My guess is, the Radio hardware was fine as is for a simple UE
rebranding and new (simpler) software.

The Touch is a different story because it's constructed to also act as
server, the hardware is overkill for the new simpler eco-system. A new
UE Touch could propably use cheaper CPU, less RAM, no USB port etc., so
it makes sense to launch a new UE Touch perhaps they can even spend a
little extra cash and opt for capacitative display.

My hope would bee that a new UE Touch (capacitative) could still run the
current firmware (sans serverpart). This way it could still be used in
the old eco-system.

A stereo version radio (Boom replament) still makes sense.

I hope You have a plan Erland :-)

Scenario: Logitech runs LMS/mysqueezebox.com for a couple of years, then
makes LMS open source and helps move everything onto Amazon Cloud.
Logitech could even give www.mysqueezebox.com to the community as they
won't be using the name anymore. But who will pay for hosting?

I really like my Squeezeboxes, Duet, Radio, 2 Booms and a Classic.

Had some connectivity problems back in 2009 but it turned out it was a
bad combination of Vista and old Zyxel Router firmware - really nothing
to do with Logitech. Also had som issues with fallback alarm on the
Radio, but they seem fixed now.

That is by design - users have complained about accidentally switching

It's still hard to understand because I can stop SBS while the Radio is
playing the internet radio stream and continues without problems (not
connected to SBS or MSB).

So the radio knows how to keep track of time and alarm without SBS (or
MSB) and it knows how to stream internet radio without SBS (or MSB).

Logically, it should be possible to combine the two.

I guess the problem is that for now it relies on the "original" server
to tell it what to stream (URL stored on the server) and if this server
is unavailable it will use the fall back sound.

First option
Couldn't it just switch to MSB automatically? is there any way to
configure this? like "if SBS is unavailable for >5 min the switch"
perhaps it's more complicated than this (usually is :-) )

Second option
If the software was enhanced a bit the radio could store the URL for
the internet stream localy (as it does with the alarm time) and use
this information in case the server is unavailable. I guess this would
benefit SBS users as well as MSB users in case MSB is down.

[SlimDevices: Radio] Alarm: shouldn't this scenario work?

2010-05-12 Thread Letten

If I leave my SBS PC running 24/7 my Alarm starts playing my selected
internet radio station (favourite) in the morning just fine.

But if I shut down the SBS pc in the evening (wake-on-lan is not
supported) the alarm will play fall-back alarm-sound in the morning.

Shouldn't it be possible for the Radio to play the internet radio
station without SBS?

I can understand that local music won't work, but I thought that
selecting internet radio as alarm would make it possible.

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Syncronize issue

I'm not sure sync of internet radio is supported. But playing FLAC
should work.

Try to play some MP3 files in sync, they require less throughput on
your wireless network than FLAC.

If they work then your wireless network might have some problems,
perhaps interferrence or range. Swithing wifi channels might help.

Streaming music (or video) reveals wireless issues that otherwise would
go unnoticed.

I can play WMA Lossless on 4 SB's in perfect sync on my old 802.11g
router, and my server is also wireless (laptop). So don't blame it on SB
hardware.

Wireless can be tricky, try turning the router or radio a few degrees
(or move them a little).

I had problems with my SB classic, it wouldn't connect to my wireless,
moving it 10 cm solved the problem.

Good luck.
