[SlimDevices: Radio] How I've temporarily solved my wireless issues
Just thought I'd let everyone know how I've addressed an issue with my Squeezebox Radio's terrible wireless problems. I was about to return it due to constant dropping of the connection, inability to reconnect, and just general crappy wireless drivers, when I decided to troubleshoot it from inside. Unfortunately for me the Squeezebox uses the same MAC address for both wired and wireless connections (that's got to violate some spec somewhere), so I was unable to simply login and play with the wireless connection without manually changing the wired MAC. What a PITA. Anyways, my radio was losing its connection within 2-3 hours every single time I got it to connect. Most of the time I couldn't get it to reconnect without cutting power and trying again, sometimes a dozen or more times. Even with the wireless AP 3 feet away it refused to connect. I enabled remote access via SSH and logged in to play with things. I've noticed that if I leave a window open from my desktop to the radio constantly running 'top' to display running processes the radio will stay connected to the wireless network. It's been 2 days now and it hasn't disconnected yet, even in an area with a much weaker signal. I run 'top -d300' so it only refreshes every 5 minutes. If this continues to work my next step will be to install a script to ping the network regularly so I don't have to stay logged into the device. My only worry is that it will be automatically overwritten by firmware updates. The device doesn't have a normal cron directory so I'm afraid to trust that if I create one it won't be deleted. It would be nice if I could trust this device enough to actually use the alarm feature, but with this hack I still don't. I'm kinda surprised the various Squeezebox daemons running on the device don't keep the link up themselves. -- Anger Anger's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=40536 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=82042 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

[SlimDevices: Radio] Unable to connect to MySB.com
I received my SQR today. Connected ok to Squeezebox.com and downloaded latest firmaware automatically.(r9009) All appeared to be working well until I tried to connect to mysqueezebox.com as I wanted to be able to listen to music without my PC to be on. I got the "switch to mysqueezebox.com option copied to the home page, but it will not connect. A look on the mysb.com website sees the radio but shows it as not connected. My favourite radio station is BBC Radio 7, as of yesterday it has disappeared and been replaced by a rock station. Has this happened to anyone else. I tried re-installing the BBC app. This does not change anything, all other BBC stations are fine. All other stations that are of interest to me are also okay. Is it possible that the address for BBC Radio 7 has changed and this is no longer reflected correctly. Please tell that this can be fixed. Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] SB Radio and LAN
Yep - done that (and have done it before, with other devices and in other locations!). Just tells me it can't get a DHCP Address. And Diagnostics confirms it isn't getting an IP via LAN. Thinking that there maybe other issues, I did a factory reset on the Radio, plus a forced upgrade to latest software (and checked it could still connect via Wireless). Still no DHCP IP Address via LAN. Odd. Can't quite think what I can fiddle with next. I know you don't like SSH'ing into your Radio but that behaviour sounds really strange when you have your dedicated server. If you use a tool like WinSCP you can connect to your Radio and download the /var/log/messages files. Best to do it, after a fallback alarm sounded. If you post the log here we can look into it and maybe give you an indication about what the issue could be. The alarm code has quite a lot good logging so we might spot something. -- bluegaspode Big Screen for great Boxes available now at your AppStore: *'Squeezebox + iPad = SqueezePad ' (www.squeezepad.com) *!
