I queried the cause of the full-volume repeating sound in November.
20 seconds of it is ATTACHED to drive you mad: just let it happen
beside
you, asleep!

Is this the 'backup alarm' that 0xdeadbeef writes about?

How can one stop it or replace it with something calmer?

It seems to come on at full volume (not just to me)
- for 10-60 seconds before alarm (BBC Radio 4) fades in via SMS
- non-stop from onset of alarm some days when set for France Inter via
MSB
- suddenly, within 60 min alarm period, coinciding with a router
failure
(is the radio or router the culprit?)

This mix suggests that the radio firmware kicks this in whenever there
is a problem during the alarm period (but not at other times)

Logitech support have not met this behaviour, it seems
If I have to live with it, how can I change the awful sound?

Any help much appreciated

Peter

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Battery is shipping!

Ordered from the UK in the evening by order acknowledged at 04.54 on
02/25/10 in some distant part of the Internet.
Arrived 11/00 today, 2 March.
So Thursday to Tuesday, shipped from Luxembourg.

Clear heavy plastic packaging with a neat opening: not the usual
struggle with a Stanley knife.

Comments.
It's a squeeze to fit in (what do you expect given the brand?), indeed
impossible until I realised that two copies of the sticky label had been
attached on top of each other.
And the battery cable needs a half-turn twist...

I have a similar problem, but it predates the upgrade.
Each morning the radio is set to come on at the same time.
In the past I was normally swamped by very loud repetitive music, but
if lucky, BBC Radio came through. And then, increasingly frequently, it
would cut out after 3-10 minutes. By then my PC's (wired) ADSL
connection was dead. External connectivity could only be restored by
resetting the router.

Today, post-upgrade, a minor difference. The BBC came on OK straight
away, and then got pushed out by the loud repetitive music after 3
minutes! No Internet, but LAN still functioning. So I reset router and
went back to bed.

Could this be caused by the Squeezebox? I've been blaming my ISP!

(Belkin N wireless/modem/router, 2 months old. Windows 7)

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Good Christmas gift for Mom?

2009-12-14 Thread peter . s

Kphinney asks "I was asking if others experienced the problem. You made
your case well known, but no one else seems to be making a fuss.
Please, anyone else have Onlybeef's issue of dropping and having to
reset "daily" as he does?"

I live in the UK. And my alarm will not bring up a radio station
(though it'll pick up My Music). If I set an alarm during the day, that
will work. It just gets up to mischief once I am asleep, and that makes
the cause difficult to diagnose. Just now its Diagnostics say DNS not
found and cannot ping - but it was working before I went to sleep.

Infuriating. Yet another reset to do...

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Internet Radio: stations & categories

2009-12-07 Thread peter . s

Thanks, Toby
But my question was meant to be more general: how does Squeezebox
manage / update / maintain the directory of radio stations? I assume it
is fed at present from one central server with 'manual' input.

I think the radio is a fascinating implementation of networking
techniques for a very consumer-oriented product - but its success
depends on delivering up-to-date information content consistently.

Cheers, Peter

[SlimDevices: Radio] Internet Radio: stations & categories

2009-12-07 Thread peter . s

How do these get extended and improved?
They are incomplete - e.g. only 3 stations are listed in National
Networks for the UK. And poorly organised - e.g. lists are not sorted
alphabetically. Even the names of stations/channels don't match their
'real' names.
Almost all the talk on this forum is from technical enthusiasts, but
you must get this right to become a consumer product...
