I voted for the bug. IMO it's a step backward that the new players can't
be fully configured from SBS whereas the old ones could.

[SlimDevices: Radio] Am I being naive?

2009-12-17 Thread jamesg1979

When my PC is switched off, I assumed the SB Radio would know that and
automatically switch to mysb so I can still listen to internet radio.
Then when the PC is back on and it sees a connection it switches back.

Is this not what it does?

Correct, it does not currently do this, you must manually switch
between the two.

radio + server are always synced to the same time.
Unfortunately not the same timezone.
The alarm times are relative to the servers timezone.

See this bug report https://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=14888
Unfortunately it is scheduled to a 'Future' release, which currently
translates to 'Never'.

I'd be interested if you try to ask your question at the logitech
support.
And if they know such a problem spot on or try wild stuff with you :)

To have more fun, just start with 'My alarm doesn't fire at all', not
mentioned that its 'just' late.

Yes and no. Radio syncs to server time, and then runs on its own clock
until it resyncs when rebooted. I know because my Radio drifts, losing
almost 1 minute per week. To be fair, it's a pre-production beta unit --
I don't know if it is a problem with the final production run. This is
in contrast to players like the SB3 that have no clock of their own and
therefore *always* show the server time.

I read this quote last night and was really excited because I am having
the same issue. I was using a radiotime URL for my local radio station
on mysqueezebox.com and it would take a long time to start playing and
the backup alarm would kick in instead. I changed my URL for my alarm
to the actual mp3 stream and went to bed. Sadly, I woke up with the
stupid backup alarm again. I double checked and the stream was able to
play just fine.

I don't remember having any of these issues in 7.3. Was the timeout
for the backup alarm significantly reduced? Is there a way to change
it? I would think something like 10-15 seconds would be appropriate.
Sure, you might wake up 15 seconds later than you want, but at least I
wouldn't want to throw my Boom out the window every morning.

It has long been discussed, don't know where it stands right now.

But there are built in easy manual switching options.
If connected to SBS and PC turned off:
- select Internet Radio or My Apps from home menu, "connect to
MySB.com" is offered
- add a "connect to MySB.com" item to your Home Menu (Settings > Home
Menu)

If connected to MySB.com:
- select My Music and "connect to SBS" will be offered

IMO I believe the *other* server should always be offered when Radio
disconnects from either SBS or MySB. Currently, Radio looks for SBS if
you stop SBS or turn off your computer. The next screen (after it
cannot find SBS) offers: Try Again, Go Home, or Choose Player. Seems
only logical to also offer "connect to MySB.com" as an option. Vice
versa when Radio loses connection to MySB.com, offering SBS to switch
too.

This way, regardless of where Radio was last connected, both SBS and
MySB.com are offered as selections after it tries to connect to it's
last connected server.

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Is the SB Radio headphone Jack stereo, etc?

Yes, the headphone output is stereo. You just need a Y-adapter, with a
standard mini-plug (I think it's 3.5mm) at one end and the two RCA plugs
at the other. You can find them at lots of electronics or music stores.
If you're in the US then Radio Shack is a good place to look.

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Squeezebox Radio not showing album art

2009-12-17 Thread daddyofx

The problem persisted even after rebooting as recommended as well as
unplugging and restoring power to the radio. I decided to just restore
the factory settings and that seems to have done the trick. After
reconnecting to my wireless network, it recognized that the radio was
already registered under my mysqueezbox.com account. Once connected, it
at least preserved some of my settings like the name and synchronization
so that was relatively painless. Other settings like wallpapers and
such were lost.

My memory might be bad but I don't think there is a way for a third
party plugin to override buttons on the Radio, so I'm afraid the context
menu is what we have. Unless I've forgotten something...

I think the "Rating" item in the context menu you are seeing is from
the TrackStat plugin, the standard rating item is a view only menu as
far as I know.

It is supposed to appear always, so if it doesn't, there is probably
some bug in TrackStat.

I can confirm that this is still the case with my final production
retail purchased unit. The radio, unlike my other SB devices, sets the
clock at boot time and from that point onward it will use its own low
quality internal clock to keep time. I have seen mine drift as much as
three minutes in a week which is wholly unacceptable.

The desired behavior would be that at intervals (probably 24 hours or
less) the radio goes back to the server (either local or internet) and
resets its clock so that it is always in synch.

I cringe to think what would happen if I let a couple of months plugged
in without rebooting the radio, as the time would likely be off by 10
minutes or more, which is wholly unacceptable for a device I use to get
me up in the morning.

I expect this should be easy to implement. It should be possible via
cron and ntp, although I'm sure more elegant solutions exist.

just plain ntp will do, adjusting its polling interval based on how
accurate it thinks the clock is.

Would need to use something like pool.ntp.org if internet access was
detected.

Not rocket science -- OpenWRT does it in less-powerful WRT54G wireless
routers, as did the original software. Even my Netopia 2210 DSL modem
knows how to keep its own clock sync-ed to NTP.

It is becoming clear that the "Alarm Clock" marketing bullet got about
the same engineering attention as "available in both red and black" did.

[SlimDevices: Radio] Change Network Settings

2009-12-17 Thread ksieburg

I am very annoyed that I had to go to the support forum to ask such a
simple question. Here goes:

My wireless router's password was changed yesterday. I tried today to
use the radio and it keeps saying "Unable to connect to
mysqueezebox.com". Right, I need to change the password for my wireless
internet that is stored in my radio.

I went to settings and found my wireless network and no matter what
friggin button I push I cannot change the settings. It only allows me to
connect to it. It does not give me any errors when I try to connect to
it it just says unable to connect to mysqueezebox.com.

Everything else about the radio is great. Why is it so hard to change
the password on a wireless network...

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Change Network Settings

2009-12-17 Thread BigPotato

The only way I found to do this was to reset to factory defaults, then
you can enter the new password. Luckily mysqueezebox.com remembers the
radio so you don't have to re-enter the mysqueezebox.com password.

Factory reset is accomplished by unplugging the radio then holding down
the '+' button while plugging it in again.

If anyone else knows how to change the password without going through
this, I'd be interested also.
