[SlimDevices: Radio] All 4 SB Radios dropped offline!

2012-11-16 Thread pallfreeman

A mildly interesting curiosity, now resolved.

Last night between 11PM and midnight all four of my SB Radios dropped
offline (I ping them every hour). Each was displaying the red wifi icon,
and after a power-cycle reluctantly reconnected. They'd all disconnected
again by 1AM, and the bedroom Radio woke us with the funky bass tune
for the first time in many months.

The odd thing about this is that it's JUST the Radios which were
affected. This includes one which sits about 1M away from the wifi AP,
so usually gets 100% signal. The Touch (usually about 60%) and SB
Classic (30%) were fine, as were the iThings and my laptop.

Each was power-cycled again this morning and have behaved normally until
early evening.

Bah.

Like I said, Touch, SB3, iThings and laptop unaffected, whereas the SB
Radios were totally KO'd.

I wouldn't bother, Sherlock. Just posting 'cos it's more of a
contribution than merely shrugging. :)

Interesting choice of words, adapted. Logitech are using Amazon's EC2
virtual hosting for this service. I thought one major selling point of
this was that it's very easy, simple and quick to add extra capacity.
End of the week? Setting easy targets or wot?

Still I suppose it means the service is getting more popular...

This no longer works. Several buttons seem to have an effect when the
alarm popup is being displayed, but none of them seem to quite do what
I want.

Pressing the Pause button twice comes closest, but, illogically,
restarts the currently playing song.

The usual reason that I want this is so that I can Love the track on
last.fm. I use that as a kind of notepad to temporarily mark tracks
that I want to put into a playlist at some later time. Restarting the
song means it gets scrobbled twice.

Is it worth filing a bug?

I have a similar problem with a Touch. If it's ever restarted (e.g.
after installing an update) there a 50% chance it'll white screen on

24 hours, it comes back perfectly fine. You might give that a go.

They told me to send it back to Logitech, but I bought another instead

[SlimDevices: Radio] alarm without popup?

2011-01-18 Thread pallfreeman

I recently replaced an Clarus Plus with a Squeezebox Radio, to start
playing a random selection of music at about 8AM in the spare room,
which just happens to be where I get dressed in the morning. The Clarus
streams from SBS just fine, but has a poor display. I got fed up of
coming downstairs, wondering what's that that's playing and needing
to go to a computer to find out.

So, this morning I'm in that situation. I go to my shiny new SB Radio,
only to find that the Now Playing display is obscured by a popup
asking me to either Snooze or End Alarm. If I had been woken up by
this, there's no way I'd be able to manipulate the scroll wheel/button:
if I were coding a special mode for the alarm it would have to be
something like press any button and the radio plays louder. :)

What I really want is to just have the radio switch on at a
predetermined time. I don't need any snoozes, or fade-ins, I just want
it playing already when I stagger downstairs, and I want to be able to
see what it's playing.

How do I accomplish this? Surely not cron and CLI?
