Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Pandora stops playing after a couple songs

2017-03-13 Thread PWB

A couple weeks ago I received a free access point from a sales rep.
Pandora over the Squeezebox Radio works so much better now! I still
can't usually play Pandora for 9 hours straight, but I can almost always
play it for a couple hours without it stopping, where before it might
play one or two songs and then stop. The access point I got is a Meraki
MR32. It retails for about $500, so it's not a solution many people will
use, but it is pretty incredible. I guess the point is that my problem
was poor connectivity, but I agree that I think Pandora changed
something a few months ago that caused streaming using a Squeezebox to
be less reliable.

[SlimDevices: Radio] Change volume to more than 100 and force headphone output

2013-12-24 Thread PWB

I have a Squeezebox Radio that is hardwired to a small digital amp using
the headphone output on the squeezebox. I am trying to accomplish two
goals.

1. I want to change the headphone maximum output to more than 100%. If I
hook my iPhone directly to the amp instead of using the squeezebox I can
get a significantly higher level of sound from my amp and that is what
I'm looking to achieve from the squeezebox.
2. The alarm always outputs sound through the built-in speaker even
though I have speakers hooked up to headphone jack. How can I change the
alarm to output sound to the headphone jack instead?

Before you all warn about doing damage to my amp from increasing the
gain sent to it, I don't care. I don't care if changing the gain to 120%
can burn up the amp. It's cheap, but at the same time I don't want to
buy a bigger amp. I would just like to know the answers to my two
questions.

Thanks and Merry Christmas

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Squeezebox Radio + External amp?

2010-10-28 Thread PWB

I have a squeezebox radio that I use to run my whole house sound
system. I use the headphone jack output, and then an adapter to convert
stereo to mono (because I only have a single speaker in each room) and
then that signal gets split. One side of the split is plugged into a
small digital amp that powers a speaker in my bedroom and one in my
bathroom, and then the other side of the split cable goes into a
wireless transmitter (that and the prementioned amp are inside my
nightstand) that sends the sound to a wireless receiver/amp in my
kitchen pantry that powers a speaker in my kitchen and one in the room
with my pool table. All of this is controller using the iPhone app
iPeng. It is such a great setup. I just did it all about a month ago
and couldn't be more pleased. See attached pictures. If you have any
questions on exactly what products I used or about the installation
feel free to ask. The sound quality is actually very nice, and it was
pretty cheap. The speakers were $70/pair, the amp powering 2 of them
was $50, and the wireless transmitter and wireless receiver/amp were
about $150 for the set.

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] setting headphone jack to mono?

2010-10-28 Thread PWB

Thanks bluegaspode. I have SSH'ed into the radio and looked a bit at the
'amixer' command and I think you're probably correct that it could
possibly do what I want, but I am by no means a Linux guy and don't
know what setting to change and what the syntax should be.

Can anyone help me with the correct 'amixer' command to change the
headphone output to mono?

Thanks

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] setting headphone jack to mono?

2010-10-28 Thread PWB

That's what I have in place now, and it does work, but I'd rather not
use extra adapters if the radio can just output mono on its own. I know
its not a big deal though. The other half of my reason for asking is I
like tinkering with things and knowing how they work.

[SlimDevices: Radio] setting headphone jack to mono?

2010-10-23 Thread PWB

I recently bought a SB Radio and am in the process of making it the
controller of a whole house sound system. I am coming out of the
headphone jack and using external amps to power in-wall speakers in
several rooms with volume controlled by the Radio (not the amps) using
the iPeng iPhone app, but each room only has one speaker in it and so I
was wondering if I can edit the configuration of the Radio to output a
mono signal out of the headphone jack. I know I can use an adapter to
convert it (that's what I'm doing now), but it'd be nice if I could use
as few adapters and connectors as possible and just do it in the SB
Radio itself. I don't mind SSHing into the radio and making changes if
someone can point me in the right direction.
