Well, there were definitely variations even before. I do have two radios (both older) that have completely different display lighting. The newer one (of these two) REALLY sucks at this. AFAIK the light sensor did change in some hardware revision, indeed. -- Michael ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

This is very interesting ,there where also a chap that reported that his new Radio sounded different ? Speculation baby2=UE Radio , the last hw revision of the old radio may possibly be the first version of UE ? Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Downgrade UE Smart Radio to Squeeze OS
Not really. I just remembered that earlier this year "baby2" firmware strings started to show up in the firmware repos. And recently a friend of mine tried to do the same thing as you: installing a 7.5.x firmware on a newly purchased Radio. It failed with obscure errors and he SSH'ed into the device and had a look at the logs and there was a message about an incompatible firmware revision. I think his Radio came with a 7.7.1 firmware pre installed so it looks you can't go back to pre-7.7.1 firmware revisions. There simply is no compatible firmware for older server versions. The crashes being caused are probably because there is no mechanism to distinguish the devices (both are called baby) so your server will try to install the old version even though it's not compatible. pippin's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13777 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=97331 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

I didn't know you could upgrade from the server. At this point, I'm initiating the upgrading from the Radio which is trying to upgrade from the firmware file stored on the server (the upgrade screen on the Radio refers to my server name, and I checked the server folder to verify that the proper firmware file is there). I did see a posting (http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/Custom.baby.version) about custom Radio firmware updates, but it was too esoteric for me. I looked at the server options but I did not see an option to initiate manual upgrades from the server. Note that i mean home playback there are a lot reasons to run the studio equipment at very high rates as they do all sort of stuff with it. Unless the provider of the files are bit shady and the different rates offered are not from the same master or maybe you don't trust their way of converting stuff :-/ For example with HD tracks you never know the original could have been an old 16/48 master even for the 24/192 . (lets not even touch the topic if 24/192 for 45 year old analog recordings it equals using a gallon bucket for carrying a cup of water ) I Also collect some hirez stuff myself ,but be aware that much if is not what it says on the tin , a large percentage of SACD are fakes too for example. If you feel that or have information that a certain 24/192 version actually are the best master available by all means get it , but these bit-rates is one the least important infos on if a master is a good or not. it has become a sales moniker some good remasters are packaged as 24/96 or 24/192 . But thats not why they are good , a new CD version of these better version would also be fantastic too but a harder sell to audiophiles . Knowing that you can convert it to suitable formats for your own use and actually don't loose sound quality But this is bit off topic . [SlimDevices: Radio] Radio fails firmware update to 7.5.1 r9218
Ive got a Transporter, 2 Squeezebox Classic and one Radio working flawlessly with a 7.5.1 server running on Ubuntu 10.04. I just bought a Touch and a second Radio. I connected the Touch to the wireless network, and it immediately updated and rebooted itself. Upon reboot, it announced that a software update to 7.5.1 r9812 was required. I started the update which completed properly and the Touch has worked fine ever since. So far so good. When I started the Radio, it downloaded 7.7.2 r9663 from mysqueezebox.com and rebooted. Next it connected to my server and announced that a software update to 7.5.1 r9812 was required. I selected Begin Update and: - The download stops at zero percent - The network connection icon blinks orange - The screen announces that the Update failed At this point, the Radio shows up in the server status (proper IP address, firmware 7.7.2-r9663), but does not play music from the server and continually suggests the update, which fails every time. Heres what I tried without getting different results: - Wired connection - same failure - Test network - No problems detected - Tried a reset to factory settings - Tried a restart with the Rew button pressed to reset the firmware - Looked at the Radios Software Updates and found: * Update 7.7.2 r9663 - [mysqueezebox.com] * Update 7.5.1 r9812 - [my server name] - Verified that the proper firmware files were installed on the servers firmware folder I assume from browsing the forum that my mistake was to connect to mysqueezebox. com and download the 7.7.2 update and now it will not revert to the older firmware. My 5 other Squeeze devices are working fine and for various reasons, I want to avoid upgrading the server version. Is there a way to troubleshoot why the Radio fails to download the firmware file from my server? rich.herbs's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=58334 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=97436 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

This would not be a problem with your Touch as it does 24/96 fine and sometimes 24/192 with EDO . This is in fact a valid use case for EDO if you got some 24/192 files they would normally transcode to 24/96 to a standard Touch ,(btw If the site selling the hirez offers 24/96 and 24/192 go for the "lesser" one .) You can also use foobar2000 or dBpower amp and samplerate convert to 24/48 and use those copies if playing and syncing with the Radio is an important use case for you Mnyb's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=4143 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=97432 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio
