Looks like may not happen for 7.7. Target milestone just got changed
from 7.7.0 to 7.7.x. Bummer; the fix is there and ready to go!

I had a gander over at the support site. People *are* mentioning
issues with the software, and the tone is similar to that here. Posts
with titles such as

Squeezebox Radio - Disastrous software for months ...

and

Squeezebox 7.5.1 Update--Same Old Problems

would certainly give them a clue that there might be a problem. And,
given these posts (and the moderator over there stating "Please be
assured that your voice is being heard") would lead any decent product
manager to have a gander over *here*, where he/she should *know* (or
would certainly find out in short order) that there is a fairly active
community largely dissatisfied with the Radio software design.

It's time for Logitech to either properly fund/staff this product line
or sell it back to a specialty audio manufacturer. The Radio could
have infinitely more potential, and the developers could focus on
things like music and programming features, if the fundamental
client/server design were sound and silly things like an alarm clock
simply "just worked".

Along these same lines, I'm finding it difficult to revert to hardwired
use after previously setting up the Radio for wireless, particularly if
the wireless access point is still available and accepting connections.
Is there a simple way to edit this file to have it use the eth0
interface by default instead of eth1 which wireless uses?

Thanks, -mark

When you duct-tape the battery pack together, does the whole pack fit
into the radio itself, or does it just hang outside the unit?

I just noticed this on my Radio running off SBS 7.4.2. How bad can
this problem be with current hardware? Drifts of minutes per *day*?
The crystal/whatever does the local timekeeping should be able to keep
time within minutes per week *easily*; if there's a once/day sync with
SBS this drift should be less than 10s for sure.

[SlimDevices: Radio] Firmware update hangs

2010-01-30 Thread mbonsack

Over the last few weeks there's been quite a few firmware upgrades with
7.4.2, which the Radio will indicate when powered on from a standby
state. If I elect to update the firmware, it takes an extremely long
time (30 min or so) to download, then gets stuck at 99% and hangs there
forever. A full reboot by pulling the power is necessary; a long hold
of the power button is not sufficient to clear this hang. After this
forced reboot and subsequent power on, the same prompt for new firmware
is presented and this time it proceeds normally (~1 min to download with
automatic reboot).

Has anyone seen this?

[SlimDevices: Radio] Connection problems to Squeezebox Server

2010-01-29 Thread mbonsack

Every so often my radio gets into a state where the little blue wifi
connectivity icon in the lower-right corner turns blue indicating that
the Radio cannot connect to SBS. The weather screensaver applet itself
works fine so I know overall connectivity is OK. The only way I can
reconnect to SBS, despite multiple retries via the radio front panel, is
to hard reset the device. Then it comes up OK every time.

Anyone else seen this? I'm running the latest 7.4.2 but it seems to be
independent of any particular SBS release.

In my case, I'd like a preset to take me to the top of my Pandora radio

This seems like the best assessment of this issue so far. I'd amend,
per my note above, the actions for "snooze" and "alarm off" to:
* Snooze: Turn *or* press the big navigation wheel
* Alarm off: Turn *or* press the mute button (= turn/press volume
wheel), unless you really want to change the volume when you've just
woken up -- in which case your original suggestion for "Alarm off" would
work.

This will *not* work. A flailing arm after being woken up has an equal
chance of turning this knob in either direction. A misplaced right turn
when the user intended a snooze could be a real bummer. The only way to
use the big knob in the middle with a flying arm is to limit it's use to
*one* function -- pick one, but only one. That goes for left/right
turns or pushing it in.

[SlimDevices: Radio] Preset to specific location in menu tree

2010-01-04 Thread mbonsack

Is there any way to set a Radio preset to a specific location in the
menu tree rather than a playlist/song/station? I'd like a preset for,
say, all of my Pandora stations -- but not necessarily a specific one.
That way I could tap one of the presets with the radio off and be
presented with my list of Pandora stations from which to choose without
having to go through the tree. Similarly, I could set others up for
specific genres from my own library, etc.

That may be, but Internet Radio > Local seems to not use my radiotime
account at all -- it just uses the GeoIP info as before. I have to go
to MyApps->Radiotime->Local for the correct list, even when connected to
SBS. I have, however, entered the proper MySB credentials into SBS so
maybe your bug is triggered after all.

Thanks again for your help.

I did this, and the local entries do not change. I have to navigate to
"My Apps --> Radiotime --> Local Radio" to get the configuration I set
up on Radiotime. The SBS/MySB "local" entry off the Internet Radio menu
tree still behaves just as if you visit the Radiotime site as an
unregistered user -- in my case the Radiotime unregistered local list
maps to Vista, CA -- and it has no FM stations. No big deal; just a
different menu tree.

It's clear that SBS/MySB menu picks are a direct link to those at
radiotime; the search I mentioned above (for San Diego stations) is also
available directly on the site.

Thanks for your help!

I'm using the Radio and SB3, and the locals show AM only on both the
players while connected to SBS or MySB.

I'm in Carlsbad, CA and local internet radio returns my location as
Vista, CA which is close enough. All of the AM stations listed are
indeed local, with quite a few LA stations thrown in.

Could it be that the algorithm used to determine what is local FM
thinks that Vista is too far from San Diego to include those stations in
the list? I'd even like to see some LA FM stations too just like it
shows for the AM stations.

I know with older versions of Squeezebox server/slimserver that local
