I am very surprised that Logitech is not taking this problem seriously.

They really should communicate officially around this. At least, we
should receive an e-mail informing us that the service is down or that
there is a technical problem.

Can you imagine: hundreds of Radio and Controller owners trying to
connect to mysqueezebox.com and thinking that their device is broken.
Especially those new customers that are not connected to any squeezebox
server.

Moreover, let's assume it: Radio & Controller (squeezeplay devices) are
just not as reliable as the one good old Squeezeboxes using VFD.

Let's give them time! - I read on another thread that they are aware of
the issue...as someone who works in IT support, there is nothing more
fustrating than being bombarded with emails about the same known issue,
especially when it is being investigated. It's only 10:55am here in the
UK - 11:55am in Germany - so they have been on the case for probably
less than 3 hours!...

yes it is fustrating and I am just as "pissed" as most but at least it
is a known issue that is being investigated..so hopefully they will have
it fixed asap (restarting the server will probably do it!)

[SlimDevices: Radio] Always fall back alarm on Saturdays...

2009-11-30 Thread Remy Bohmer
Hi,

I got a weird thing for several months already (at least up to r7915):
On Saturdays the radio always selects the fallback alarm...
During the week it works properly. Once the alarm goes off on
Saturdays, I press some preset button, and then it properly plays the
stream that should wake me up.
The Saturday only alarm is the 2nd alarm that is set in the queue, the
1st alarm is the Mo-Fr alarm.

Anyone else also noticed this behaviour?

Yes I can..because it took me a while to get mine working
properly...especially the alarm clock! - but then hopefully they will
check these forums or contact logitech support BEFORE taking it back to
the shopafter all an internet radio is not really for the "feint

I believe it's one of those features where many people simply don't
comment a lot about.

It's kind of interesting because this was one of the most heavily
debated items during the beta test phase of iPeng 1.2, while some people
actually requested that feature others opposed it heavily and suggested
it not to become the default.
It now _is_ the default and I really did not have a _single_ question
about that, and I do get quite a lot of usability questions, especially
for things that are not explained in the tutorial animations (this one
isn't).

So my impression is that it actually fits quite well with what most
people expect the main volume control to do for synced players.

In any case, I would have thought it would be pretty easy to implement
as a plugin, no? Either for SBS or as an applet for the SBC (similar to
iPeng). Another option besides waiting for it to be added to the core.

Hard to do as an applet on SBC. You would have to recreate all the
server comms separate from the applet logic because SBC only talks to
one player client object.
It was easy in iPeng because iPeng did already operate on all players.

See my last comment. If there's no easy way to switch between "local"
and "group" volume, then, yes. I just don't imagine anyone would want it
to be difficult to change only the local player's volume.

You could use the normal volume controls on the SBC for master volume
and have a context menu shortcut (volume-hold?) to bring up a selection
of players where you display an individual volume control for each
player.
Jive even allows you to override the volume buttons in that menu.

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Now it stopped working altogether (German data center of MYSB is done for?)

2009-11-30 Thread 0xdeadbeef

Hm, I needed two further factory resets to finally get back to what it
was before. Selecting "switch to mysqueezebox.com" simply wouldn't work
even after shutting down my local squeezebox server. Just a beep, no
error message. Diagnostic screen menu showed I was connect to MYSB and
registered. Still all the menu items were missing and MYSB functionality
was absent.

If the local server was up, the Radio connected to it without giving me
any chance to switch to MYSB. The according menu items were either
missing or simply refused to work.

Only after the 2nd factory reset, a new menu item popped up in the
"select player" dialog which finally allowed me to switch to MYSB
again.

Jeez, this software is so completely frigging screwed up.

2009-11-30 Thread 0xdeadbeef

Yeah, I almost had talked three friends and colleagues into buying the
Touch and had more or less decided to buy one for my sis for Xmas. Yet
already some weeks ago it became to clear to me that even if it would
come out before Xmas, chances are that it will be more or less unusable
when it finally comes out.

Now some weeks later, the Radio software is still not close to enter
beta phase. Instead the pile of known problems grows higher every day
and I'm beginning to wonder if the Radio will ever work reliably.

Now how are the same people supposed to deliver a working software for
the Touch who are not able to work out a flawless design for an alarm
clock?

Volume-hold won't work since that means change volume quickly, but
that's a nice idea for an ip3k UI using my ContextMenu plugin. I
wouldn't bother with a Jive UI, as my understanding of the core/jive
context menu in 7.4 is that it's too dumb/primitive (iiuc, 7.4 jive
context menus depend on line-items, not player state).

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Always fall back alarm on Saturdays...

2009-11-30 Thread Chico

First let me say that I haven't owned my radio long enough to confirm
(less than a week) but I have the same alarm settings and Saturday it
failed. It's worked fine every other day so far.

I love it otherwise- but would like to get rid of the alarm clock the
SB Radio was supposed to replace that is now my backup.

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Help: unable to connect to mysb.com

2009-11-30 Thread jeanwedding

Dang it I am pretty satisfied with my radio. i want one or two more
units. I hate to see yall return them.
I noticed a few drop outs. I just assumed it was the actual radio
station programs problem. I have had to unplug and replug from electric
just once or twice to reset. during my first month now of owning SB
radio.
to be more detailed. I do unplug most nights since my radio is in LR.
Then plug DSL and electric cable bck in each morning
I really like my weather screen saver
Thanks
Jean

OK, didn't know that with the volume-hold, don't use the controller
very often.
I didn't mean to say it really has to be 7.4's context menu
functionality, probably bad wording. What I meant was that you could
bring up a menu with the items

Volume Player 1
Volume Player 2
...

And if you select one of those, a volume control slider comes up.
Unfortunately you can't embed a slider directly into a menu like in
iPeng, AFAIK.

Would need some other key, though...
