[RBW] Re: Road Std up for sale on the bay
Ambrosio is easy to misspell as the dessert name; he's just quoting standard Rivspeak for the tire clearance, and makes it clear that's what he's doing; extended top tube for Rivendell means he's thinks the toptube is kinda long for a 61cm Rivendell. [RBW] 58 cm Quickbeam still available
My 58cm Quickbeam is still up for sale. The price has been reduced to $1290, and now includes packing and shipping to anywhere in the USA lower 48. If you pick the bike up from my house (SF Bay Area), the price will be $1250. Hard to believe that this almost like-new bike hasn't sold yet. I wouldn't be selling it if medical conditions didn't mandate. This bike was re-painted bright yellow--for esthetics, not because of crash damage--in 2009. New wheels with Phil hubs and Mavic rims were professionally-built by Peter J White. The cantilever bosses were removed before the repaint, and Tektro side-pull brakes installed. It's done only a few miles since the re-paint. Email me for complete specs and pictures. Call at 650-572-8831 (evenings) if you'd like to discuss the sale. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups RBW Owners Bunch group. Reporting back: I found an old but lightly used Shimano XCE braze-on front der. on eBay. I swapped it for the IRD Alpina-d and, sure enough, the action of my Silver shifter is a bit easier on my thumb. Perhaps the lever arm provides more leverage or the spring is a bit lighter. Either way, I'm sticking with the XCE. I imagine that if indexing, specifically with brifters or rapid fire, the difference would be less noticeable if at all. If I can find a few more XCE's or similar to stock pile, I'll probably unload my IRD's here! Ginz -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups RBW Owners Bunch group. [RBW] Selling My Rivendell Custom
Dear Forum Friends, The time has come to sell my Rivendell custom. I thought I would start here, before branching out to a wider audience (read: eBay). I haven't ridden it much in the 10 years I've had it. I'm not a racer, and prefer to get around on my Saluki commuter and my Atlantis. I am the original owner. The bike is fast, light, and handles great. The frame was built by the legendary Joe Starck, and painted by the equally legendary Joe Bell in 2001. The frame size is 63.5cm, center-to-top, with a stand-over of 87cm. The top tube is 58cm, measured center-to-center. The chainstays are 44.5cm. There are some pictures, and additional specs, here on Flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/63176651@N08/ The bike is clean, well-cared for, and barely ridden. It has spent the last several years living in my office at Rivendell. I've never used an odometer, so I can't tell you just how many miles it *doesn't* have on it, but it isn't many. Email me with any questions, or if you need more photos. Asking price is $4,000. It's a horribly executed build on a very very good bike. Do a quick mental inventory of the parts that must be replaced when you see it. If you feel like you'll need to replace lots of stuff, then lower your offer. Plan on doing the equivalent of a rebuild at least. The number I'd keep in mind is that the Ramb frameset seems to go for about $750 these days. If you decide the wheelset and drivetrain are usable, then for sure $1000 makes sense. If everything is usable, then $1200 isn't outrageous. Of the pictures, the one that concerns me the most is the front wheel sitting WAY offcenter in the fork. Make sure you know how to verify that the fork is not bent. I'm sure others on the list are better than me at this, but when doing a tool-free inspection, my approach would be 1. make sure the front wheel is seated in the tips properly. 2. If its way off center like the picture, spin the wheel 3. if the wheel is reasonably true, take it off and reverse it 4. if the fork is straight, then the wheel is out of dish, and reversing it will make it offcenter the same amount to the OPPOSITE side. If the fork is bent and the wheel is dished correctly, then the wheel will be just as badly offcenter to the same side. If both are bad, then its harder to separate how bad without tools. Hopefully it's just that the seller hasn't put the front wheel in all the way, and there's no problem. [RBW] Camping and riding in the Sierras?
Not a bike tour, but places to ride and camp along a Sierras route from Salem, OR to Anaheim, CA. My boss and I are driving from Portland to a trade show in Anaheim next month. We're taking two days each way, and going through the Sierras, not I-5. We'll camp one night or two, and are considering bringing our bikes. If you have suggestions for great mixed terrain rides around Susanville (the halfway point), or along 395 or 95, I'd love to hear them. I'm really excited about this - dragging the Google Maps route off I-5 added a couple hours driving each day (less than I expected), and turned a grueling chore into something potentially great. [RBW] FS: Oddball very cheap lugged steel bike for one of you super tall folks
My kids go to Harding Elementary School in El Cerrito. I'm a member of the Dad's Club, an offshoot of the PTA that is more about getting stuff done than it is about having meetings. This weekend is our first annual bike sale. We took donation bikes from the community, fixed up the bikes and are now selling them back to the community. I wanted to broadcast to the group three items: 1. If you have a bike you want to get rid of, don't want to sell it, and live in the bay area, let me know, and I'll take your donation and give you a tax deduction receipt 2. If you need a cheap 16 wheel bike for a kid in your life, let me know. We got a lot of those. 3. If you are SUPER tall and want a beater, we got a 27 frame Fuji Valite that might be hard to sell this weekend. Seriously, its a 69cm frame size, 27 inches. The derailers were both toast, so I set it up with straight bars and a Quickbeam like double. There are two gears that work with the horizontal dropouts: a small ring--big cog climbing gear and a big ring--small cog cruising gear. We'll probably hang a $80 price tag on it. Let me know if you want a super tall beater. It is totally ready to set up as a geared bike again. If it was my size I'd use it to build a retro-direct like in the Riv video. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups RBW Owners Bunch group. It looks worth a visit to me. It looks as if the owner wanted to make his rear aero lever into a non-aero lever, so presumably you'd have to re-string the rear cable and re-tape that side of the bar (actually, re-tape the whole thing; black don't cut it for that color); alter the hook angle and lower the damn' bar. [RBW] Re: Camping and riding in the Sierras?
Not sure which Bishop David is thinking of but it rarely gets snow and actually right now it's fairly warm 80+. There is some nice riding west of town off hiway 168 toward Bishop Lakes if it's not too hot. High Desert terrain until you climb higher. Not really the Sierras either. It is the Owens Valley, a down dropped fault block between the Sierra's and White/Inyo's. The area around Mammoth Lake is nice, but the silty ash soil makes dirt road riding tougher on fat road tires. I love the climb to Lake Mary up 203. You can loop around the lake and then take Old Mammoth road back to town. Should be free of snow in June. Old 395 between Crowley and Rock Creek rd is nice and so is Rock Creek rd. The ride over to Red's Meadows is fun too from the town of Mammoth lakes. and of course Lake Tahoe has some nice rides too. Out of your way perhaps. ~Mike On May 20, 4:53 pm, cyclotourist cyclotour...@gmail.com wrote: If you're bring bikes and can work it into the schedule, DEFINITELY plan on breaking loose for a ride on the Orange Co. coast or maybe up to Santiago Pk! [RBW] WTB: Nigel Smythe Bar Tube / Candy Bar
Hi, all! I'm seeking a Nigel Smythe largely-cylindrical handlebar bag, in at least good condition. I don't know what the official name of that model is. The ideal candidate is canvas, though I'm interested also in the tweed. Please contact me off-list if you have one on which you're willing to entertain offers of cash (paypal) or trade. Re: [RBW] Re: Camping and riding in the Sierras?
168 is exactly what I was referring to... wonderful Xcountry skiing in the winter. The road is totally closed in the winter, so you can take it all the way up to Lake Sabrina. A lot of good cheap fun! I'm sure we can even come up with a loaner or two if pressed! Bishop is a pretty cool area to check out. Lots of riding in the foothills up there, although I don't know specifics (it's usually covered with snow and I do CC up there).
