Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Keeps disconnecting from mysqueezebox.com

2010-01-14 Thread lindsayanng

I understand the difference between plaists on MSB.com and my sErver but
what about PLAY LISTS?? it's soo wierd. A lot of the times when I'm
setting up an alarm I don't have The option choose the radio station
from favorites but instead from a playlist and other times it's visa
versa.

I have also realized that my favorites are always being deleted.

I am using msb.com to run Sirius because I haven't figured out how to
run it from the server.

And finally. Does the iPhone app work as a remote for this? I'd like to
mess with my husband a little.

Had to unplug and replug electric several times.
Even had to unplug modem and router from electric too.
never had serious problem here at this house.

Thanks, but MSB only allows me to update favorites added through MSB,
not those added on the radio directly or through the SBS. Can favorites

There are many stations that carry Coast to Coast AM. Use the RadioTime

search for Art Bell and listen to the the very best of 24x7. I'm a big

Thanks for the explanation. What does locally stored mean in this
context? If it means on the radio itself, then why cant it remember my
custom settings in the same manner as the tune itself? Also, I must be
missing A LOT given the problems and hurdles trying to stabilize the
alarm. Why not have ALL static content saved on the radio, a connection
should only be attempted if live content is sought, if a connection
cannot be achieved, it should default back to the local content, with
all saved settings. Wouldn't that solve most if not all issues?

I've got 2 squeezeboxes, a boom, and as of Christmas the SB radio. I
only use the radio with mysqueezebox.com, and like others I get the
"cannot connect to mysqueezebox.com" probably once a week. I first
relocated my wifi router to the same room (great signal strenght now!)-
but as the problem still occurred I've run a wired ethernet cable
directly to the radio. Same problem- "cannot connect..."

The Boom never has this problem- neither do either of the squeezebox
2/3's although all of these are on the wireless net. I hope this is
being worked on- it makes this little radio a hassle. John

Still happening in 1/2010 with latest firmware update. Radio
appears to be operating normally--you can switch channels, the
screen updates, even remote control from the web site works. But
no audio coming out the speaker. Power button to standby and
on doesn't fix the problem. Removing power and rebooting does.

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Radio WIFI range is worse than Boom

2010-01-14 Thread MickeyG

The wireless chip is a different one than previously. However, you
should not be seeing this. The Radio normally has pretty good range and
is comparable to Boom.

Can you confirm your firmware version? It's possible to see these
issues with factory installed firmware, and you shouldn't see them with
the latest.

However, if your firmware version is recent then its root cause is
probably something else.

Can you list what you see on the Diagnostics screen? (Go to
Settings->Advanced->Diagnostics). Not sure the contents will be helpful,
but it's a place to start.

Well, based on Bugzilla, this bug is getting some traction:

== Auto-comment from SVN commit #8331 to the jive repo by bklaas ==
== https://svn.slimdevices.com/jive?view=revision&revision=8331 ==

Bug: 14870
Description: Use decode:status().audioState as the gold standard for
deciding
if audio is coming out the speakers. In my tests this reliably works
for both
streaming audio and the client-side fallback alarm.

I believe this checkin may fix the reliability issues such that a user
should
be able to depend on something to wake them up at alarm time.

I will fall short of calling this bug fixed, but let's call it
"Release
Candidate 1" :)

Correct, though PC need not be OFF to use the "switch to MySB" menu
item.

SBS and MySB integration is currently just for basic player settings
(like brightness & text size) and little of this applies to the Radio.
Actually "syncing" Favorites between SBS and MySB is planned but not
currently implemented.

Okay - I apologize in advance that I asked a question that has been
answered before - I just did not realize the whole two server concept.
I found my answer, which is:

"If connected to SBS and PC turned off:
- select Internet Radio or My Apps from home menu, "connect to
MySB.com" is offered
- add a "connect to MySB.com" item to your Home Menu (Settings > Home
Menu)"

One last follow on - I see some post where people talk to integrating
mysb with SBS? Is there a thread that explains how to do this and what
this offers you?

Thanks for your patience. Love the radio - just have to get down the
learning curve

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] MY Alarm Issue, HELP!

2010-01-14 Thread bluegaspode

The problem is due to your setup.

When your server is off at alarm time, a fall-back (locally stored)
sound with full volume will play. If the server is on later it
recognizes, that it missed to send an alarm and resends it.

The solution is to have your server always ON at the scheduled alarm
times.
This might be fixed with the latest firmware, as it will send a WOL
command 10minutes before the actual alarm.

If your server wakes up by this - fine - if not - bad ...

Your points about how alarms function for the smart devices are right
on the money, Jeff. Though the software model used for the new
generation of devices certainly changed, it seems as though the software
architecture wasn't necessarily reconsidered at the proper depth (at
least in the context of certain system functions - alarms being a
primary example).

With the advent of more intelligence on the client side (which is
indeed being utilized in many ways), some of these weird architectural
decisions (whether leveraged from legacy thin device operation or not)
may be responsible for certain problems that will be hard to get
resolved.

When the messaging model and architecture aren't carefully
scrutinized/considered in advance, a client/server application can get
woefully stuck in a maintenance quagmire as issues are incrementally
patched up with band-aids. When/if the architecture isn't right to
start, stability is not likely to be achieved this way. More likely is
a spiral into instability, actually, as the failure cases become more
complex...

As I suggested elsewhere, power modem and router down, then restart in
the reverse order and try and force the radio to find your local server
by going into MY Music (your local music collection on your PC). I
reset my radio after the power downs on the router and modem, but not
sure that was necessary. Good luck!

[SlimDevices: Radio] MY Alarm Issue, HELP!

2010-01-14 Thread wxman

Ok, read most of the threads on the alarm issues. Here's mine. I have
the alarm set to go off at 6am with a musical sound, relatively low
volume and fade in. The alarm goes off on time with the correct sound,
but blasting and no fade in. I hit the turn alarm off setting on the
screen and power down. Within one minute the alarm starts again, but
with my personal settings, low volume, fade in. I suspect that since my
computer sleeps, the radio was using some default setting until it woke
my computer, but from where? My personal settings are correct both on
my local SB server and MSB.com. Any idea what's going on and how to
fix, short of preventing my PC from sleeping, IF that's the issue (I
don't want to reignite that debate!). The setting problem is bad
enough, but the restart of the alarm is going to make my wife throw the
radio out the window!

As an advanced option I don't think it's a problem. The server should
also be NTP synced. If someone knows how to turn this on and does so and
doesn't for the server then they shot themselves in the foot - "normal"
users would never do it.

Probably the same reason it's not worth implementing this even though
it would be nice.

Just to be clear: Favorites are unique to each server, SBS and
MySB.com.
If your Radio was on MySB, you switch libraries to SBS (iTunes music),
then you have changed servers and your MySB Favorites will not be
viewable.

I believe Presets are the same, unique to the server Radio is connected
too, but I'm not 100% sure about Presets.
