I wouldn't hesitate to recommend v7.4.2. It has had a LOT of bug fixes
vs. v7.4.1, including a lot of improvement on the Radio alarm
reliability. I believe there is something being worked for the Radio
battery, and that is what's keeping this version from becoming the
"official" release version.

Had this problem with an alarm due. Of course, no alarm, not even the
backup one, sounded. This is starting to get REALLY annoying.

Here's some log messages, for anyone who might know what it all means.
The alarm was programmed for 7.15am. 7.56 was when I got woken up by

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Appears to be playing, but no sound?

2010-02-20 Thread mpower9

I have been wondering if this no-sound issue is somehow related to the
strange behavior of the mute button that suddenly unmutes. See:

Has anyone investigated a possible relationship of these two bugs?

Bugs have been filed relating to the unmute issue:

I think it has been something like 4 weeks.

For me the problem occured (in 7.4.1) when I was using the presets
frequently. The truth is that since the upgrade I've been listening
mostly to 1-2 radio stations...

I hesitate to install this beta, as the released version is supposed to

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Appears to be playing, but no sound?

2010-02-14 Thread Aslak3

My SBR did this again last night. No sound at all, not even in the UI.
Oddly enough, I went to sleep and it was fine. Woke up and it was in
no-sound-mode (luckily it was Saturday so no alarm was programmed; dunno
what would have happened if I had an alarm due, but probably I'd have
missed the bus!) Reboot via the power button seems to be the only
solution. Next time it happens I'll ssh in and check the log files.

Running the standard 7.4.1 system. I guess it's happened about 3 times
now, so maybe this problem occurs once every 3-4 weeks? Not good :(

I have also been suffering almost daily from such problems on my SBR.
Usually I log in to mysqueezebox.com and run the Remote Control by
which I can turn on then SBR and select a Favourite. Not very handy,
because then I just as well listen to the same favourites directly
on on a PC eg. with wINAMP.

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Appears to be playing, but no sound?

2010-02-13 Thread tjp888

I am experiencing the loss of sound also. All sound including the user
interface beeps stop. I connected speakers to the headphone jack and
still had no sound. For me it happens right in mid-stream. One minute
the radio is happily playing either local or internet media and bingo -
the sound just goes away. Rebooting always seems to fix it.
Though rebooting will be much more of a hassle once I get the battery
installed (when ever that is released, March 31??). I assume I'll have
to turn the radio over and remove the battery to do a reboot.

I'm hoping that 7.4.2 fixes this...

Mine was doing it on a daily basis, even multiple times per day (see

I've been using the new one for 2 months (same software version) and I
have not seen the problem even once. With so many complaining of the
same problem, this leads me to believe that there is some kind of batch
hardware problem of one of the components, or maybe a batch build
problem.

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Appears to be playing, but no sound?

2010-01-22 Thread reinholdk

I'm able to reproduce this situation easily. It's similar to what is
described in post #13 already:

While my radio is connected to mySBS.com and is playing a radio station
happily, I'm turning my PC on and when the local SBS is up and running I
switch to it and select an artist/album/song to play.
The dot in the title bar is moving now, but there's no sound.
Pausing/resuming or stopping and restarting the song or even selecting a
different album and song doesn't help. Fortunately I don't have to
reboot but simply switch the radio to standby mode and turn it on again
to be able to listen to my music.

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Appears to be playing, but no sound?

2010-01-19 Thread mpower9

First I do not use SBServer so for me switching between local server and
remote is not an issue. However, it frequently happens that when I
switch from the local public radio station to C-Span Radio the screen
will indicate that it is getting the station information, the program
logo will appear and it will appear to be playing, but no sound comes
out. If I switch to another radio station, it will play normally. If I
switch to the audio stream from one of the C-Span television stations,
they will play normally. If I switch back to C-Span Radio, the logo will
appear and it will appear to be playing, but still no sound.

This phenomena is intermittent. Sometimes C-Span Radio plays just fine.

Still happening in 1/2010 with latest firmware update. Radio
appears to be operating normally--you can switch channels, the
screen updates, even remote control from the web site works. But
no audio coming out the speaker. Power button to standby and
on doesn't fix the problem. Removing power and rebooting does.

If I press play when it is stopped sometimes it will resume and

As a new user I have had this problem several times so this thread gives
some comfort to know I'm not the only one.

As others have said seems to occur when switching to My Music using a
local Squeezebox Server then hitting one of my Presets (which I
understand are stored at MySqueezebox.com).

So far it seems randomsometimes a preset will play, sometimes not.
Many times switching back to a local album shows it graphically playing,
but without sound.

Very annoying as one cannot count on the commands being executed.
Connection is White by the way which indicates I am connected to both
sources.

Exactly the same thing here. No UI noises or anything. However I did
notice that the speaker was still "on" and generate it's slight bit of
static, which it does when it has nothing to play.

As a new SB radio user this has happened to me a few times, but it's
worth noting that, for me, it's not just the station stream audio that
goes out, it's ALL sound, even the user interface beeps when you turn
the dial are gone. Like the speaker just stopped working. Rebooting
always fixes it.

I just got a Squeezebox Radio, i have the problem with no sound after
switching between different squeezebox servers. Also my preprogrammed
buttons (the 6 at the top) are missing after this happens.

Anything I can do?

I am having the same problem. The radio shows it is playing but no
matter what I do, I get no volume. Turned on and off, updated firmware,
tried different sources, etc. But to no avail. This is not the first
problem I've had with the squeezebox radio and I've only had it a few
weeks. Needless to say, I'm regretting my decision to buy one and if
the volume problem doesn't resolve itself tonight, it is going back.
Incredible to me that the SB Radio would be released with so many
problems.

Okay, I think I am right now in the no sound mode... Neat.

I can force a new track with >> or the web page, but still nada.

It has dropped and reconnected to my library twice now (was about to
type once, but just watched it do it again...)

No clue how to reproduce it.. I did what I do every morning: turn on
radio, choose a random playlist, and play.

No idea if other players are confused... I'm at work... but I don't
think they are. They were fine when I left the house 30 minutes ago.

Last night, AT&T apparently was having intermittent DSL problems.

"Tue, 15 Dec 2009 19:00:06 -- Confirmed ATT outage in the San Francisco

ATT has confirmed that there is a DSL outage in San Francisco. This
is
not a complete outage, but rather intermittent performance
problems.
Thank you for your patience while they work to resolve the issue."

The Radio was set to play KCRW Music and a local server. Many times,
the stream would appear to either:
* Rebuffer and not play at all (square icon showing)
* Rebuffer and not produce any sound (triangle icon showing)

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Appears to be playing, but no sound?

I am used to switch off my computer every evening (and so SBS).

In the morning, I am using mysqueezebox.com in order to hear some
internet radio on my Radio. It connects and works fine.
As soon as my computer is switched on and I want to hear some of my own
music on the Radio, I am connecting to sbs and choose a song. My Radio
appears to be playing, but no sound comes out. I reboot it and it plays
just fine. I even don't have to press play again.

Note that I don't have this problem with my Boom.

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Appears to be playing, but no sound?

2009-12-11 Thread toby10

Today:
Radio & Boom, both on MySB, playing same stream (not Synced), MP3 128k
internet radio station:
Boom: Kept playing stream, no problems
Radio: Stopped playing stream, no error or stopped message, icon did
display Stopped

Earlier today (unrelated to above) Radio rebooted itself while playing
and could not reconnect to MySB (blue icon), tried "Try Again" several
times but failed to connect first few attempts, but did eventually
reconnect. Boom did also disconnect from MySB at this time (best I can
tell) but Boom's screen simply showed "Stopped" for the station stream,
pressing Play re-started stream and required no interaction from me to
reconnect to MySB.

I presume the US-VA MySB server was taken down or rebooted?

Radio not able to connect to MySB and Boom showing a stopped stream may
not be related, I dunno. But it was very coincidental that both
happened at about the same time (guessing as Boom and Radio are in
different parts of the house).

To be clear, the loss of connectivity is not the wireless connection,
but the connection to the Internet in general, such as the DSL line
glitching or a router being rebooted.

Happens on a wired connection, also. That's one of the tests that tech

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Appears to be playing, but no sound?

2009-12-08 Thread mlsstl

I'll add one more voice to the Radio losing the radio stream for no
particular reason and then not automatically reconnecting.

It is rather annoying to have to turn the unit off and back on just to
get the station back.

I've got good wireless signal in the house so I don't think that's it.

I can understand hiccups in the internet stream but I'd think that'd be
an anticipated event. Seems to me the Radio should just pick up where it
left off when the stream becomes available again but that apparently
isn't the case.

I love the access to stations worldwide, but most of the time I just
want to turn on the radio and listen without having to fuss with the
seeming unpredictability.

Also having this issue when playing streams while connected to both

Regarding how to reproduce it, I was able to get it to happen within,
on average, about 5 minutes, by changing stations. It seem to happen
much quicker after a reboot, sometimes the second or third station I
would select. On casual listening, it would occur about once a day. It
would even happen when I selected an mp3 from my streambox server.

The problem would occur while trying to start the stream. All sound
would stop, even menu sounds, and would only be restored by a reboot.

I started a thread on this earlier, but got little feedback, with only
one other confirmed case. My radio was doing this on a daily basis, so
I assumed that it was not a common/software problem (based on the lack
of responses) and returned it.

I purchased another one, but only received it a couple of days ago. I
haven't seen the problem, yet, but I really haven't used it much at this
point.

Yes, occasionally on station playback, never experienced it on local
music playback.
I presumed it was just a station URL drop or other such
internet/MySB/station issue.
