people) The future is here.
