Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] I am getting totally fed up!
I thought I was technically challenged as I now enter my third year non-stop effort of debugging (er testing) this duet controller/slim devices/squeezebox server/player prototype for Logitech. Now I see that a veteran IT professional doesnt get it either! Albeit his issues are with the radio portion, I too am flabbergasted that Logitech deemed this a consumer hardened product .its great for techies who get their skirts blown up by figuring out how to make something with multiple failure opportunities function, but robust it is not. Im not a newbie at home network stuff as Ive set up print servers, have two wireless routers in my home daisy chained, 3 computers networked on them, etc. All that stuff works great. Given that and the fact the folks like JonInAtl have issues too suggests that indeed the product is lame. If you planned to actually have a hassle free way of listening to music with this beast beware! Dont get me wrong; Ive had my system working and working well for time periods of maybe up to a month or so. Then something happens and nothing works .the little circle spins around for ever on the controller .never telling me what its looking for or what it cant do; libraries that are mysteriously no longer configured in the Information tab of the Squeezebox Server GUI; libraries that wont even scan anymore unless the server software is re-installed; cant connect to server messages; batteries that wouldnt hold a charge longer than 10 mins (yes, Logitech sent me a new one after contacting them but why was it ever an issue to begin with?); cant access library, cant, cant, cant or wont, wont, wont. And forget the wireless setup to the player; employing an Ethernet cable thru my attic 2 years ago fixed a lot of stuff and allowed the new vista of problems to fully blossom. My setup? A Dell M4400 laptop as my server (I had a Dell 1150 before with the same problem set I have now) with 250 Gb (flac & mp3) of music stored on an external Western Digital Mybook 500 Gb hard drive connected via USB 2.0. I run Windows XP; the Duet has software version 7.5.0 r8673; the SBS software is v 7.5.0 r30464. No, I cant believe its a software level issue Ive been thru multiple software upgrades usually they only make things worse. Connection of the router to the player is via Ethernet as is connection of the laptop to the router. Yes, the Mybook has a script built into it that shuts it down after a certain amount of time. Yes, I think this is my current problem because squeeze box server cant wake it up. Sometimes even Windows Explorer cant wake it up but usually it can. No, I dont know how to prevent the MyBook from powering down. No, you cant manage the power down via the Power Options in Widows XP that is already set to Never turn off hard disks. No, I dont want to put all my music on the internal drive of the laptop because of space limitations. Yes, I leave my laptop powered on all the time when its at home (because of Squeezebox). Yes, I occasionally unplug my laptop from the external drive and take it somewhere .its a laptop. Yes, the external drive appears to map back to the original drive letter E when I plug the laptop back into my home peripherals. I can always get things working again by either running the factory setup on the Duet and/or by reinstalling the server software and rescanning .about a 30 minute procedure but thats a lot to do when you just want to chill to some tunes after coming home; shuffling CDs around is easier or plugging in my MP3 player. Yes, Im fond of semi-colons. If anyone has any tips on this situation Id be very appreciative of your help. Ill even commit Logitech to compensating you for your time. Best wishes & Thanks to JonInAtl and the thousands of other frustrated users in recognition of their millions of un-compensated, GDP draining man-hours spent on this product. -- radikon radikon's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=31547 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=78256 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] I am getting totally fed up!
Thanks for your response. We are using 7.5.0 and we were using the setting automatic update and suddenly about 1-2 months ago, it stopped playing most of our music and would just time out. I know one file we are trying to play is an mpeg-4. I have a lot of these files and my Squeezebox definitely used to play them. If not, I would never have used this system in the first place. When I try to play these files it say Problem: can't open file:... I am using a mac with operating system 10.5.8. I can't think of any more information. Thanks. -- RoseRedd RoseRedd's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=38665 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=78256 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

If you are here to vent, mission accomplished. But if you'd like help you should provide details on your system, server, types of files, error messages, etc. Most problems can be solved but it does require a systematic approach. And no version of SbS has ever played DRM files purchased from iTunes. -- garym garym's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17325 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=78256 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio
Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] I am getting totally fed up!
I cannot play most of my music. It say the file can't open. I called the support group and they took me through a bunch of useless steps before telling me that the new upgrade won't allow me to play mp4s and other types of files (which is most of my music!). They said to convert my files (I don't have 40 free hours to do this) but a few that I tried it on don't work. Why can't they revert back to the old version that could play music??? I can't figure out how to download 7.4.2 instead. I am mad. I am thinking about Sonos instead. -- RoseRedd RoseRedd's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=38665 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=78256 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio
[SlimDevices: Radio] Updated Firmware
Two weeks ago, Logitech Customer Support told me that they were planning to finish testing the new firmware by 6/7 (this past Monday). Then they would be pushing the update out to customers. This was not a promise. It was just a target. Today, I reached out to them again for a status. Here is their response: "We had to push it back due to 3 more bug fixes that made it in just as we were gearing up to push it out the door. We're expecting it if not Monday than by latest Wednesday." The Wednesday date would be June 16. I'm not sure if anyone else is getting these types of responses. I still am holding out hope that our SBR's will be "fixed" soon. -- ciarmer ciarmer's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=37631 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=79596 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

Uh duh... in this case "all-in-one" means it has a built-in amp and speakers. You have a valid complaint about the alarm not working with mysb.com, but your interpretation of "all-in-one" is just bs, especially considering it mentions "digital music on your computer" in the very same sentence. -- aubuti aubuti's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2074 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=78256 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio
Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] The alarm does not work
Come on people, please face it: the Radio is an annoying brick without a local server. Bugging everybody who states this fact with the same old "everything is fine with a local server" sermon is really more than annoying. There is no hint and no trick to get the Radio to work as promised without a local server. Only the folks at Logitech could fix this and they didn't care to do so in the last 8 months or so. Maybe they'll fix it one day by chance or because they finally realize how broken the whole system design is, but I wouldn't bet on it. The only sensible answer is: return it if you still can and maybe look at it again in a year or so (if the brand still exists then). Write a negative review on Amazon. Never buy an alpha software product again even if the brand was once a great one. -- 0xdeadbeef 0xdeadbeef's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2287 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=79559 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

Yet still refuse to answer the questions that others have asked you. Why not give someone the tools to help you? I have two radios. They both work well, including the alarms. They don't use mysqueezebox.com - both connect through a month-old beta version of squeezeboxserver 7.6, which I have running on a computer in the basement. The alarms go off when they are supposed to. Occasionally, when the wake-up sound is an internet radio station and the alarm time is a round number (like 7:00am, rather than 6:58am or 7:02am), I don't get the internet radio station and instead get the backup alarm sound. If I use my own music from the squeezeboxserver, that problem doesn't occur. Likewise, if I choose a non-round number for the alarm time, that problem hasn't occur. And when the problem did occur - twice in the last month - I got the backup alarm sound. I assume your setup is different from mine. Perhaps if you answer the questions asked, someone here can help you fix the problem - even if tech support is showing you no love. Try disconnecting the working Radio from your network (just unplug it). Now try the problem Radio, does it stream properly by itself? Is it just Pandora & Rhapsody that are causing this? Will it stream simple stations without issue? Go to www.MySqueezeBox.com > My Apps > Pandora > Player Settings Make sure each App is Enabled for both Radio's. Pandora allows multiple players to play the same stream or different streams.
